How can I watch digital TV on an LCD monitor? (without hooking up a computer to it)?

Q. I have an LCD monitor with HDMI and DVI inputs and I would like to use it as a TV. I would like to connect to antenna and watch the digital broadcast TV after the "transition". I understand I need an external tuner, but what will work after the transition and which is best?

A. A DTV converter is a digital tuner, so the only obstacle you have is finding one with a DVI or HDMI output or buying a VCR with These connections and using the coax connection from the DTV box.

A. A TV contains two elements, a tuner and a display. You can buy a digital tuner now which will still work after the changeover. The problem will be with the outputs from the tuner, which are generally in the form of a SCART plug. There are several DVD recorders with HDMI outputs so it might worth checking those out. Some have both analogue and digital tuners.

What is the life of LCD Screens comes for Computer ?

Q. I want to buy LCD Screen for my new system but I am afraid,
cause I heard LCD comes in TFT(Thin Film Transistor) technology and It uses 1 transistor for 1Dot pixel in screen, I know the cases of Dead pixel which may corrupt our LCD Screen.
So I want to know what is the Life of Computer LCD Screen?

Is there any different technolgoy available in Computer LCD Screen which can help for long life of LCD without this kind of Problem?

A. The last LCD screen I had with any stuck or dead pixels was a Sony laptop I bought January 2000 and it had other screen issues from a poorly designed ribbon cable.

None of the other LCD laptops or monitors at work or home have have had any noticeable stuck or dead pixels, and I have not noticed any on a 27" HDTV Ready LCD I got years ago or the 40" I have had for a year or two. Not that it cannot happen with a substandard brand. Mechanical failure from abuse is more likely. Typical lifetime of the backlight is 50,000 hours, which if you used it 8 hrs per day every day would be about 17 years.

We did have one LCD monitor fail completely (blacked out) by I think that was probably due to a fatigued solder joint on a VGA socket. Whatever it was, the LED would blink green instead of steady green when on or blinking amber in standby. But that was just one failure of many faultless.

How can I use my Panasonic 27" Led tv as a monitor?
Q. What I actually want is to use both my tv and a LCD flat screen monitor with my tower at the same time. The dual monitor thing yah know?

A. Much depends upon:

1. What output ports are available on your PC.
2. What input ports are available for your Panasonic.

There are converters to change (for instance) DVI to VGA, but you will always suffer some degradation of definition when you use one of these.

I would add that your current video card would also need to support dual monitors for this to be successful. If it does not, you might invest in a USB video card that installs it's own drivers and allows dual monitors to be used irrespective of the original video card.

Something to think about, anyway. :-)

Do all LCD monitors with a resolution by 1080 have 1080p? And does having 1080p mean it is full HD?

Q. Im planning to buy a full hd lcd monitor for my computer. I use it for watching movies and playing games. But i don't quit know how to determine if it is full HD. And would you guys know the benefits of having a full hd lcd monitor

A. If you want to play back Blu-Ray DVDs at full pixel-for-pixel 1080p High-Definition, you need the following:

1) A Blu Ray drive.

2) An HDCP-compliant video card.

3) An HDCP-compliant monitor that can display 1920x1080. (So in a nutshell, "Full HD" monitor = HDCP compliance and 1920x1080 resolution-capable.)

Keep in mind that HDCP-protected digital high-def video content like Blu Ray discs requires both the vid card and monitor to be HDCP-compliant. If one of those pieces are not, HD Blu Ray movie playback will NOT work.

Hope this helps.

Can i hook up a dvd player to an lcd monitor using monster cable w dvi end and dvi with hdmi adapter end?
Q. thanks for the help everyone! im still having trouble! i have a vga going out to my pc and a dvi going out into a hdmi. i used a monstor dvi to hdmi converter to use the monster dvi cable. i can switch between vga and dvi with a button on the lcd monitor. the vga comes up fine. when i turn on the dvd player and switch to dvi mode it comes up fine as well with he samsung "on" screen. BUT when i put a dvd in the samsung hd850 the scepter 19 inch x9w the screen goes lite blue then black then lite blue then black. when i take the dvd out te samsung menu comes up perfect. i tried changing the dvd players specs fom 480 to 720 to 768. the lcds to res is only 1400x900. i changed from the dvd players rgb-normal to rgb-expand and from dvi A to dvi B. this is all in samsungs menu. I am pulling my hair out. the sceptre lcd displays the dvd player when it turns on but not the movie when i load it in the player!!!! What am i doing wrong? i feel like i ate a bowl of clown this morning guys! thanks!

A. I would see if you have a progressive scan function on the DVD player. Other causes may be if you have the right DVI adaptor. There are several types of DVI-D, DVI-I etc. recearch this on the link I provide below compared to what you physically have.

Q. I am looking for a TV tuner to use with this monitor: Sony SDM-P234W 23 inch LCD Monitor that supports HDTV. The monitor's video inputs are VGA or DVI. Is there any tuner that does this? Thanks!

A. Hiya Marcellus,

Yeah, there are many stand alone HD tuners that will give you HDTV over DVI. Here is one that looks good and priced right: http://www.epvision.com/index.htm

That type of unit would do the trick unless you are referring to a tuner that is installed in your PC and will receive HDTV.

What brand is the best when it comes to cameras?

Q. Canon or Nikon? And what's the difference between dslr/slr/hdslr? Can you please tell me what camera is the best when taking pics from afar?

A. Both cameras which you have mentioned are good. But I recommend you Cannon T3i concerning its affordable price and high image quality as it has 18.0 MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 Image Processor and speed with enhanced video shooting options.
Here is what professionals say about this camera, i hope it helps your decision:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R20WM9N74Y83IH/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B004J3V90Y&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=arfdwh-20

Pictures taken from canon cameras are much brighter and with true colors as compared to Nikon and if you are a beginner you may chose it because its not much costly plus user friendly.
T3i has a feature of ISO 100 - 6400 for shooting from bright to dim light.
It also has a Vari-angle 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor (3:2) for shooting at high or low angles and 1,040,000-dot VGA with reflection reduction
T3i has a great feature of Live view which is very much helpful in shooting videos.

How do you make the picture that you take appear on your monitor after you take it with the Nikon d3000?
Q. I have a Nikon d3000 and I need to know how to see your picture after you take instantly on your monitor.

A. If by "monitor" you mean the LCD on your camera, look on page 118 of your user manual and follow the instructions under the heading "Image Review"

If you are asking if you can link the camera to your computer, you cannot. Tethering is not an option on most entry level dSLR's

How can I optimize my monitor resolution with my Macbook Pro?

Q. I have a 23" ASUS LCD monitor that I was using via HDMI with my PC. Now I have a Macbook, and the monitor is hooked up via the HDMI/DVI adapter, but the resolution, even set at 720 on isn't nearly as good as before. Am I stuck with this or is there a way to get the external display looking as good as it did with PC?

A. 23" monitors are usually 1920X1080 not 720p (1280X720)
try setting it to 1920X1080.

What is an affordable, quality LCD TV for a college student?
Q. I want to get an affordable, quality LCD TV to use as both a Television and a monitor for my computer (Macbook Pro). A good picture quality is important because I will be watching movies and playing games with this screen. Sound quality would be nice, but not a huge deal since I have a set of 5.1 surround speakers to use :-p.
Hook me up! Haha.

Thanks in advance!

A. whatever you do dont buy a Vizio no matter how cheap they are. They all die within a year

Better alternative for the Dell UltraSharp U2711 ?
Q. I'm a bit confused here. The Dell UltraSharp U2711 seems to score very well on tests, but it is getting a bit old. Now I find some test results that say it's no longer the hot shot it used to be. Is that true?
Can anyone recommend a BETTER screen of these specifications:

- 27"
- 2560 x 1440
- price under 600 (or $ 800)

Thanks a lot in advance!

A. You could look into the Samsung LS27A850DS... it is new LCD "PLS" technology. I'm not seeing too many reviews out there, but the few that I have seen seem to love it.

Here is a link to the specs/price (Canada):
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=64747&vpn=LS27A850DS%2FZA&manufacture=Samsung

Here is a link to a glowing review, and a hands on experience:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4JlB01bkEk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezKQjtM8FdE

All I can say is I own a Dell 27" Ultrasharp and 3 Samsung Monitors... and the Dell is starting to have issues 3 years later... so I can only recommend Samsung based on my experience. I also like a 27" with 1920x1200... and don't want such hi-res as 2560x...

is there a way i can use MAME on my laptop but play it through my TV?

Q. is there something i could buy that would allow me to play mame on my laptop but use my TV screen as a monitor?

A. To be honest with you your not going to be happy with the laptops performance with most newer games trying to prot it out to a tv.

My experience of using a laptop that I connected to a cabinet conversion I made. I used dazzle video edit to be the hub between the Laptop and the monitor, I had the usb Ipac connecting the Laptop to the controls, full sound. I installed a docking station in the cabinet for quick connection. It worked well with the older classic arcade games but the newer higher graphic games did not fair as well. many times freezing. I changed the Dazzle out and the monitor. I placed an LCD monitor and used the S-video output of the laptop. This helped out alot but performance lagged compared to my table top computers. I eventually just went with a mobo mounted to the cab and built it from there. I have a Mini PC that I can take with me to play where ever that has a graphic card with s-video I connect to a TV or my fav a projector.

Hope my lesson can help you...

The best arcade monitor for a mame cab?
Q. what do you guys think is the best arcade monitor for a mame cab? One that will fit in a KI2 or MK2 cab. I've been looking at the WG D9800 27". It will fit but some adjustments will have to be made to the cab and I want something I can just pop right in.

Thanks for the input,
Spacegoogie

A. KI2 and MK2 have 25" screens and yes the WG 27 will fit by modifying the mounts a little and making a new bezel. I would use 24.8" MAKVISION Tri-Mode Monitor $440.00. I use Makvision Dual Resolution 19" LCD Monitors With GEN III Frame $555.00 for a lot of my MAME cabs due to it being touch screen. http://www.happcontrols.com is where I buy mine from.

Good Luck.

Can computer Led/Lcd monitor upscale lower resolution video to fit in higher resolution screen?

Q. Ok it's probably a noob question.

As far as I know HD led/lcd tvs can upscale lower resolution game video/frames(ps3 xbox 360) to fit the whole screen.

So I need to know can computer monitor with hd resolution support (1920x1080) upscale 1360x768p resolution game video/frames to fit the whole screen?Or I need to play at native 1920x1080p resolution so that the monitor can fill the whole screen? Is there any special type or model of any Lcd/Led monitor that can upscale Pc game's frames from lower resolution to fit the whole screen? Is this any special feature for computer Led/Lcd monitor? If so what is this feature is called/named?Do different manufacturers lcd monitor have different names of this feature?

the reason I am asking is because I play at 1360x768p resolution on 16 inches lcd monitor and now I am thinking about updating to a 1920x1080p monitor. But if I play at 1360x768p resolution will there be blank spaces around the edges of monitor screen or the monitor will upscale the game frames to fit the whole screen ?
ok those blank bars do make me feel the monitor is not used to it's full potential

kind of makes the monitor feel empty and game screen with black bars also feels

quite weird to me.

So what is the aspect ratio of 1360x768 resolution 16:9 or 16:10?Will it upscale and fit to 1920x1080 resolution monitor or leave blank bars outside the game frame?

A. 1360x768 is 1.7708333 ratio. 1920x1080 is 1.777777 ratio. Very close.
16:10 is 1.6 ratio. 16:9 is 1.77777 ratio. As you can see, the 16:9 ratio screen best fits both the resolutions you are trying for.
But there is a cost to upscaling. Since you cannot manufacture greater detail out of a lower resolution signal like 1360x768, what upscaling does is to add in duplicated pixels every so often. Since there are (1920-1360 = 560) more pixels to put into the picture, that means somehow those 560 pixels are added over the spread of 1920 pixels. About every 3.42 pixels another one is added. Actually it goes 3,3,4,3,4,3,3,4,3,4 etc. As you can see, a lot of duplicates are added. The resolution is not any better. It is just expanded to cover greater area of screen. It does get fuzzier if you compare side by side. But you are supposed to view from a greater distance so you will not notice.
And, I think the standard is 1366x768, not 1360x768. That gives a 1.7786 ratio.

What does the ration mean in regards to the specs of LCD Monitors?
Q. When researching the specifications of LCD monitors, there is a ratio there, something like 1000:1. Some are different and I was wondering what those numbers mean. Is it the quality of the screen?
Thanks

A. You usually can't believe this number (its called the contrast ratio) because the manufacturers will inflate it with their own special tests. Either way, higher is better. What it means is that the amount of light coming from a screen when it is pure white is 1000 times brighter than the light coming from it when it is pure black. That's what 1000:1 means.

What should I do with my cracked LCD monitor?

Q. My monitor just broke, but its old and i don't really care, so whats something fun or constructive that I could do with it. It looks pretty cool looking actually with the waves of color and such

A. One of the more impressive things I've seen people do with old LCD monitors (normally ones the backlight has won out in) is to remove the actual LCD components from the rest of the monitor and use it with a transparent projector. The web is filled with DIY instructions for it, and I'm only including a handful here - if you don't like them, a quick web search will turn up scads more.

Now, if yours is to fubarred to use as a proper video projector (you mention "waves of color", so the LCD screen might be salvagable or not), you might consider pulling off the above mentioned project, except through in an extremely wide angled fresnell lens. Then hook it up to the secondary monitor output on your PC, aim it at the ceiling, and put the visualizer from your favorite audio playback program on that screen. Instant room-wide trippy visuals that go with your music.

Eh, it's just an idea, anyways.

But no matter what you do, and I cannot stress this enough, BE CAREFUL! Though an LCD isn't as dangerous to work with as a CRT, there are still nasty things in the bowels of these that can shock you severely. Work safely.

How to set up the LCD Monitor Circuitry(details) for DIY overhead projection?
Q. I have searched a lot but this step seems to have not been explained in any of the sites on net. Please give illustrated details as I might attempt to set up an overhead projector in future for gaming and movies on the wall.I want details regarding the connection of LCD on the overhead projector with my computer and safety measures and voltage requirements.please help.

A. Get a proper video projector. It will work for sure, and you won't risk breaking anything as you would an LCD panel.

How can i make my LCD Computer monitor a TV?

Q. I just bought a HP 19 inch Widescreen Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor and i use it to play on my PS3 with a HDMI to DVI converter. I was wondering if i could hook up the monitor to a standard tv cable without a tv tuner. Please help?????????????????????????????????????

A. You might be able to, if you have a digital HD cable box. Digital HD cable boxes usually have either a DVI or HDMI output, and you should be able to hook it up in the same fashion as you did your PS3.

If you don't have a digital HD cable box, call your local cable TV service provider and ask for one.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

How big should my widescreen LCD be to match a normal LCD's height?

Q. I am thinking about upgrading to a widescreen LCD monitor with my new computer. How big should a widescreen LCD be to have the same screen height as a 17" and/or a 19" regular LCD monitor?

A. Hi. The screen's resolution should equal the number of pixels in the LCD, so size is not the main issue. My LCD has 1280 by 1024 pixels, so that is what I run at. The 17" and 19" dimensions are the hypotenuse values (diagonal). I don't know the brands you are looking at but try to have at LEAST 1024 vertical pixels.

What's the best, safest way to mail a desktop computer and LCD monitor?
Q. I'm mailing my computer and monitor from KS to NY through the mail. What kind of shipping/materials would I need to secure a safe delivery?

A. Because of the financial value of the unit, you must insure it. Most package delivery services will not insure it unless the box meets their criteria and that can be very hard to satisfy. If you have the original manufacturer's shipping boxes you are probably ok, but if not you may find yourself in a situation where the carrier will not insure it. Usually the easiest way to get the carrier to accept and insure it is to have it packaged by a shipping company (e.g. UPS store or Fex Ex Kinko or similar).

Ground transportation is fine for this, and a lot cheaper than air.

What is the difference between a computer monitor and an LCD/LED TV of a similar size?

Q. I would like to get a large monitor for my vision considerations. What are the major differences between two similar sized TVs and Monitors?

A. Computer Monitors
1.) Only go up to 32''
2.) Higher Image Quality. Better at display fine text
3.) Less inputs
4.) Cheaper
5.) Are only available with a refresh rate of up to 120hz
6.) Only higher end or more expensive models can be effectively mounted

LCD/LED
1.) Can go up 80''+
2.) Dollar for dollar image quality of a LCD TV won't match a computer monitor.
(partially with help of the video card)
3.) Far more inputs. Can plug your blu-ray player and all your other devices.
4.) More expensive
5.) Are available with a refresh rate of up to 240hz
6.) Better suited to mount on walls

How to choose gaming LCD/LED monitor?
Q. I am planning to get a new LCD or LED monitor for gaming. What should I look for when choosing a monitor for gaming. Can you also give me some recommendations please.
Thanks

A. There are many important factors to purchasing you monitor.
1- Buy a monitor with a 2ms response rate or less
2- Are you ever going to use nvidia 3d? If yes, buy a monitor with 120hz refresh rate.
3- Resolution. A good gaming resolution for the price is 1920x1080. Most games do not exceed this resolution.
4- Size. Monitors have different lengths, but can have the same resolution. This means the DPI changes, or more pixels per inch square. This really won't make much difference though.
5- Contrast ratio. Look for high contrast ratios.
6- Color. Get a monitor with a wide field of color.
7- LED back lit. This affects the brightness

Verdict

I strongly recommend this monitor:

When I considered buying a new gaming monitor, this was my top pick for the price.

Can I use a new computer with my old Dell CRT monitor?

Q. I intend to buy a new computer soon with Core2 duo chip and nVidia grahic card to run Windows Home Premium. If it means anything i am using a Radeon x300 graphics.

A. you will have a much larger viewing area than a 17 inch, MUCH MUCH MUCH. you iell be able to fit more programs/windows on one screen. if it was me id go for it cuse i just like bigger monitors, and i was in ur position once (or a similar one) and i went for it and was very happy i did. but if you want to save your money, dont get one or wait for a good deal, like i got mine for $200 at bestbuy :). make sure it has at least a 5 ms response time, dvi and vga input, and anything above a 700:1 contrast ratio. and thats its not some cheap brand, get one made by someone like westinghouse, LG, samsung, etc.. not some office depot only brand.
p.s.
if you get this monitor gaming performance (if you game) will be greatly decreased, expecially with that graphics card.

Whats a difference between a 120hz LCD vs 120hz LED monitor?

Q. Can anyone shed some light? I'm stuck between buying the benq xl 2410 or asus vg236he. Only difference is asus is lcd and benqis led. Is it worth paying $400 for the led instead of the $328 lcd? What's the difference?

A. The only difference between an LCD and LED display is the backlight. In ordinary LCD displays, some sort of luminescent lamps are used, whereas LED displays use LED's (light-emitting diodes). The LED's consume less power (and therefore emit less heat), they also usually produce steadier light. The LED's also typically live longer than luminescent lamps.
Since LED displays consume less power and live longer, they are more economical in a long range. But given the price difference, it's unclear whether you'll get return on your investment any time soon (if at all).
Since the light characteristics differ quite a lot between different luminescent lamps and even more so between any of them and LED's, I'd suggest looking at the displays in question before buying them - just to make sure you like the colors.

What is the normal refresh rate for LCD monitor and browser scrolling itself?
Q. I have 2 refresh rates 60 and 75. I saw recommended is 75. Main problem of screen flickers is especially on mozilla and internet explorer. Even when I changed the mouse, the browsers scrolled up and down quickly and flicker. Why does this happen, how to solve?

Do provide contact so i can ask again please!

A. LCD monitors use 60hz. 75 makes moving graphics on the screen a little more smooth (mainly only noticeable in games) but most LCD displays don't support over 60.

There are some higher-end displays that support 120hz, but they're pretty damn pricey!

How do you connect your ps3 to your lcd computer monitor to play games?

Q. I would like to play ps3 games in full hd but I don't have enough money to cough up for a new hdtv. I have a VH242H Asus LCD monitor(24 inches). Do you need an hdmi to dvi cable? or can you connect it using hdmi directly since my monitor has an hdmi port. How do acquire audio?

A. you can use a HDMI cable to your computer. Once it starts up it should automatically reset the settings, or you can go to the settings to adjust them.

Audio will be set up after you have done the video settings on your PS3 (like right after so they arn't seperate) or they should automatically be done.

Will my Samsung R580 laptop handle an external monitor?
Q. I currently own a Samsung R580 laptop. I'm thinking about getting a 24 inch lcd monitor to plug into my laptop through the hdmi out port. I am planning on starting to play some online games again and just wanted to make sure my NVIDIA GeForce 310M graphics card is good?
I also am buying a lcd monitor with hdmi inputs on it.

A. It appears yes.
It shows that you have a HDMI and a VGA output.

What is the best LCD monitors for the best price?
Q. I am looking into getting a new LCD monitor so I can take advantage of my 256mb video card with a DVI output. I am wondering if anybody has some good input on which brand and model to get , I like the samsung T220 with it's 20000:1 contrast ratio . Thanks for you input.

A. Yes I can give you some input. For real, no b.s. like on Polls and Surveys. I studied monitors last year extensively, and here are my results:

The two best choices I could find were Viewsonic and Samsung. I went with the Viewsonic 22" because of it's extremely high user satisfaction ratings, the unbelievable warranty it came with, and the price. Samsung was neck-n-neck, with Viewsonic. But the warranty wasn't as good, and they weren't on the market as long so I had no long term performance information to go on. You will never regret buying a Viewsonic anyway. They are not going out of business, and their quality is near the top of the heap. I bought it from COSTCO. If you don't have a membership then I recommend that you get one, because you are going to save the membership fee with the monitor purchase anyway. They have both Samsung and Viewsonic. You can go with the Samsung, if you want. You won't hear complaints from me. I'm just advising you from extensive experience and age (unfortunately), how you can make the best choice. You can see my monitor on my 360. The picture is tiny, but, you can see it.

Is it better to have a higher or lower ps count on a LCD computer monitor?

Q. Looking to buy an LCD monitor, some say 8ps, some say 10ps, and so on, which is better?

A. Are you sure this is not ms (milliseconds) response time? I am unaware of a ps number. If it is ms, the smaller the better, anything under 12 is awesome, in the 20's even 30's is OK unless you are a serious gamer.

A. 17" about $15 to $20

15" LCD about $20 to $30

Should I get an HD Ready or Full HD LCD TV if I want to hook my PC up to it?
Q. I'm planning on buying a 32" (due to space restrictions in my room) LCD TV set to replace my current 29" CRT TV. I'm mainly going to use it for movies (DVD/Blu Ray) and gaming (Xbox 360/PS3). My friends tell me I will not be able to distinguish between an HD Ready and a Full HD set at 32" size, so I'll be wasting my money going for a Full HD set.

HOWEVER, I might want to hook up my PC to the TV (via VGA / D-Sub). Would it be worth it then getting a Full HD set? I currently use a 23" Dell monitor, set at 1920 x 1080 resolution, while using my PC.

A. Well, you use a Full HD monitor right? Try lowering the resolution to 1280x720 and see how it looks and feels quality and working space wise. Much worse right? You see now why your friends' advice is pointless. Same applies to a TV.

Full HDs are already a tad cheap these days. And offer MUCH More resolution and thus workspace for you. Multitasking, watching movie, music/video editing, games everything is much more crispy in a Full HD. Go for a Full HD man. There is a big difference. And the difference increases with the increase in screen size--totally opposite to what your friends said.

This is almost 2012. 1280s are a no go these days. Full HD will also make you much more future proof as pretty much all movies, programs and games are built so that they run at their best in Full HD. Cheers!!

For hooking up, if it's a newer model, pretty much EVERY TVs nowdays come with HDMI. If your system has an HDMI out, connect the TV with this. Or if you have a DVI out connect to that. Remember VGA gives worse quality than both DVI and HDMI. But it you don't have an HDMI capable device to run the TV, you need to buy a HDMI to VGA converter. You can get it and it'll get your job done.

Here, the converter: http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-HD15-Male-Cable/dp/B001OLCHJ6

What is a good LCD monitor for doing some photo work (hobby not pro) Budget = $400?

Q. Looking for a monitor good for doing photo editing but not anything completely professional. In researching monitors, many mention the gaming, video, text capabilities but not photo. I just want something that will have good color accuracy so that if I print what I see it's fairly the same thing.

A. Wait, maybe your budget is actually $500? Isn't that what you said, $500?

What is a good monitor for photo editing?
Q. I need one that has plenty of controls for adjusting the picture so I can calibrate it correctly, size is not too important.

Would I be better off with a LCD or a CRT? I've heard of CRT's being preferred by professional editors.

A. LCD monitor is the best for photo editing

What monitors should i use for my 3 monitor setup?

Q. I would like to have one 3d monitor in the center and 2 regular monitors on the sides. I prefer the 3d monitor to have 2 HDMI inputs of one HDMI and one dvi. i would also like all of the monitors to be 27 inches and have the same refresh rate.Preferably from the same brand but that is irrelevant. my budget is 900 at max. if you would be kind enough to leave links to your suggestions i would appreciate it very much. Thank you! have a nice day!:)

What is the monitor called where you don't have to struggle to find the best viewing angle?
Q. My lap top monitor is a constant annoyance because of the restricted viewing angle. My TV, an old style model, has no viewing problems based on the angle of viewing. When I buy my next laptop I don't want this problem. What is the type of display called where there is no problem of this kind?

A. LCD screen with In-Plane Switching (abbreviated to IPS) displays have wider viewing angles. You'll find it mostly in higher-end laptops, like Sony's Vaio S series.

A. Everything on here is capable of running them at max graphics, except, it's running windows 8.

Yes, that's right, the issue is the OS.

Very few games are compatible with Windows 8 so far, unfortunately.

Alright that's it, so tell me what you think!

A. All are good except for the CPU COOLER : hyper212 plus.

The Rosewill challenger casing you picked has a dimension:

Dimensions

18.50" x 7.48" x 17.08"

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

both of our casing has a similar width, yours being 7.48 inches. And based on that, the maximum height of a cooler that your casing can accomodate is up to 6 inches while the hyper 212 plus has a height of 6.24 inches.

Heatsink Dimensions

120 x 79.7 x 158.5 mm (L x W x H)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

158.5 mm(H) = 15.85 cm / 2.54 cm = 6.24 inches.

The hyper212 plus might fit inside but chances are you wouldn't be able to attach one of the two side fans to have more space and it would also look ridiculously very big inside your casing. But performance wise, the hyper212 plus is indeed a good cooler.

For such a casing, it is better to get an aftermarket cooler that has a 92mm fan like this one for example:

ARCTIC Freezer 13 CO CPU Cooler - Intel & AMD, 200W Cooling Capacity, for 24/7 Operation - $30

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186065

This cpu cooler has a height of 5.1 inches =P

How much would a computer like this cost me (custom built)?
Q. So basically, I wish to buy a ridiculously good computer within the next few months, and here are some of the specs I really would like to have:

Something like the: Intel Core i7-3960X 3.3 1 LGA 2011 Processor - BX80619I73960X (basically, a CPU processor that will be top of the market for the next 5-10 years)

2 (or more) 2TB+ (or 4+ if they are 1TB) 15000 rpm (or something close, preferably)

And finally, a Shell with enough fans capable of keeping this computer from exploding
This was a lot more of a *are these good parts, and if so, how much would the top end parts cost* (such as the shell) instead of yea, I want this computer with these exact parts which I visited and saw the price that I'm to dumb to add up.

By the way, for "n/a," yea, I sure as hell can afford this. FYI I'm a professional computer programmer and probably make more money in a month than you do in a year (Just assuming since you've answered 3000+ questions on Answers) and I don't really work with hardware so I don't know this stuff all that well...

Thanks everyone else for your help :)

A. Well, no processor will be "top of the market" for more than about a year. Something newer and faster will inevitably come along. That said, you *can* build a machine that will more than meet your computing needs for the next 5-10 years, assuming those needs don't change.

Your system comes to $5,372.83 (not including shipping) on NewEgg.com and includes the following items:

- Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E 3.3GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80619i73960X

- COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler (the LGA 2011 processors don't include heat sinks/fans)

- COOLER MASTER RR-ACCY-2011-R1 Intel LGA2011 Retention Bracket for Hyper 212 EVO & Hyper 212 Plus

- ASUS Sabertooth X79 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

- G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL (two sets of 4 x 4GB, for a total of 32GB across 8 slots)

- MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5 Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card (the Radeon 5970 isn't state-of-the-art anymore; imagine it in 5-10 years!)

- CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200 1200W 80Plus Gold Certified Power Supply

- Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD2 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (for Windows and your applications)

- Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (two of these, for your data storage; you really don't need 15,000 RPM drives for data storage, even for HD video encoding)

- COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KKN5-GP Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case (more fans than you can shake a stick at)

- LITE-ON Blu-ray Burner with 3D Playback SATA iHBS212-08 LightScribe Support

- DoubleSight DS-307W Black 30" 7ms HDMI Widescreen Wide Screen LCD Monitor with IPS Panel Techology (didn't find any 32" monitors)

- ASUS VS248H-P Black 24" HDMI LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor (two of 'em)

- Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit - OEM

Hope that helps!

What is the best type(LCD, LED, Plasma) of tv for console gaming?

Q. I think I'm going to go with the brand Samsung so really I'm wanting to know if LCD, LED, or Plasma will give the best gaming experience. Longevity is also a small factor.

A. Go with a 42" plasma by panasonic, its the smallest they make, with a 15.8 GBps or greater transfer rate HDMI cable. Panasonic bought Pioneer's panel technology when they went out of business. Plasmas don't have that screen burn issue any more either. Plasmas have 0.00001ms or something like that pixel response, and true 600hz refresh rate. (600 pictures per second). The problem with 240hz and 120hz tv's is its all picture processing and creates a fair amount of input lag and unnatural movement. LCD TV's are terrible for gaming, no matter what the refresh rate or pixel response time. If you want a small screen, which would give you a very sharp, crisp picture, get a Samsung 2770FH monitor, its a 27", with a 10.2 GBps transfer rate HDMI cable. They are a 1ms pixel response time monitor, 60hz which is ps3's native output refresh rate, and the reason pixel response is important is because the lower the response time, the sharper the picture stays. I owned one and it was a wonderful screen, and I noticed a big difference between it and the samsung 23" 2ms monitor immediately playing F1 2010. Anywho, hope this helps, get internet that is at least 1 mega byte download speed, and always set whatever screen you get to game mode.

I am looking for a 32 LCD TV for gaming and using the web?
Q. I have a 27 inch monitor, but I want something a little bigger.

A. So you want a smart tv? For that size, lcd-led would be the best choice. If you have to spend more than $1000 for a monitor, it's better to get a 47" smart tv instead. If you go to Amazon now, they have an ongoing promotion for lg smart tvs and you can get a 47" lm6200 for less than $1000

What monitor/tv should I get for ps3 gaming?

Q. I need a monitor/tv for gaming. It has to be 26"+... I feel that 23 is too small. This will be a desk gaming monitor/tv. It has to be under 200. It will MOST be used almost everyday for ps3 gaming(mw3). I was gonna get the asus 23 inch Vh236h lcd monitor. It was the 2011 official gaming monitor. But I feel I want something a little bigger. Please help. Big thanks.

A. Monitor 24"-31" I'd recommend a Dell. TV 32" and up I'd recommend a LG LED set like the LM5800 or LM6200.

How much does a good gaming computer cost?
Q. I think I'm going to play Diablo III when it comes out, where is a good computer to play it on, and how much will it cost? I know Diablo III isn't out yet, but I know it will need a lot of requirements because its a huge game.

Desktop and or laptop.

A. Get at least a dual-core processor (quad-core recommended), with 3 GB RAM (4-6GB recommended), SSD for OS (40GB would suffice) and 500GB of HDD (1TB if you need and/or can afford), ATI 5770/5870 or nVidia GT275/285, 22" widescreen LCD monitor and a decent logitech keyboard/mouse. To run diablo 3, which you're not going to be until perhaps 3rd quarter of 2011, you'll require a robust PC, but not necessarily an expensive one. $850 should fetch you a good gaming PC, whereas top-of-the-line models will cost more.

Which monitor is best for 3D experience'? LCD or LED?

Q. I have a lot of 3D movie in blu-ray disk.so i want to watch them.i have blu-ray player but no monitor.for that,i decide to buy a monitor with tv card.so which monitor is better for 3D experience?,LCD MONITOR or LED MONITOR and why?(without 3D monitor).please help me.

A. You can buy 3d TV. 3D TVs guide under 2012 is the fastest way of getting the best 3d tvs for the money you spend. There are a number of brand for 3D TV, Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG and much more, but you just want to purchase 1 unit of 3D TV, as such reading the 3d TVs Guide under 2012 will be the fastest way to purchase the unit you love.

Smallest bezel 1200p monitor?
Q. I want to run quadruple monitors and I need monitors that can support a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and have a displayport interface. I want the smallest bezel possible so they'll look nice next to each other.

A. You will find fewer 1200p, next step up is the 2560x1600 ultra high resolution monitors. But official HD is 1920x1080 so most makers have those. If you run higher pixel count on the monitors, you will need more capable video card(s)--2GB VRAM and perhaps 2 or more cards in the MB.
The DisplayPort interface on a monitor might be difficult. You can get just as good by using a DisplayPort out from video card, adapter to HDMI or DVI dual link, and feed monitors that.
Thinner bezels are only available from a few makers--Samsung has one down to 6mm. http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/monitors/LS23MUQHB/ZA
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/monitors/LS23MURHB/ZA
LG and NEC could have some by now.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/07/lg-ea93-29-inch-ultrawide-lcd-monitor-shipping/
http://www.staples.com/Lenovo-LI2721s-27-inch-Wide-IPS-LED-Backlight-Monitor/product_140302?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:140302&KPID=140302
Please be informed that if there is an extremely narrow plastic border around the edge of the screen (only 2mm!) when the screen is OFF, you will see it is much wider when the picture is ON. The panel makers have to do some edge connections and strengthening behind the front cover glass. All super thin bezels are not the same!
You can cut the gap in half by doing overlaps--yes one will be in front of its neighbor by a half inch. If you sit about six feet away that will not be so noticeable. And your brain starts to ignore the black borders after a little bit.
Some tricks to erase bezels entirely were done by the BugEye units, http://bugeyetech.com/?page_id=384
the superwide Alienware curved display, http://www.desktopreview.com/default.asp?newsID=868 but this seems to be a type of projection display. It has 3 OLED type panels with lenses and mirrors in back of a translucent screen. The curvature is so bad that focus suffers.
There is another maker with a special glass overlay with a linear lens. The standard monitor is underneath, the lens spreads edge pixels sideways to blend to the next screen (software compensates to smooth the image without distortion).
The cheapest way is for projection and end blending. I did that about 40 years ago with still and movie projectors in theaters. Now video projection can do that quite well, but not at highest resolution yet. You can get some 720p video projectors for about $460 each at http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD66-Lumens-Theater-Projector/dp/B002ZWU33U/ref=dp_ob_title_ce or older used ones for about $300 each.
There are some 1080p ones out too for more: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/viewsonic-1080p-dlp-home-theatre-projector/prod3000469.ip?refcd=GL05251200010030&pid=_CSE_Google_PLA_Office-Supplies&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=sku3404465S

where can i find a 4:3 lcd tv for inside a arcade cabinet?

Q. What i did was took an old arcade cabinet and gutted it. I want to put a playstation with a tv inside of it. Problem is all new tvs are 16:9. I need an lcd tv thats 4:3 since the arcade machine used to have a tube television in it. Can anyone help?

A. No new 4:3 LCDs are being made anymore, you'll have to look on the used market. Best option is to get the largest 4:3 or 5:4 LCD monitor you can find, which will probably be about 19 inches or so. But be ready to be disappointed by the picture quality. Arcade games are intended for use with a high-contrast CRT monitor.

How large is the average arcade monitor?
Q. I'm vying for CRT, but if I can't find one of large enough size (I don't want to drop the money on an actual arcade machine monitor) I'll have to go LCD.

How big should I go, for a one/two person cabinet? I'm thinking 24".

A. I've built my own arcade cabinet and used a 27" Flat Screen Tube TV and used a video card with S-Video Out which is sufficient for arcade games.

Will an HDMI cable improve my monitors resolution for regular computer tasks?

Q. I currently have a 24inch lcd Led backlit 1080p monitor with hdmi port and well as an hdmi port available on my computer with gtx 460 graphics card..I am currently using the vga cable to connect the tower and monitor but will an hdmi cable improve the screen resolution even more for just internet browsing and daily tasks?

A. Digital output is square wave, Analog output round waves , electronic tubes. unless your computer is running electronic tubes or your monitor is tube type CRT then yes it is analog. If you are using a computer made within the last 10 years and LCD monitor you are digital. Me using Sapphire 6970, used HDMI 1.4 ( full HD, 4K,2K HDMI ) cables and VGA, I see no difference. As for resolution that depends on video card manufacturer and monitor, see manuals/specifications for both.

Why is my monitor going black after 2 seconds of displaying picture?
Q. My computer and monitor both have not been used for almost 3 months and both had never had a problem. The computer is almost brand new. When I first plugged the monitor in and computer on picture was displayed for 5 minutes then went black. All cords are plugged in, and different power cords have been used. I've looked up almost everything and nothing has worked. Please help
LCD monitor brand is Acer about 5-6 years old but has had no problems up until now.

The computer is a Hewlett Packard and is new I've had it for about 18 months.

A. Is this an lcd or led monitor? It lights up for a few seconds and then goes black?

A common problem with these kinds of monitors is when one or more capacitors get blown out in the power unit. The monitor typically does more or less what you've described when that happens.

The capacitors can be replaced, and it's not real difficult if you're careful. And you can probably buy the kit to do it with for about 10 bucks on ebay. Do a search on your make and model and the word capacitors and you'll probably find it.

It requires taking the panel apart and getting into the power unit in the back of it. You can usually identify which capacitors are bad by the fact that their tops will be puffed out. You have to remove these with a a soldering iron, and and solder in replacements.

If you're not comfortable doing this, and you can't get anyone else to do it, you're looking at buying a new monitor.

I had one go out like this. I put off fixing it for awhile, but turning it off and on a few times. It would generally stay on after I did that several times. Of course the problem kept getting worse until that fix didn't work any more.

Yeah check the simpler stuff first though. Is your video cable screwed in tight? For example.

Where can I find a large 4:3 lcd monitor?

Q. I am building an arcade cabinet and need a 4:3 monitor for the screen. i have 23 1/2 inches across to fill so i would like to find a 24 inch.

A. The biggest 4:3 LCD monitor I know of are the 20-inch models. Those have a native resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.

Those would be something like the Dell 2001FP or similar: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-2001FP-20-1-inch-Monitor/dp/B000BMBUAQ

Also, keep in mind that these monitors are measured in diagonals... If your cabinet is 23.5 inches across, you will need something on the order of a 26"-diagonal monitor to fill that space.

Want to build a MAME arcade cabinet?
Q. I want to build a MAME arcade cabinet, where I will buy the monitor and PC to run the MAME emulator.
I will probably play with it a bit and then want to sell it.
Is it illegal for me to sell the arcade cabinet WITHOUT ANY ROMS just the emulator?

A. As mentioned, it should be legal to sell without any roms (although not 100% sure if that violates any licensing with MAME.. might want to sell it without MAME as well if you want to be 100% legal.. maybe just delete the main EXE file and leave the rest configured hah).

As for where to buy the PC and monitor... any PC and monitor will do. The more powerful, the better for newer games, but most classic games will run fine on even an older PC.

Some people get proper old school CRT monitors so they have the right look and feel, but you can use an LCD monitor as well. Many emulators have a simulated scanlines options to make it look more like an older CRT monitor or support plugins to enable this kind of feature.

MAME for Windows isn't optimized for 3D hardware acceleration (last I read), so if you're trying to get something that'll run newer 3D games, you're probably going to have to go with raw processor horsepower rather than something with a fancy graphics card. I think it'll do 2D hardware acceleration but there's no DirectX support for 3D acceleration so it's all decoded with the main processor.

If you're buying a PC specifically for it, depending on what you want to do, you might look at home theater PCs (HTPCs). Lenovo, Asus, Shuttle and Zotac have a wide range of small Mini-ITX (?) and smaller boxes that look pretty good. Some look like the Nintendo Wii or like a cable modem. Very tiny. Half the time they come as barebones so you have to provide some extra parts.

If you wanted something halfway portable, you could get one of those and a small monitor (maybe even a USB-powered one from Liliput or Mimo so you'd have one fewer power cables).

Also, I'd highly recommend either an X-Arcade controller (or the buttons/sticks/etc they sell non-assembled) or SlikStick for the controls. Very durable.

monitor for a graphic artist and 32/64 bit question?

Q. Hello,

I am planning to buy a new monitor and a lot of people are recommending me to get a LCD monitor. Though I plan to buy a larger 17' inch CRT monitor because of it's color quality and low-priced. I really don't know what to look at in a monitor that would be perfect for my kind of work. (graphic design)

Probably newer LCDs nowadays are as good in terms of color quality as than CRTs I really don't know.

So far, I just figured out that my processor is 32-bit. According to a friend of mine it's part of the reason why even with 2gb RAM my system runs as it had 512mb RAM instead of 2gb. Is there I way I could fix this so that my system runs faster?

thank you
As for the 32-bit question:

My PC's spec:
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60Ghz
2gb RAM

A. Generally, LCDs will give you much better picture with a higher resolution and better color accuracy. Besides, I don't even know where you would find a CRT monitor anymore. The only draw backs to an LCD is that they are more expensive and can not always show a true black due to their back lighting. This can be solved if you can find an LCD with and LED back light. Look for specs such as contrast ratio, brightness, resolution, and even viewing angle.

The question about you CPU is kinda difficult to answer because you did not say what CPU you have. So, I will assume it at least somewhat new. In which case it can operate in either 32 bit or 64 bit. this is a function of the operating system, not the CPU (I assume you have Windows). YOUR FRIEND IS WRONG. 32bit Windows, whether XP or Vista, does have a limitation on the amount of RAM it can recognize, however, the limit is 3.5gigs. Your system WILL recognize and use all 2gigs of the RAM you have. If you want to increase your RAM past 3.5gigs you will need to get a 64bit version of Windows.

LCD or CRT is the best for a designer?
Q. I using a CRT - but want to replace by an LCD 17" - Could i do that? if yes, which one is the best? Thanks so much!

A. What are you designing? Many graphic artists, architects, etc. prefer CRTs because they can display at different resolutions natively, whereas LCDs must manipulate the image digitally to use a different fullscreen resolution (which reduces image quality). Also, if you are very picky, you will notice that on dark images, the screen is never lit completely evenly from behind on an LCD monitor, while the lighting is always even and accurate on a CRT. If you want an LCD, Apple (strangely enough) actually makes VERY nice LCD monitors, but they are on the pricey side.

Edit: also, make sure the LCD you get supports whatever output your video card has. If your video card has DVI, you are fine, as there are adapters to Analog. If you have only Analog output from your video card, make sure you get an LCD monitor that supports it.

What kind of lcd monitors are suitable for ps3 gaming?

Q. what kind of lcd monitors are suitable for ps3 gaming? just need to make sure it has a dvi or hdmi port right? and make sure it is hdcp compliant right? is the aspect ratio important? what about things like 720p etc
if a monitor supports only 1280x1024 resolution, which is 4:3 (right?), is it still compatible with ps3 gaming?

A. It should be HDCP compliant and ideally have a HDMI input, but DVI will work as well. If it only has VGA input (almost all new monitors now have at least one digital input) then you will need to use a transcoder box.
Many PS3 games are in 16:9 widescreen, so ideally you would want a monitor in that aspect ratio. Any resolution should look fine, but 1920x1080 resolution is needed to fully resolve every pixel in 1080p games. Anything higher than 1920x1080 is unnecessary and may actually degrade picture quality.
Fast response time is an important specification on LCD/LED monitors as well. Ideally, it should be no greater than 5 milliseconds.
LED monitors offer better contrast and color, but are more expensive than conventional LCD monitors.

A SXGA (1280x1024) monitor should be able to play the games, but you will either have letterboxing (black bars at the top and bottom) or a vertically stretched picture. SXGA monitors can display 720p perfectly. Set the aspect ratio of the game to 4:3 or Full if possible. Note that many LCD SXGA monitors are actually 5:4 aspect ratio.

How to choose the right LCD monitor for gaming?
Q. I am going to be using the LCD monitor with my Xbox 360 and I am having difficulties on what I should look for.

I can't seem to figure out what specs I am looking for. Can anyone tell me about which contrast ratio, vertical/ horizontal refresh rates, resolution, and brightness I should look for on an LCD monitor?

Also would it be better with HDMI or no? If possible can you also list a few monitors you would recommend?

A. HDMI is good, but expensive. DVI will give you the same result for a lot less.

Refresh rates are going to be about the same for every brand. However, some top of the line have 240 Hz rates - very good.

Resolution: 1920x1200 is HD widescreen.

Contrast of 1000:1 or better.

Response: 5 ms or less

Dot Pitch: 0.28 or less

Brightness: 300 cd at a bare minimum, get the highest.

Why do i always see a purple dot on my LCD monitor?

Q. As i turn on my pc a very litlle purple dot is standing near the center of my LCD monitor always in the same place, and it's always there. Is this because the sreen has been phisically damaged or it can also happen because of some error in the system.Once i have noticed the same dot, only green in the windows media player after some error has acured, but it vanished after. Can someone tell me why is that happening and how to get rid of the dot.I really hope that i did'n buy damaged LCD screen.

A. Just to confirm, the green dot appears before getting to Windows, correct? If so, it's a bad monitor. If before getting to Windows, then LCD has a pixel that has been burned to the screen. Recommend replacing the screen.

If not, go to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager. Left-click plus sign next to display adapters, right click on the adapter, click uninstall. Restart the computer, wait 5 minutes, and restart again. That should fix errors in operating system, if not the monitor or display adapter itself.

What amplifier i need for my car PC project?
Q. I have a 2008 VW golf GT with the standard 8 speakers package and i am planning to put a car pc. I will remove the oem Head Unit and put a 7" inch lcd monitor. I will need an amplifier to connect the speakers to it and then the amplifier to the carpc. My question is what type of amplifier i will need? I will have to buy 2 4-channel amplifiers?

Thanks in advance

A. A 4-channel with an optional mono amp for subs.

For a "carputer" the idea is to have a "non-hard drive" based computer that runs stand alone Windows XP/Vista from a Bootable USB drive that runs the music player of your choice using plugins.

Your MP3's are stored on another USB drive that can be removed for editing.

This all ties into your sound system (amps, subs/speakers).

No hard drive means nothing will crash. A touch screen display is really the only other peice of equipment needed that can be custom mounted in your dash as you say.

Look up BartPE and Sherpya. These two guys found a way to run the full GUI of Windows XP on a USB drive (under 600 Mb).

A shuttle style computer is all you need for the computer. You can even have 5.1 or 7.1 Dolby digital.

Here is a good place to start:

USB to VGA adapter good or bad?

Q. I'm planning to use an USB to VGA adapter to setup my computer for multi-monitors.

Questions:
Are there any problems with the quality?
Is it possible to set it up as "Extended" not "Mirrored"
What resolutions are available?
How much? :P

My 2nd monitor is an 18.5" LCD Monitor VGA.

A. If you have Desktop it is better to put in PCI Express slot card than USB.can be used as extended.
VGA requires much more bandwidth & USB VGA may not give you a High Resolution quality.

Check max resolution before finalise the VGA adapter/card.

Doe every monitor work for every desktop?
Q. I'am not really good at this computer stuff.

A. An LCD monitor usually uses 2 kind of connections:
VGA

http://cdnsupport.gateway.com/s/monitor/7005574R/graphics/VGA_CONN.jpg

DVI

http://pix.crutchfield.com/kb/hd_connectors%5Cdvi_connector.jpg

If your computer's videocard has the output connections like this one(VGA,S-Video,DVI) you can be sure any display you buy will work.
http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/1033/windowsxp/images/using/setup/hwandprograms/67360-video-card-annotated.jpg

If your computer has got only a white connector(or two) but not the blue one...just like this one:
http://multi-monitor.info/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/67360-desktop-available-dvi-port.jpg
...you can use a VGA->DVI converter(if the display hasn't got any DVI connection..although ...nowadays every LCD has DVI connections):
http://www.masproductos.com/catalog/images/vga-to-dvi.jpg

Anyway..here's a DVI->VGA converter..just in case you need it although I'm completely sure you won't:
