Unsupported mode LCD monitor?

Q. When I hooked up an LCD monitor to my Mac Pro, I get and unsupported mode message on the screen. I've been using a different monitor up to this point, but I moved to a different city for school and left the other (much larger and heavier) monitor behind. I've done some extensive research into the problem, and the most likely cause seems to be that I was using a screen resolution with my other monitor that isn't supported by this one.

I need to know how to reset the resolution even though I can't see what I'm doing thanks to the "unsupported mode" message. I could try rebooting the computer in safe mode, but if the screen stays blank, how will I know if it is in safe mode and it didn't work, or if it hasn't finished booting yet?

A. You are likely to have to manually set the screen up from the video settings. This will require being able to get the screen working first. Try safe mode as it will at worst report the same problem. It should only disable the drivers for the screen and you should then be able to see it. Alternatively borrow a monitor which will run, and use that to set basic screen resolution and color. You should then be able to use your current monitor to set it up within sensible range.

Q. I have a Quicksilver G4 mac (using OSX 10.3.9) that has a Nvidia GeForce2 MX graphics card. I recently purchased a Samsung 204B LCD monitor It has both VGA and DVI inputs and offers the ability to rotate the screen from landscape to portrait mode.
I can use the DVI input and the rotate feature on my new macbook (intel 950 graphics card) (using OS X 10.4.3) but not on the older G4. Only the VGA input works.
Is this a graphics card issue? Can it be tweaked? Who should I ask? How can I tell if another card will support the features?

A. Try lowering your screen resolution to 640X480 (256 Color)

That should activate it to default detection mode.
It Usually happens when the Video card is set to a Non-Standard Refresh rate. Or Set to a resolution the LCD can't handle.

How much does it cost to set up a Mac Mini?

Q. I want to know how much it costs to set up a running Mac Mini, including mouse, keyboard, speaker, monitor, etc. Can those be regular equipments that windows use? Like Logitech laser mouse and keyboard, random speaker, and LG LCD monitor?
I looked at the back of a Mac mini it doesn't have a VGA nor a DVI output. how to solve that?

A. You know, all this crap has been on the Apple website. For SIX YEARS.

The idea is that you use ANYTHING YOU WANT. Cost of setup is the price of the Mac Mini itself.

It has DVI. Mini DVI. It comes with a Mini DVI to DVI adapter. You can then get a Mini DisplayPort to DVI or VGA adapter to plug in a second monitor (or outdated monitor, respectively) if you need.

If there's still an issue, you should do some generic troubleshooting steps to rule them out such as running Software Update and applying all patches, run Disk Utility to fix perms and verify your drive, reset PRAM and SMC, etc (see google for specific steps if you need them). The logic being if the system is confused about the number of displays then something is screwed up at a lower level so best to try the standard troubleshooting steps to see if they help or at least rule them out.

What happens if I use a disinfecting wipe on my LCD monitor?

Q. I used a Lysol disinfecting wipe on both my LCD monitors while they were turned on (yeah...I know it was stupid) and now neither monitor will work.

To add to that, my G5 Power Mac, which was connected to the monitors at the time, seems to have frozen and won't respond to anything. I've tried unplugging it for 20 minutes and although when I plug it back up, the power indicator on the front is on, there is no other response.

You may have zapped your Monitors, Graphics Card,Motherboard and/or Power Supply

You will need to test each thing in a good system

Q. I've never used a mac before, and I'm nowhere near a store so before I spend 3k on the new Mac Pro, I just want to make sure I can run dual monitors!

I have two Dell LCD monitors, both have a DVI port.
