XBOX 360 HD AV Cable and 19 inch LCD Widescreen Monitor?

Q. I was planning on buying a 360 and a VGA HD AV cable to hook up to my monitor. It is an HP w19b, it is widescreen and it runs at 1440x990 max res. I have a couple of questions.

1) When I play games, will my monitor give me black bars at the top or bottom?

2) If it does, how can i fix it so that it would fill the whole screen?

3) What is the max resolution that Halo 3 has?

4) Will my monitor stretch out the games when I play them?

5) Will the picture look different (in how it is stretched/unstretched) from a 40 INCH LCD FLAT PANEL WIDESCREEN 1080P HD TV?

A. 1). Yes, but only because your monitor is 16:10 and not a true native 16:9. Just select 16:9 aspect ratio and the bars won't be visbile or very unnoticable (depends on monitor). I don't know if the game will automatically play at 720p, you might need to enable it in the dashboard.

2). All games support 16:9 480i, use that setting. It should play in 720p which is

3). Halo 3 supports 480i/480p and 720p (not 1080i)

4). Most games support 16:9 480i/480p or greater and the game resolution will be rendered in 16:9, your monitor might stretch it to 16:10 or just have very small black bars.

5). On a 19" monitor, 720p is very high resolution and the Xbox should not strech the aspect ratio of the image too much. It should look great because LCD monitors have much high pixel densities than LCD TVs. The Monitor might look slightly dim deending on the environment

19 inch vs 20 inch lcd monitor?
Q. there's a 19 inch monitor for 133.33 and a 20 inch for 148.99...i'm planning on getting the 2o inch, but do you think the 15 dollar difference is worth choosing 20 from 19 inch OR should i save that money and pick 19 inch?

A. Depends on your value system. How much is an inch worth?

Monitors are like speakers on a stereo. You can have the best system and a cheap monitor and it looks like a cheap system.

Go for the 20", but for a little more you can get a 23" or 24" monitor. That would be better. Make sure you get a 1920 x 1080 resolution that is DHCP capable and if you plan on HD content get one with an HDMI port.

Q. thanks for the help everyone! im still having trouble! i have a vga going out to my pc and a dvi going out into a hdmi. i used a monstor dvi to hdmi converter to use the monster dvi cable. i can switch between vga and dvi with a button on the lcd monitor. the vga comes up fine. when i turn on the dvd player and switch to dvi mode it comes up fine as well with he samsung "on" screen. BUT when i put a dvd in the samsung hd850 the scepter 19 inch x9w the screen goes lite blue then black then lite blue then black. when i take the dvd out te samsung menu comes up perfect. i tried changing the dvd players specs fom 480 to 720 to 768. the lcds to res is only 1400x900. i changed from the dvd players rgb-normal to rgb-expand and from dvi A to dvi B. this is all in samsungs menu. I am pulling my hair out. the sceptre lcd displays the dvd player when it turns on but not the movie when i load it in the player!!!! What am i doing wrong? i feel like i ate a bowl of clown this morning guys! thanks!

A. I would see if you have a progressive scan function on the DVD player. Other causes may be if you have the right DVI adaptor. There are several types of DVI-D, DVI-I etc. recearch this on the link I provide below compared to what you physically have.

What does it mean when a side of a computer monitor is yellow?
Q. The monitor is a Vuescape 19 inch LCD Monitor the Contrast Ratio is 600:1 & the Resolution is 1280x1024. The monitor itself is a year or two old. The old thing about this yellow bar on the right side of the screen is that it will just appears and disappears at random. The yellow bar to me looks like a haze (if that also helps in the description of the problem)

A. Tell your kid brother to stop peeing on it.

My monitor flickers from yellow tint to normal and back again?

Q. It's an LCD flat panel monitor, 19 inch, a few years old. Why does it do this? It does it at random, both when it's just started up and when it's been on for a while.

A. Make sure the cord is firmly plugged into the back. If it is, then its going bad. It will continue to do that randomly until one day it wont stop. But the time for that to happen can be a long time (few months if lucky).

The only other reason would be if one of the wires in the cord was bent and kinked and half way broken.

Where can I find a generic driver for my new 19 inch LCD monitor?

Q. My old CRT monitor died, so i trotted down to Best Buy and bought an inexpensive 19 inch LCD monitor. When I got it home, I discovered that the drivers on the disc are only for Windows Vista, and my computer uses XP. I have also checked the company's website, no luck. I wouldn't care much, except I use this system for photo editing. All of the graphics are stretched to fit the wider screen. Any suggestions?

A. you dont need drivers for almost all monitors. the basic ones windows install work fine and there will be no difference

A. Not sure.

How much less energy does an LCD monitor use compared to a CRT?
Q. Just to be comparative, let's say a 19 inch LCD monitor vs. a 19 inch CRT monitor used for the same amount of time. How much less energy does the average LCD use and could that add up to any significant savings over a month's or year's time? I'm just curious, and if it really makes a difference, I'll factor that in to my purchase.

A. Energy Requirements: LCD monitors are extremely economical when it comes to power consumption. Their consumption is in the region of 25 -50 watts compared to CRT which consume like 60-80 watts for a 15 inch model to almost 70 to 150 for 17 and 19 inch models.

how do you fix stuck lines on an LCD computer monitor?

Q. I have a 19 inch LCD monitor that has pink, cyan, and yellow lines going vertically down the monitor. there are so far 6 lines.

A. Time for a new screen...

How long will it be before the lack of a DVI input on my new lcd monitor becomes a problem?
Q. I just bought a 19 inch lcd widescreen monitor from Costco at a really great price. I now realize it has no DVI input and is strictly analog. To decide whether to return it for a refund or to exchange it for something else, I need some idea of how long it will be before the lack of a DVI input becomes a problem. The monitor seems to be just perfect for me right now.

A. It'd be sad when you build/get a gaming computer and want really good video output and you have to use a VGA and is saddened.

That's when, DVI's gonna last for a while.

If you don't plan on getting any crazy game rigs, then keep it.
