Where can I find a large 4:3 lcd monitor?

Q. I am building an arcade cabinet and need a 4:3 monitor for the screen. i have 23 1/2 inches across to fill so i would like to find a 24 inch.

A. The biggest 4:3 LCD monitor I know of are the 20-inch models. Those have a native resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.

Those would be something like the Dell 2001FP or similar: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-2001FP-20-1-inch-Monitor/dp/B000BMBUAQ

Also, keep in mind that these monitors are measured in diagonals... If your cabinet is 23.5 inches across, you will need something on the order of a 26"-diagonal monitor to fill that space.

where can i find a 4:3 lcd tv for inside a arcade cabinet?
Q. What i did was took an old arcade cabinet and gutted it. I want to put a playstation with a tv inside of it. Problem is all new tvs are 16:9. I need an lcd tv thats 4:3 since the arcade machine used to have a tube television in it. Can anyone help?

A. No new 4:3 LCDs are being made anymore, you'll have to look on the used market. Best option is to get the largest 4:3 or 5:4 LCD monitor you can find, which will probably be about 19 inches or so. But be ready to be disappointed by the picture quality. Arcade games are intended for use with a high-contrast CRT monitor.

Nikon D40x LCD monitor...?

Q. I just bought a Nikon D40 camera, and I can't see anything in the monitor while I'm taking pictures. The camera works just fine, and I can see the pictures I took on the screen on playback mode, but while I take pictures, the screen is black. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is that normal? If not, what can I do to fix it?

A. You are now using a real camera, not a point and shoot. You do not use the monitor to take photos. The camera cannot do that. You use the viewfinder. There are some DSLRs that now have "live view" in which you can see the image in the monitor to take the photo, but it is, in my opinion, a gimmick to cater to those who are used to point and shoots.

Holding a camera out and moving it around looking at a monitor is NO way to take photos, not with a point and shoot, and most definitely not with a DSLR.

WHAT... there is ANOTHER Steve P on here? I did not think YaHoo would allow two identical user names?

Is there some sort of Vari-Angle LCD monitor attachment that I can get for my DSLR camera?
Q. I have a DSLR Nikon D3100. The monitor does not flip out or up and down, and i was wondering if there is some type of Vari-Angle monitor attachment thing i could get for my camera, so I would be able to take pictures or film videos in front of the camera with me actually being able to see myself in the monitor.

A. On-camera monitors are common.

PS3 to PC with LCD/LED Monitor?

Q. How do I connect my PS3 to my PC?

Also, if I buy a new LCD/LED monitor that supports nVidia 3D vision, is it possible for me to play PS3 games in 3D vision too? Will it be worth it?

Do you think it's better if I buy a new TV instead?
And if I use an HDMI monitor instead of buying a TV, how do I get the sound?

A. If you want to use a monitor as a display for a PS3, you do not connect the PS3 to a PC. You connect the PS3 directly to the monitor.

The PS3's HDMI port is designed to work best with 1080p HDCP-compliant monitors, such as those equipped with an HDMI jack. So make sure the monitor you buy is 1080p full HD and is equipped with HDMI.

Is it possible to replace my lcd monitor on my pc with a brand new larger led-lcd tv?
Q. Will that work as a monitor? What tv brand should I get?

A. Yes. Virtually every LCD monitor and TV has a vga input connection. If you want better video, you may need to add a video card with DVI-out for a digital connection. Look for 120hz, 1080p, and LED. LG, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Panasonic are all very good. Element, Viore, and Vizio are budget-level displays, but are usually a couple hundred dollars less than the others with the same exact specifications, just uglier on the bezel.

LCD computer monitors and eye strain?

Q. have used CRT monitors on my pc's 4ever, I just bought an LCD 22" widescreen 5 days ago, heres the link http://www.abt.com/product/34518.html

I like the monitor, it has awsome color and clarity, my problem is, My eyes seem to be straining bad, almost feels like "burning" after 2 or so hours, my eyes get real tired, I dont recall having this on my crt, I have played with the settings like crazy, and it seems even with bright and contrast turned down, I still have it, The screen is matte, (not glossy) shoul i try to find a glossy one? heres a link to another model, its almost the EXACT same as what I got only it has a glossy screen http://www.abt.com/product/34510.html

Should I switch it to the glossy one? or will that have bad glare?

A. Turn up the refresh rate up to 70Hz if possible, 60Hz is the Default setting and alot people will get eye strain I get it on CRT monitors.

Can LCD monitor protect eyes?
Q.

A. A LCD doesn't give off gamma like a CRT did. But the downfall is LCD's dont have the same brightness to contrast ratio, so yes, an LCD will cause eye strain and this is well documented. But no you can safely remove your gamma suit and glasses.

Can you use lcd tv for a external laptop monitor?
Q. what connection do you need and where do i get it?? if i need one???
thanks

A. Depending on your laptop and TV connections you may have several options.

Most common on laptops is VGA out, it is usually a blue connector on the side or back of the laptop, with 15 holes, connector is D shaped. Make sure your TV has the same connector, typically labeled PC on the back of the TV.

Grab one of these cables:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119035

Once connected, change your TV input to PC. If you dont see a picture you may have to hit a key combo on your laptop to get picture. Typically it is the Fn key [lower left keyboard] and the F5 key across the top. [depends on laptop manufacturer].

what is the difference between LCD screens and plasma screens?

Q. can you also explain all these acronyms, LCD, CRTV etc

A. LCD is Liquid Crystal. Uses a light that is replaceable in most.
Plasma is GAS.
LCD screens are better.
If your going LCD, go HD.

LCD (Liquid crystal displays) &Plasma screens use completely different technology, also have some of the following differences.
LCD displays are used for things such as microwaves, digital watches, laptops etc.
LCD displays are also thinner, have smaller screens than Plasma, and have a better viewing angle.
LCD TV's dont suffer from Burn In.
A Burn in is what occurs when an image displayed on a plasma screen is in the same place for too long a time . This usually involves images such as logos of certain channels which remain on the screen.

Flat-panel TV technology - super-thin HDTVs that you can hang on the wall like a painting - have really taken a prime place in the HDTV-buying field

Plasma came first. Color plasma TVs hit the market in 1997 after decades of research.

The technology includes hundreds of thousands of tiny pockets of xenon and neon gas suspended between two panes of glass.

By ionizing the gas in the panel, electrodes within the panel are charged and phosphors in the panel give off light of the appropriate color.
At the time, plasmas were exceptionally thin and amazingly bright, and compared to old CRTs plasma appeared to be the wave of the future.
But plasma technology has its problems

First, the gas-and-glass structure is very fragile, & also reports of breakage during shipping or even getting them from the store to your house are common.
For the first few years, plasmas were notoriously prone to "burn-in," where repeated images (like a TV channel logo in one corner) would leave a ghost-like afterimage on the display.

Finally, all plasmas suffer from a gradual diminishing of brightness over time to the point where the panels will lose half their brightness after about 60,000 hours (based on the latest displays).

LCD technology is really no different than the LCD monitor or laptop screen you are probably more familiar with .
Polarized panels contain a gel of liquid crystal material, with wires criss-crossing the screen to activate the crystals at points as required.

Technologically it is less complicated than plasma, but it doesn't scale to large screens as well/
The largest LCDs are still quite a bitter smaller than the largest plasmas&LCD screens of the same size will be a bit more expensive than a comparable plasma.

Plasmas tend to have slightly better viewing angles than LCDs (meaning you can see the image well even if you're off to one side).
Older LCDs had relatively slow response times, too, meaning that the image sometimes couldn't keep up with the action on the TV, leaving a blur as a character rushed across the screen.

LCDs do have some advantages over plasma, however. First, they are considerably thinner and lighter.
they are easier to mount on a wall because of this & also don't suffer from the gradual decrease in brightness that plasmas do, so LCDs might make for a better long-term investment.

If you're trying to decide between the two, however, you really need to visit a store and check out both technologies side by side.
The difference can be quite dramatic- Plasma's rich colors and glossy screen can be too gaudy for some.
LCD is more muted and less showy (usually with a matte screen like most LCD monitors), but color accuracy can be better than with plasma.
Ultimately it's up to you to decide what looks better to your eye.
Expect the differences in price, brightness& burn-in to slowly diminish to the point where it's hard to distinguish between the two.

Dont' forget about rear projection DLP TVs. New models are coming out that can be mounted to a wall & quality of picture is better than LCD or Plasma

If you don't plan to spend the extra money to mount an LCD or Plasma to the wall, there is no reason to spend the extra money for the Plasma or LCD.

Further, DLP TVs are generally the depth of the DVD player you have sitting under the TV so you don't save any space by putting an LCD or Plasma on the wall &DLP's cost less than plasmas in all screen sizes and less than LCDs in larger screen sizes. DLP's don't loose brigtness over time like Plamsa and can be easily seen from many angles.
Light bulb burn out is not the issue it was like years ago. Go out there and see what looks best to you picturewise.
Just don't spend extra money on an LCD or Plasma that don't
save you any space.

DLP is great, but you really don't have the same viewing angles as you do with a plasma or LCD.
If you sit directly in front of your TV, then DLP will be a good choice, if you don't sit directly in front, you should probably think about plasma/LCD.

keep in mind:!
LCD's use less kilowatts than Plasmas do so they will be a bit kinder on your electric bill.
If gaming will be used, then I definitely recommend an LCD over a Plasma due to the burning effect& the glare factor, If you are placing this purchase close to a window where there is direct sunlight at some point, you may want to go with an LCD, since Plasmas will have a reflection or glaring effect

look for one that you like &seems resistent (especially if you have kids, you don't want them touching the LCD screen to see that 'cool' effect over and over again until they brake it)
I'm sure you know how easy is to scratch an LCD screen if you've used one.

because the technologies are not that different from each other anymore, they have improved Plasmas, LCDs &DLPs a lot and they are all really impressive also the price is pretty much the same and the screen size is huge on all of them, if you want something bigger to to the Cinema :)
Oh and remember if you want a Plasma to hang it on the wall, don't forget you'll maybe need to hook up your VCR, DVD Player and Cable Box.
You may wan't to think about this feature twice before you get it.

basically below is some help i hope.
lcd= no burn in, nice pic for gaming/hd
crt= burn in will happen, do not buy for gaming unless you have a 1000.00 budget and will be careful.
plasma=burn in but nice pic.
Plasma screen = enhances picture
HDTV = enhances picture

I would go with the sony lcd weather its the rear projection lcd or flat panel lcd &samsung's dlp's are nice as well.

CRT is a Cathode Ray Tube. It is basicly the same old fashioned tv you have now but upgraded to perform HD.
Most of these are rear projections like the oldstlye big screens at pizza joints ect.

LCD is Liquid Crystal Display an upgrade on Plasma using similar technology.

PLASMA alike LCD but with a different diode system.

Progressive means that each horizontal line is scanned consecutively.
This is different from interlaced which scans every other horizontal line. Progressive gives a higher quality image.

Both types of Flat-Panel TVs are thin enough to be placed virtually anywhere& produce a picture that is startlingly clear, sharp, and bright.
The only difference that really matters is the screen size. The majority of LCD TVs have a screen that measures 30" & smaller.
TVs with a screen of 32" and larger are typically the domain of the Plasmas.

u can get LCDs that are bigger then 37" u can get LCDs as big as 65".
But plasmas are limited to 37" or bigger.

The difference is LCD uses liquid crystals that either let light through or stop it.
Plasmas have a gas that glows to produce picture.
both are HDTV or atleast capable.
brighter rooms would b suitable for LCDs& plasmas otherwise
sorry if I might have repeated myself, hope this helped.

Digital photography - Which colour space is best?
Q. I just got a DSLR and I've been playing around with it a bit. I was wondering which colour space is best. I've always noticed that the photos I take look quite different on the computer monitor than when printed. Is it because of colour space settings?

Adobe RGB
or
sRGB

What is the difference between the two when photographing, viewing on a computer monitor, and printing? Which is better to use?
So in situations where a regular inkjet/laserjet printing method is used, sRGB is best?

I tried an experiment where I took 2 of the same photo, with the different colour space settings. They looked different on my computer but printed the same off my printer - according to Wikipedia, the printer colour space is smaller than both sRGB and Adobe RGB - does this mean that sRGB is simply a better representation of what results you get with average printing process?

A. If you shoot Jpeg you are using sRGB as does your monitor unless you have a very expensive one. The older CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors will be sRGB, most LCD monitors have a norrower colour gamut, but they are improving all the time.

Some of the more up to date R series Epson printers can reproduce the wider colour gamut of Adobe RGB which will give you brighter blues and reds which is why they have the extra cartridges to accommodate it. Adobe RGB will not be the default setting you have to select it from the driver, Epson assume you are using Jpeg which is only 8bit and for Adobe RGB you need 10bit at least.

You can only take advantage of the wider colour palette of Adobe RGB by printing yourself and using Tiff or PSD as your saved format or using a commercial printer that can handle Tiffs, and even here their printers might still be sRGB, but an increasing amount of commercial printers are offering the Adobe colour space.

There are not many things in nature that require the Adobe colour space may be a few bright red flowers. With man made items such as brightly painted objects, bright red or blue anoraks etc. it will make a difference to prints of these.

Monitor Calibration?

Q. Can an LCD computer monitor be calibrated? I had a Spyder Pro2 and went through the whole process three times. Each time, everything turned a not so lovely shade of blue. I gave up and sold the Spyder on eBay. I have since read that you can't really calibrate an LCD monitor.

What's your experience with this?

Thanks.
MoJo, I did it a couple of the three times with the room lights off, but the results were the same. "I got the blues."

A. Yes you can but not as well on LCD monitors. When I bought a Spyder I went crazy and calibrated about 10 monitor (my 3 computer) and my friends 4 work computer (then few more elsewhere).

What I found was that CRT monitors are fairly easy to calibrate. And even the cheap CRT have very good color space. The LCD monitors are not easy to calibrate at all. I had to play with many settings BEFORE starting the LCD calibration. And if they didn't look right, I would have to play with LCD monitor setting and start the calibrations again. Some LCD monitors never look really good (exact) no matter what.

Then again on my real cheapy (Averatec) laptop, I was able to get top color quality the very first time. I mean the best of ALL the monitors (CRT or LCD).

On my photoshop workstation, I use a cheap $90 CRT because I can't afford a expensive LCD (ex: Apple) monitor. But even the cheap $90 CRT is far superior to most LCD monitors.

So in summary, you can calibrate LCD with mixed result. Some LCD are easier to calibrate but most are very difficult.

Good Luck.

Monitor Color Calibration?
Q. what type of monitor color calibration do you use, or do you just leave it alone?

A. I use the Spyder3 Elite. http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-mc-s3elite.php It has good reviews and the price is decent. It does monitors (both CRT & LCD), laptops, and projectors.

Every now and then the question "why doesn't an image look the same when I put it on a friends monitor?" or "when I had photos printed, they don't look like they do on my computer" appears on Y!A...the answer is always monitor calibration.

Some key tips on calibration:
1) have the monitor on and in use for at least 30 minutes
2) avoid direct light on the screen when calibrating (can you see any light reflecting on the screen?) I turn off overhead lights and shut the shades on the windows.

LCD or LED pc monitor for gaming?

Q. I plan on getting a 30' monitor which one LCD or LED for gaming?

A. They will both be LCD - that's the display technology that all flatscreen monitors use.
LED or not is to do with the backlighting.

The LED one uses LED lights as the backlight
The non-LED one used a fluorescent light as the backlight.

It is more important to choose one with a good contrast ratio and fast reponse time.
Monitors with slow response times will show a ghosted blurry image in fast moving screen action. Monitors with low contrast ratio will have blacks that are dark grey and colours that look washed out.

Ideally you want a high contrast ratio, a fast response time and LED backlight.

Does LCD monitors improves FRAME RATE for Video games?
Q. I am using a CRT. I have heard that VERTICAL SYNC has something to do with CRT technology. So do I need to buy an LCD?

A. yes, LCD will ALWAYS have a faster refresh rate than CRT, BUT, it won't improve your frame rate. a graphics card will do that, try buying hig-end graphics cards like the Nvidia 260gtx, it will do the job

Help with my Samsung SyncMaster P2450H TFT LCD 24" HDMI Monitor?

Q. I'm wanting my screen resolution to be 1920 x 1050 to be the recommended setting for my computer but when I change the screen resolution my start bar and icons are off the screen. I've gone in to the screen menu and tried to change the "Size and Position" but that doesn't help. So any idea's?

A. Standard HDMI or DVI resolution for that monitor is 1920x1080, not 1920x1050. Try that resolution and you might get all the image on the screen. If still a problem, you have "overscan" on the screen, try modifying with the video system settings. Since that video system is your secret, you are on your own. No good guess possible to tell you how.
If you are using VGA cable hookup, I don't know what resolution you should try. Look that up in the user guide of the monitor.

Connecting Xbox 360 to 24" LCD monitor?
Q. im getting a free 24" monitor with a computer im purchasing soon. I currently have a 22" lcd monitor that connects to my 360 using VGA cable from microsoft without any problems. i've heard that there could be some issues with 'stretching' when using HDMI cables for 24" monitors that dont have1:1 pixel mapping, since lcd monitors are 16:10. i plan on using the same VGA connection. is there going to be an issue with stretching since my monitor wont have pixel mapping? please advise.

A. I wouldn't recomend it but it is not likely your moniter will have a problem, but their is a small chance and if you decide to do so just be very careful and hope it doesn't ruin your monitor.

Just use a TV like everyone else.

Buying a New LCD monitor/eyes?

Q. I work about 16 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week on the computer. I am going to buy a new 19" LCD monitor (ditching the 17" crt) What should I consider since I am on the computer so much? I am 40+ and don't really want to destroy my eyes or walk around with bags under my eyes all the time due to eyestrain? Well, I look forward to your input. :)
What would be considered an optimal refresh rate?

A. GO for a LCD, crt are of the past.

LED or LCD monitor - which is better for the eyes?
Q. Hi,

So recently I have been experiencing eye-strain but I have to use my computer (I'm a freelance front-end web developer). I currently have a monitor that is a few years old. It's a Dell 20" Flat Panel Display LCD monitor (Model no: SP2008wfP). I'm wondering if an upgrade would improve it even slightly? If so which monitor should I get;

- Samsung S22b150n 21.5" LED Monitor

or

- Samsung S24b150b 24" LED Monitor

A. Personally when choosing monitors I would go with a LED over a LCD just by preference.

Going in deeper though any monitor is no better than any other when it comes to eye damage, as none actually cause eye damage. Unless your using a Radioactive screen (which in that case you've got other problems) your fine.

What you really want to focus on is the power, and managing the nature of the lighting efficiency.

Hope this helped.

A. Yes you can.

The Mac Mini (I'm assuming you are talking about the latest Mac Mini model) has an HDMI port.

You will need to buy an HDMI cable to connect the Mac Mini's HDMI port to that monitor's HDMI input.

The Best LCD Monitor For Gaming, Movies And Internet?
Q. For a few months now I've been glued to the ViewSonic VX2025wm as the number one to get. Great for all of the above, solid reponse time and contrast ratio and widescreen. But I was wondering maybe something better will emerge soon, within a few months or is even already out now.

By the way I am looking for an LCD, 20"-21", widescreen and good for all the above. Also I believe there is a solid line between monitors for business, graphic design, etc and the rest of the things I mentioned. By the way what would widescreen essientally mean for pc monitor? Do you agree it is better?

A. I haven't had a problem with any of the Dell monitors, for gaming or otherwise. Some video and photo editing monitors are special for their color handling and reproduction abilities, like you mentioned.

Widescreen is the aspect ratio between the height and width of the screen. Regular is more square while widescreen is more rectangular. For instance, 1600x1200 is a standard resolution, while 1920x1200 would be widescreen.

White vertical lines on an LCD monitor?

Q. Hi there-

Recently one of my monitors has started malfunctioning.

All dark colors are replaced with shimmering white vertical lines, making text unreadable and normal operation impossible.

The monitor is connected with a DVI connection. It still has the same problem when connected to other computers.

Should I bring it in for repair? Would this kind of malfunction even be fixable?

A. It may be fixable, but likely not worth the money unless it's a very large, very new monitor. It'll probably cost a couple hundred bucks unless it's still under warranty.

xbox 360 to lcd monitor?
Q. whats the best way to connect my xbox 360 pro to my 19" LCD widescreen computer monitor? (the monitor has 1 vga input and 1 dvi input currently used by my computer)

i ordered the vga cable on trademe (similar to ebay) to find that i just got a 3rd party vga hd av cable (i think that's what its called)

should i return it and get an official one from town or buy a hdmi to dvi cable, also which resolutions would the hdmi to dvi support?

A. Just use the VGA cable. HDMI is not really necessary on the XBox anyway since it does not have anything that requires HDCP.

Give the third-party cable a try. If it works, no sense spending more money for the Microsoft cable.

Is there any way to crop a monitor screen?

Q. Hello,

Im making a diy projector (the lcd and overhead projector method) and I am having trouble finding a 14" monitor which is the size of the projector bed. So anything bigger will overlap over the projector and therefore not be projected.

I can find a 15" monitor however. So is there any way to change the size of the display so that I dont loose anything when being projected.

Thanks

A. don't know if you're looking for a lcd video wall display?
using lcd video wall we can display one image signal to display on the whole screens, also support input each screen different signals and open windows in each screen.

Projector Fan: Noisy, what to do?
Q. Hello.

I recently purchased a projector that uses the DIY computer monitor kind of method, and it has all been working fine but its got one little problem, it's really really noisy.

It's got 3 fans:

. one at the front which isn't a problem.
. one to circulate air between the LCD which i'm replacing with a silent computer one.
. one at the back that takes hot air from the bulb and blows it out the back, it's called a (centrifugal fan or a squirrel cage fan) and it's really loud, here's some pics to show how its placed in the projector.

http://img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fannq8.jpg

These types of fans seem hard to find on the internet, so i think i'll need some kind of alternative or a muffling device. Also, i was thinking when the air comes out the exhaust and hits the plastic grills, thats making noise, so maybe i could cut the grills and that would stop some noise, but i don't really want to damage the case.

any ideas would be great?

Thank you

A. See this site:

It is in french but I think you will find an english translated part.Anyway the photos will help you decide what is better for your projector!!!

windows 7 monitor issue?
Q. I plugged in and old monitor in to my laptop running windows 7 and turned it on and it is my main display but i cant get it back to the laptop screen. The laptop screen comes on for the bios loading but when the logon screen comes on it switches off and goes to the 2nd display I have tried restarting without the 2nd display plugged in but the laptop screen still goes black on the log screen. My graphics card is a ati radon xpress 200 if anyone knows were i could get the ati controller for the driver from like i had in xp i think i could fix it. Any ideas would help.
I tried that button it just turned the 2nd display off and on.
I fixed it I had to uninstall and reinstall the vga driver from device manager.

A. There should be a key on your computer that's labeled as function (fn). If you hold that you should be able to press F8 (most likely). It should either say CRT/LCD on it in the same color ad the fn button, or it should have a picture of a square/rectangle with a slash "/" and another square/rectangle. Press that once with fn held down, see what happens.. if it flickers and changes but isn't what you want, just keep doing that until it goes back to normal. That's usually the way to change between the display modes. If not, try right clicking on the desktop, go to Personalize, then change resolution. It should show both monitors and you can chose "Extend my display onto this monitor" or "Make this my primary display". Play with those options, you should be able to get it back to ordinary using one of those methods.

which is the best inexpensive LCD monitor for video editing.?

Q. I am about to purchase a larger monitor than my current 17 inch CRT monitor. I would like to change to a 19 or 20 inch LCD. The main use would be for photo editing using adobe photoshop CS and video editing using Adobe elements

A. Well the monitiors that I use with my Mac G5 are from Sams Club. I bought the Samsung Sync Master916v. I set them as a Dual Display setup side by side and they work GREAT. To my knowledge they were less then $300.00 each. Plus they come with a full 1 year return policy from Sams not including the warranty from Samsung..

How do I hook up 2 LCD's for trading in the markets?
Q. Hi, I got 2 brand new LCD monitors. Now I want to hook them up for trading. How do I do this? Am I going to need 2 separate video cards? I want the displays to show different information on each screens - not share a desktop.
My video card doesn't have two video outs. It's about 3 years old. I can't afford a new desktop. Anything I can do with what I already have?
I don't have PCI-E on this desktop, but maybe AGP - have to check. If I don't have PCI-E or AGP, am I needing to fork out some cash for a new desktop? (Major ouch)

A. You need a video card that can support two monitors.

The majority of current video cards out there support dual monitors-- They have two video output jacks, either two DVI, or one DVI / one VGA.

If all you are going to do is run your online trading software, then just get something like this if you have PCI Express: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161219

Or something like this if you have AGP: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102814

With a video card that supports two monitors, all you have to do is go into Display Properties in Windows and set it to run in extended desktop mode, and the two monitors will be able to display different information on each screen.

EDITED TO ADD: If your computer has a PCI Express 16x slot or an AGP slot, you don't need a new computer. Just buy a new video card. Both video cards I linked to for you cost under $100. About what you would pay for a single share of AAPL or IBM. :-D
