Best LED-LCD monitor for gaming/picture quality?

Q. Basically I'm just getting tired of the washed out blacks, which are not horrible on my current monitor it's just very noticeable when playing dark games.

I've been searching and doing research for a couple days now and I've narrowed it down to three possibilities:

1. http://www.amazon.com/LG-E2250T-PN-22-Inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B003XPT86Q/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1296441099&sr=1-12

2. http://www.amazon.com/LG-W2240T-22-Inch-1080p-Monitor/dp/B003DA0SQU/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1296441099&sr=1-2

3. http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2250WM-LED-21-5-Inch-Widescreen-Integrated/dp/B003HFCDLY/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header

With number 3 looking like the best one right now. I'm just wondering which one will be the best for my purposes.

If for some reason these are all bad/you have a better suggestion here is my limits:

~$200 (any more is pushing it), must be 1080p, anywhere from 19 to 25 inches, speakers (if possible), either DVI or HDMI input (I can manage with either), 5ms response time or better, and has to have good blacks/whites and good color (I've read about a lot of LEDs with bad coloring).

Please help this is turning out to be much more difficult than I intended.

A. If you have the space, get a CRT. Despite being perceived as obsolete, they have the deepest blacks out of any current monitor technologies, the highest contrast (up to 15,000:1 actual) and also the fastest response times (<1ms). Decent 21" ones can be found easily on the free stuff section on Craigslist.

If not, try to get a PVA-type panel, which can get around 3000:1 actual contrast (not dynamic, which is often a lie) . Both of these would work:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/17/benq-debuts-high-end-ew2430-ew2430v-led-monitors/

EDIT: I'm serious about the CRTs. I'm typing this on my laptop that's hooked up to my 2001-era NEC CRT and the image quality of the CRT compared to my laptop's LCD is incredible. The blacks are just so deep - the one on my laptop by comparison just looks milky. I'm not kidding about their super high contrast ratios.

LED vs LCD vs computer monitor?
Q. Hello..

I want to buy a desktop but i'm having trouble with the screen.. i want a tv. not very large like 22". to use it like a permanent screen. it would be placed on my desk. but some IT guy said it wont do me any good I should just buy a regular computer monitor. ( I use the computer for browsing, typing and watching videos).

what do you think guys? and if you say tv which should I buy, LED or LCD.?

A. if you the type who doesn't give anything about spending money then go for LED.
if your the one who spends a lot of time and you have no life with it and care about money
buy LCD

if you have life and you don't spend time on computer buy a decent monitor.
its your choice you choose.
Good luck!

is SAMSUNG LCD MONITOR really good?

Q. i want to know, is BW1931+(19") nice choice?

A. "Samsung" LCD Monitors are Quality brand everybody knows that....

Durability is one of the reasons why do people
trust this company...Tho!!

Actually my family owned several "Samsung" T.V. for so many years now still don't have any problem with it...

Just giving you small thoughs of Durability is...

"Samsung 940 BW" with 4Ms response time is one of the best "LCD" monitors in the market today....

But if you are into "Gaming and Video" get a faster Response time you could find such as 2 Ms..

Just to prevent Ghosting and Blurring.....

I could recomend another brand that is also good despite of it's price also has the same Specs with the branded ones...

"View Sonic" great reviews on this product also proven Quality....

It was my 2nd choice when I get my "Samsung 940 BW" 19" LCD monitor...

Don't have any problem with it until now ...

Hope this gives you a little Info...

Can you use a computer LCD monitor with the xbox 360?
Q.

A. Yes, 100%.you can use your computer LCD monitor with the xbox360 and the great news is that you will will get HD graphics on ur LCD monitor.but brother you have to buy a XBOX360 VGA HD AV cable to use it .

It cost 18 dollars .its not $40 .it was 40 when it first came to the market but now its 18 dollars.

There is no problem with the video connection .bcz you can connect it to your LCD monitor directly with the help of XBOX360 VGA HD AV CABLE.

But there is a problem with audio output .you must have a surround system speakers or other speakers to which the audio jacks should be connected and the audio jacks are the ones which comes with AV cable.i mean you must have the speakers which must have the input ports for the audio jacks i have mentioned.

I am also using my LCD monitor.

I hope this will help you my brother.

Take care bro.

What's the best non-Apple branded LCD display for my MacBook pro 2010 13"?

Q. I wanted to buy an LCD that's about a little more than 20" and use my MacBook pro basically as a Mac mini of some sort. I have an hdmi hookup and when I plug it into my HDTV 32" the screen is cut off around the edges so I want it to avoid doing that and fit perfectly with this new monitor. Also I dont want to do an exact mirror display, but I want to make it so I have more screen space to work with not just magnifying what I have on MacBook pro if you understand what I'm saying. Please help if you know what LCd would work best along with the settings on my MacBook pro.

A. Any IPS display will suit your needs.

What is the best type(LCD, LED, Plasma) of tv for console gaming?
Q. I think I'm going to go with the brand Samsung so really I'm wanting to know if LCD, LED, or Plasma will give the best gaming experience. Longevity is also a small factor.

A. Go with a 42" plasma by panasonic, its the smallest they make, with a 15.8 GBps or greater transfer rate HDMI cable. Panasonic bought Pioneer's panel technology when they went out of business. Plasmas don't have that screen burn issue any more either. Plasmas have 0.00001ms or something like that pixel response, and true 600hz refresh rate. (600 pictures per second). The problem with 240hz and 120hz tv's is its all picture processing and creates a fair amount of input lag and unnatural movement. LCD TV's are terrible for gaming, no matter what the refresh rate or pixel response time. If you want a small screen, which would give you a very sharp, crisp picture, get a Samsung 2770FH monitor, its a 27", with a 10.2 GBps transfer rate HDMI cable. They are a 1ms pixel response time monitor, 60hz which is ps3's native output refresh rate, and the reason pixel response is important is because the lower the response time, the sharper the picture stays. I owned one and it was a wonderful screen, and I noticed a big difference between it and the samsung 23" 2ms monitor immediately playing F1 2010. Anywho, hope this helps, get internet that is at least 1 mega byte download speed, and always set whatever screen you get to game mode.

How to setup Multiple Monitors?

Q. I want to setup a multi-monitor computers system. Can someone please explain the various ways to accomplish my goal? I would like to use 3-4 screens for Day Trading. Thanks!

A. The Three main ways to Setup Multiple Monitors

1) You can buy a pre-manufactured multiple monitor computer. The best place to purchase a multiple monitor computer is at: http://Multi-Monitors.com. They carry a multi-monitor computer line called SUPER PC that can support from 2 to 12 monitors (or more if you ask).

http://www.multi-monitors.com/SUPER_PC_Multi_Monitors_com_Multi_Screen_LCD_Displays_s/21.htm

2) You can get a USB to VGA Adapter, or USB to DVI Adapter that will allow you to add an extra monitor to your computer via any USB2.0 Port. You can also add multiple extra monitors by using multiple adapters. This is a great option for viewing documents, surfing the web, using Microsoft Office and many other business tasks. This is not a good option for intense graphical situations such as HDTV, Blu-ray, Gaming and 3D / CAD Workstation applications. For those types of scenarios, it is highly recommended that you purchase a high-powered multi-monitor workstation or a Matrox Dual or Triple Head2Go.

http://www.multi-monitors.com/SUPER_PC_Multi_Monitors_com_Multi_Screen_USB_Adapters_s/22.htm

3) You can replace or add an extra video card to your existing computer, depending on how many monitors you wish to support. Although this sounds easy enough, this is a rather complex solution for a beginner, especially when trying to find a compatible graphics card. For this reason, I am going to write an entirely seperate post on that topic and will link to it here, very soon.

http://www.multi-monitors.com/category_s/1914.htm

Once you have your multiple monitor system set up and ready to use, you will need to enable all of your monitors in your Display Properties Control Panel. Here is a great link to a complete and animated walkthrough of how to enable your multiple monitors in Windows.

Multi-Monitor Display?
Q. I am looking for a four monitor quad display like I have seen on Wall street. I am a Day Trader and I've been reading a lot of articles about how Multiple Monitors increase productivity, but they never say where to get the proper equipment. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I'd love to setup a multi-monitor display as soon as possible. thanks.

A. Hey, I asked a very similar question a few weeks ago and several people directed me to http://Multi-Monitors.com. I actually bought the same multi-monitor display you are looking for. Here is a link to the multi-monitor displays:

http://www.multi-monitors.com/SUPER_PC_Multi_Screen_LCD_Displays_Multi_Monitor_Arrays_s/21.htm

Also, here's the computer I got if interested:

You have to get a computer that can support four monitors.

Connect LCD monitor with computer via HDMI.?

Q. HI,
i need to buy a monitor, so i was thinking that if i can use a LCD TV as monitor, would be great, so i want to that connect LDC TV with computer via HDMI how will be the clarity? i am an architect, so work on CAD and max. will the TV clear as monitor or? witch tv do u suggest?

A. You might not like my answer, but I don't think a TV is a great choice for computer monitors. The maximum resolution of any TV is 1920 x 1080 and some as low as 1280 x 720, while high quality 28" and 30" LCD monitors can go as high as 2560 x 1600. They will run about the same price at that size: ~$1K.

Unless your screen will be > 6' in front of you, the only thing you'll end up accomplishing with a screen that size is moving your head from left-to-right more often.

I talked a buddy of mine out of this same decision and he's happy I did. He bought a 24" Samsung monitor (1920 x 1200) for $350 and loves it. You might even want to consider dual-screening 2 x 22" or 2 x 24" for a MUCH bigger workspace (but more head movement :-) )

Of course if you can also use your TV for more standard purposes, you might want to just get the TV.

24" HDCP,with hdmi input lcd monitor?

help planing out mame cabinet.?

Q. im new to building my own arcade cabinet. are there any tips that anyone wishes to share to a bignner? like where to shop? safty precautions? or how much money and time and space it could take up?

A. I am assuming you are building from scratch. Best advice is plan, measure twice, cut once, Use quality controls, and Take Your Time.

Let me start off by saying the end product is what every thing is based on:

Money:
The wood: What you use to make the cabinet needs to be sturdy and one side finished for a good look. (I have used HDO plywood in the past very good product http://www.freemansupply.com/HDOFirPlywood.htm)
The computer: It needs to be fast enough to run the games you wish to play. You can go overboard here and just buy to fast of a cpu that you just didn't need. Remember hard drive space.
The monitor: This can very also. Mainly 3 types to use. 1 a CRT type like the original arcade games used. 2 a flat screen plasma or lcd TV/Monitor. and 3 a regular TV 20+ inch. (Note that orientation is a factor also for the install and overall size.)
The controls: You will need to know how many buttons, joysticks, rollers, spinners, ect you will need for the games you will have loaded. The control panel is what I always built my Cabinets around. I determined How many player and the needed controls and placement. Made a mock up with cardboard to see the size and function ability of the controls. Knowing this size allowed me to know how wide the cabinet would be and then the size of the monitor. Also it showed what king of hardware I needed to connect the controllers to the computer.
The Hardware: You will need wire and at least one ipac/jpac. I always added two fans, a power strip, lighting, speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse.
Cost: from scratch can run from as low as $800 to over $2000 from my experience.

Time:
As stated before TAKE YOUR TIME! plan, plan, plan. I never finished one on a set time schedules, but did make goal points.
1 acquire the computer, hardware, and controls.
2 while still acquiring parts, start design as mock build ups.
3 acquire the wood and other materials to assemble the cabinet.
4 build the cabinet.
5 build the control panel.
6 install the monitor.
7 install the wiring
8 Install the CPU
Not really that easy but generally the order.

Space?: To build? I use an 8x10 Shed. Cabinet size, I've only made one monster that was almost 4foot wide and deep. I built one that was a sit down that was two parts and they pinned together and took up about 3.5 wide and 7 foot long. But most are gust over 2 foot wide and just under 3 foot deep. All sizes are footprint size, control panels not added.

Here is a great resource sight for a lot of you needs when building. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?board=1

Congrats on on your build, take your time and have fun.

Want to build a MAME arcade cabinet?
Q. I want to build a MAME arcade cabinet, where I will buy the monitor and PC to run the MAME emulator.
I will probably play with it a bit and then want to sell it.
Is it illegal for me to sell the arcade cabinet WITHOUT ANY ROMS just the emulator?

A. As mentioned, it should be legal to sell without any roms (although not 100% sure if that violates any licensing with MAME.. might want to sell it without MAME as well if you want to be 100% legal.. maybe just delete the main EXE file and leave the rest configured hah).

As for where to buy the PC and monitor... any PC and monitor will do. The more powerful, the better for newer games, but most classic games will run fine on even an older PC.

Some people get proper old school CRT monitors so they have the right look and feel, but you can use an LCD monitor as well. Many emulators have a simulated scanlines options to make it look more like an older CRT monitor or support plugins to enable this kind of feature.

MAME for Windows isn't optimized for 3D hardware acceleration (last I read), so if you're trying to get something that'll run newer 3D games, you're probably going to have to go with raw processor horsepower rather than something with a fancy graphics card. I think it'll do 2D hardware acceleration but there's no DirectX support for 3D acceleration so it's all decoded with the main processor.

If you're buying a PC specifically for it, depending on what you want to do, you might look at home theater PCs (HTPCs). Lenovo, Asus, Shuttle and Zotac have a wide range of small Mini-ITX (?) and smaller boxes that look pretty good. Some look like the Nintendo Wii or like a cable modem. Very tiny. Half the time they come as barebones so you have to provide some extra parts.

If you wanted something halfway portable, you could get one of those and a small monitor (maybe even a USB-powered one from Liliput or Mimo so you'd have one fewer power cables).

Also, I'd highly recommend either an X-Arcade controller (or the buttons/sticks/etc they sell non-assembled) or SlikStick for the controls. Very durable.
