What would cause white horizontal bands on JVC GR-D33U digital camera LCD monitor?
Q. Our JVC GR-D33U Camcorder is almost two years old, and all of a sudden the LCD monitor has begun acting up (see link below for reference photos).

We get horizontal, white bands on a darkened (black) monitor. Occasionally we'll get a clear picture, but only for about 5 minutes before the white bands return. Other times the monitor will look like a distorted black and white picture wherein no object can clearly be seen, but the shape of what's on the screen will shift (reminds me of a less grainy ultrasound picture).

When the camcorder is initially powered on, sometimes the monitor will
read "LENS CAP", indicating that the lens cap needs to be removed, even
though it already has been. View monitor: http://www.users.qwest.net/~rnapoli/jvcGR-D33U.html

A. Factory trained camera tech here. I own one of these cameras and they are actually quite good for their price.

However, several recent models of JVC camcorders had an inherent defect from the factory, including the GR-D33US. The defect caused a high failure rate of the (Sony-made) CCD image sensors in these cams. The symptoms on your webpage are typical of the failure. JVC has posted a notice on their website stating that they will cover this defect under an special warranty if the camera is sent directly to them. See the listed link below.

Also, the triangles you mention are the low-contrast indicators which show up if the camera cannot auto-focus. See page 31 of your owner's manual (available on the JVC website). With the CCD defect, of course, it cannot focus properly.

Good luck!

How can I connect a digital camera straight to an LCD monitor?

Q. I would like to connect my camera direct to an LCD monitor so that clients in the studio can view the images as I shoot. The monitor I have spare does not have a composite video input, just VGA. Is there some convertor out there that will convert composite video from the camera into VGA that can be displayed on the monitor?

A. Such converter does exist, but it costs more than a small TV. $150 or so I think. You can just buy a small TV and probably save a bit of money, unless you are REALLY REALLY cramped in space.

When taking a picture of a pure white paper it shows up bluish on my cameras LCD monitor ?
Q. Using a Canon Rebel XS. I can't figure out why the LCD monitor picture is darker than what it looks like through the viewfinder eyepiece. I am taking pictures of small objects and would like to have every picture have a bright pure white background.

A. Two possible options
1. You are shooting with the wrong whitebalance
2. your monitor is in dire need of calibration

The first can be fixed with a quick look at your manual, for the second this will be a good solution: http://amzn.com/B0037255LC

How do I turn on the camera of my lcd monitor?
Q. I recently bought Viewsonic LCD monitor(VX2255wm)w/built in camera..i already installed the installation software for the LCD and the webcam but whenever I click the icon for webcam..it prompts ERROR "Pls. turn on the camera". What should i do about this? pls. help!!

btw..i already read and understood the manual but i says nothing about my problem...

A. I notice the driver was recently modified..I wonder if you should download from here.

http://viewsonic.com/support/drivers/driver_information.cfm?category=1&formName=monitor&key=287

The only other thing I can think of is ...your computer may have the early version usb port and not the Hi-Speed USB 2.0
If it is your usb..your can upgrade your older computer with one.

Good Luck

How long will two Ultimate Lithium Batteries power a digital camera?

Q. approximately how long ( continuously without turning it off ) will two ultimate lithium batteries power a digital camera? Also, is there any ways to optimize the battery life such as turning off the LCD monitor and still taking the photographs?

A. Depends on the camera. Turning the LCD screen off helps a lot. Figure on a few hours if you leave the camera on.

How can I connect a D90 to a monitor and take a picture at the same time?
Q. I went over the mall over the holidays and I ran into the Santa Claus Exhibit where the kids take pictures. I notice that the camera is connected to a LCD monitor what kind of program do they use for this to see what you are taking out of the camera without looking into the viewfinder..

A. There are a few different programs that can do that for you. One of course is Nikon's Camera Control Pro2

http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Imaging-Software/25366/Camera-Control-Pro-2.html

Most of the time this "tethering" is done to send the images shot by the photographer to the computer directly so the computer operator can make prints immediately for the person being photographed
