Best deal on a LCD monitor?

Q. I am looking to replace my current 19in Flat screen with an LCD monitor. I am leaning towards an ACER or a Hanns.G. Where is the best deal or what monitor would you recommend?
I am willing to purchase online or in a retail location.

A. Acer Monitor

What's the smallest LCD HDTV with 1080P?
Q. Here's the deal: I do a lot of graphics work on two monitors that are side by side. One of them is a 24" CRT and the other is a 17" LCD. The LCD broke the other day so it's time to get a new one. However, I want to get an LCD HDTV instead. That way, I can chuck my ten year old TV and clear up more space in my room. Problem is that I haven't been able to find an LCD with 1080P under 32". I can probably fit anything 30" and under on my desk. This would be used as the second monitor to the CRT and as a TV/video gaming (PS3/XB360). I need that 1920x1080 resolution for my work, so please leave comments about 1080P being useless on screens smaller than 42" and etc at the front door. A 720P resolution just won't cut it. Also, I will only be a foot or two away from the screen, so I will be able to tell the difference in image. Any help? And does anyone have a 1080P TV that is below 32"?

A. There are many 19201200 WUXGA monitors in the 19- to 30-inch size rangeparticularly in the 23/24- and 26/27-inch classesthat are capable of functioning as a 1080p Full HD display. Finding full blown 1080p HDTVs in the same size range is still fairly difficult though a few new models are slowly beginning to trickle out. For what its worth many experts and enthusiasts believe the ultimate WUXGA/1080p monitor/HDTV in the 19- to 30-inch size range will utilize one of the various IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD panel technologies, i.e., S-IPS, AS-IPS, H-IPS, etc., along with the obligatory overdrive technology to reduce panel response times. Included in the list below are several FPDs that utilize in-plane switching LCD panels.

The features that I believe are important in a high performance, fixed-pixel, HD flat panel display are: adjustable gamma control (preferably over the range of gamma values from 2.0 to 2.6,) good black level performance, rapid panel response time (16 ms or less - worst case measured response time,) good screen uniformity, 1:1 pixel mapping, native 1080p24 support, true 10-bit panel technology, accurate gray-scale and color reproduction including support for full display calibration for each input, fully HDCP compliant, HDMI/DVI AND VGA inputs (YPbPr component video inputs would also be a welcome addition,) and above all highly effective video and image processing. (In addition, with all things being equal I prefer LCD monitors or HDTVs that use RGB LED back-light units rather than the standard fluorescent lamp-based BLUs.)

With so many new high resolution, HD displays in the 19- to 30-inch size range it remains difficult to narrow-down the field of choices to a select few. Starting with the list below I recommend that you attempt to narrow the selection using your own criteria and then visit nearby dealers to thoroughly evaluate the chosen displays on your short-list.

Below is a brief list of 22- to 27-inch class WUXGA/1080p displays currently available from which one or more models should meet most of your requirements.

In Floor LCD Monitor?

Q. I am building a bar and have a couple spare LCD monitors that I have acquired. I would like to construct the bar with the screens under the bar oriented face up covered by a hard clear plastic or glass and linked to a dual video multimedia PC housed under the bar. Will LCDs function in that orientation for a good amount of time or will they not work after long? I would of course have plenty of ventilation and airflow through the area. I have only seen documentation on Ceiling mounting for LCDs, but never for floor mounting style. Any ideas?

A. Should work just fine. I suggest instead of just covering thiem in plexiglass, that you mount one piece of plexiglass across the LCD itself, and then mount it inside the bar side. That way the monitor is completely inside the bar but the screen acts as part of the bar "wall". People will be able to see it and you won't have to worry about anything touching it (including drinks ;-)). I've mounted LCD's in just about every position in a lot of places (even INSIDE desktop computers). They're pretty easy.

LCD monitor problems?
Q. My 25 inch monitor will at time flash off and hard to get the monitor to work again. Sometimes also get "No single", seem also that in one corner of back (vent) will get really hot) how do you solve this problem. what causes the monitor to just go black?

A. The vents usually do get pretty hot on the LCD monitors, so you shouldn't need to worry about that. The "No Signal" might mean that a video cable is just coming loose, so check that first.

Suddenly having it shut off on you might be caused by overheating however, or a problem with the power inverter board, which supplies power to the TV and backlights. Sometimes overheating can be caused by mounting the TV, say, above the fireplace and the heat rising from it makes it burn out. Either way, it's a hardware issue you're looking at.

If it's under warranty, get it repaired. Otherwise, you're more than likely looking at replacing the power board inside the TV, which varies in price.

One of these problems is especially likely if, after the TV shuts off on you, you let it sit for 10 minutes to cool off and then it powers back on on your first try.

Cleaning spilled liquids form LCD monitors?

Q. Well last-night my dumb girlfriend opened a can of pop and it sprayed all over the LCD screen. I got most of the pop off of the screen but, I have to get some cleaner looks like to get the smudges off of the screen and the left over pop. What I wanted to know is, Will the pop that got on the screen mess up the screen or will it come right off when i get the LCD cleaner. Name of the pop is: Caffeine Free Twist Up Lemon Lime.

A. All LCD monitors have to be glazed with a thin protection film across the screen to confirm to a few laws regarding Health & Safety guidelines at home and in a workplace.

The best solution, as stupid as it sounds, is vinegar and water. Vinegar is an acid and has many properties in it that clean many surfaces and spillages and works wonders with glass and abrasive/non-abrasive surfaces.

Make sure you have white vinegar, other vinegars have different levels of acidity. And make sure you dillute the vinegar with water before use to ensure the acidity levels are stable enough for everyday cleaning use.

Try it out, see if it works!
Google is always there for confirming recommendations like this, so don't take my word for it.
Search Google or Yahoo! for further information..

How do I clean my TFT (LCD) computer monitor?
Q. I have a 17 inches TFT (LCD) monitor. The picture quality is great. But accidentally a few drops of water fell onto the screen. I wiped them off very lightly and now several markings are visible on the screen and are giving it a somewhat untidy appearance which highly annoys me since my monitor is otherwise very sleek and great to look at. How do I get rid of them and how should I clean my monitor in order to ensure proper maintenance? I have heard that rubbing is a strict no-no in TFTs. Else, how do I clean them?

A. I can tell you right off there is a specific cleaner you need to use. Most FlatPanels have a protective coating on the screen itself and if you try to use a normal glass cleaner things are going to get messy in a hurry. I'm not sure where you can buy this cleaner, i'll do some searching online and see what turns up. And again, dont for the love of al l thats holy try to clean that with standard glass cleaner

How do you set the color settings for a lcd monitor.?

Q. I had to reload the video drivers for my laptop. Now the color is not displaying correctly, i.e. what should be black appears white, and vice versa, none of the colors are displaying correctly. I tried to adjust the color in the display settings, it has gotten a little better but I cannot seem to find the right combination.

A. Comsult your user's manual. If you don't have one, look it up on the LCD manufacturer's website in their support area.

Generally there's a "menu" button on your LCD monitor. Push that once, then look for a icon that either says temperature, or an icon that kinda looks like a thermometer.

Select that and cycle betweeon the different color ranges like 9xxx 6xxx and user.

Good Luck

What is the best monitor, or monitor settings to stop eyestrain?
Q. I am suffering from eye strain. I work all day on the computer, and take regular breaks, but my eyes are suffering at the moment. I am using a monitor that is 17" diagonal flat screen. I have turned the brightness down and the contrast, which helps a little.
I'm wondering if I should use a newer larger monitor?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks it is a Dell monitor 17". I can't see the model anywhere, but there is a series of no. on the back:
CN OY441764180 589 2X9C thanks!

A. flatscreen lcd's are the best

the screen should be PIN sharp, with NO noticeable flickering
and there should be NO vagueness around character edges.
using a magnifying glass, you should be able to see individual pixels
that are Sharply defined. if not, then suspect that your settings are wrong
each monitor has a single IDEAL setting
this has varied over the years as design progress is made.

make certain you are using the IDEAL setting for this monitor.
we cant guess, each one is different but you could ask another question

note: almost all monitors have a menu button, or button combination
that shows the current screen settings and status check that and state that too.

the worst monitors are those that run at 60hz as this may tune itself in to
other lights in the room.modern low power light bulbs can have undesired effects
old filament lights are much better.
strip lights are a complete no no.

so you see the strain is caused by interacting with ambient lighting.

monitors that operate at 85hz often look the best.

most monitors have a system of 3 settings for colour strength, running between
cool and hot choosing a cooler scheme may help

Gaming monitor help please?

Q. So am gonna buy a ps4 and since my 40" bravia is ****** up am thinking of buying a led or LCD monitor with HDMI input and 1080p i did some research and saw that ps3 had problems running on 1080p monitors will ps4 have that issue ? And will any monitor with HDMI input will work on ps4? Am getting gaming headphones so built in sound monitors are a waste of money for me.. i Want to be clear that ps4 won't have any issue running on 1080p monitors and will any monitor with HDMI input work with ps4...

A. PS4 will not have any problems with running on 1080p, you can be certain of that. They'd be digging their own grave if they were trying to release a game platform in 2013 that can't even run on full resolution.

Difference between LCD(or Plasma) HDTV Monitor or TV?
Q. Is it really as simple as the monitor doesn't have tuner? Why is a monitor so much cheaper than a TV? Why would I buy a monitor over a TV(Pro's and Con's).

A. HD monitor: This is a monitor that is capable of showing at least 720p signals natively, which is the minimum to be considered HD. Because they lack built-in TV tuners of any kind, however, they can only officially be called "monitors." But since most people get their HD programming from their cable or satellite operator, the increasingly scarce HD monitor can be a great value.

HD-ready TVs: The jury's still out on what exactly this means, but loosely and generally this refers either to an HD monitor with no tuners whatsoever or to a TV that can accept and display HD signals of at least 720p but has only an NTSC (standard TV) tuner built in. Again, since they lack the built-in HD tuner, these TVs are often a decent bang for the buck. The FCC has mandated that all TVs over 25 inches must now have built-in HD tuners, so it's increasingly hard to find large-screen HD-ready TVs, but deals abound online.

HDTV: This is a TV that can natively show at least 720p signals and has built-in NTSC (standard) and ATSC (HD) tuners, so you can grab over-the-air HD signals using an antenna. This knocks up the price a bit, but the advantage is you can use things like HD-ready CableCards and other space-saving technologies.

-----

If you subscrible to cable or satellite, you'll be fine getting an HD monitor and saving some cash. If you plan to use an antenna to snag over-the-air HD broadcasts, you'll want to get an HDTV so as not to have to purchase the necessary tuner.

What is the Best Lcd Tv-PC Monitor,,, 22-24 inch and not more than $700 ,, thanks?

Q. what makes lcd monitor a good one ,,,
what should i look for when buying new lcd
Details please explain as much as you can
thanks alot in advance

A. Gateway which just got acquired by ACER makes a really Superb 24" LCD HD Monitor with analog component inputs, HDMI, DVI and VGA Inputs as well as Composite and S-Video Inputs. The only thing it doesn't have is an ATSC Tuner. It's a monitor not a HDTV but it's the closest thing to an HDTV you can get without the Tuner being built in.
I have a 24" one and a 19" one, theyre the previous models to the ones that are out now. (Mine is FPD2485W) List price is about $500, online you can get 'em for alot less. They also make a 30" one that can do 1600p resolution but it's $1699.

the 2 main specifications of an LCD display that you will see is Brightness (may be described as NITS) and contrast
(usually expressed as a ratio).
more recent displays will advertise a contrast ratio of "2000:1" or "3000:1" and big displays might even advertise "7000:1" (Samsung) or "15000:1" (Sharp)
but in those cases the contrast ratio is the result of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and isn't a true contrast meaure like you'd get on a CRT-Tube display.

Generally speaking the higher the contrast ratio the better, the higher the brightness the better. Also, LCD's have a narrower viewing angle, that is to say that if you're too far off to one side or the other the picture gets crappy looking and this is common from brand to brand and sceen size is not relevant. Plasmas aren't as bad at that but use 2X the power as LCD.

Good Luck!

Need help in choosing 24 in LED or LCD monitor?
Q. trying to buy a monitor for gaming and viewing movies. I want a 24 in monitor. either SAMSUNG P2450H vs LG W2486L. The LG is LED while the Samsung is a LCD. which one would ya get an why. Also are these monitor 1080p? need advice

A. I would go with the SAMSUNG P2450H, it has a lower dot pitch and it's brighter.
I've used both LED and LCD monitors although not the models you listed. Personally I have preferred the LCD monitors because the colors look better. I know the LED monitor manufacturers claim that they have better color quality but the ones I have had always have to be adjusted and I never seem to be able to get them quite right.

A good monitor for consoles?

Q. I'm in need of a new monitor for video editing, PS3 console gaming, and as a good display here is what Im looking for:

I have a 15 inch 2012 macbook pro that i invested heavily in as a student, and my primary focus for a monitor is one that I will be satisfied for years to come, until I decide it's time to move on. As for price, I will go as high as it takes, but since I'm a kid under $200 is looking very nice for me. I don't have a lot of know how on gaming monitors and I need one that can work with an el gato capture card, as well as has the proper cables/inputs for my mac. I've been told for console gaming you'd want to stay off of a monitor and for tv, but I think thats BS because computer monitors have a lot lower input lag then a tv would, which is important for a fast game like call of duty. But I really dont know, My primary need is a good screen to edit on, but it needs to be able to work with my el gato/ps3 setup I got going. Links, youtube videos, and thoughts on your own brand of monitor would be greatly appreciated. I don't know where to start my research, maybe someone can steer me in the right direction

I found this monitor, and it seems to be really good. A little too good for the price. I'm not sure what I'm missing with it. If you guys can check it out, tell me what you think: Thanks!!

is SAMSUNG LCD MONITOR really good?

Q. i want to know, is BW1931+(19") nice choice?

A. "Samsung" LCD Monitors are Quality brand everybody knows that....

Durability is one of the reasons why do people
trust this company...Tho!!

Actually my family owned several "Samsung" T.V. for so many years now still don't have any problem with it...

Just giving you small thoughs of Durability is...

"Samsung 940 BW" with 4Ms response time is one of the best "LCD" monitors in the market today....

But if you are into "Gaming and Video" get a faster Response time you could find such as 2 Ms..

Just to prevent Ghosting and Blurring.....

I could recomend another brand that is also good despite of it's price also has the same Specs with the branded ones...

"View Sonic" great reviews on this product also proven Quality....

It was my 2nd choice when I get my "Samsung 940 BW" 19" LCD monitor...

Don't have any problem with it until now ...

Hope this gives you a little Info...

Can you use a computer LCD monitor with the xbox 360?
Q.

A. Yes, 100%.you can use your computer LCD monitor with the xbox360 and the great news is that you will will get HD graphics on ur LCD monitor.but brother you have to buy a XBOX360 VGA HD AV cable to use it .

It cost 18 dollars .its not $40 .it was 40 when it first came to the market but now its 18 dollars.

There is no problem with the video connection .bcz you can connect it to your LCD monitor directly with the help of XBOX360 VGA HD AV CABLE.

But there is a problem with audio output .you must have a surround system speakers or other speakers to which the audio jacks should be connected and the audio jacks are the ones which comes with AV cable.i mean you must have the speakers which must have the input ports for the audio jacks i have mentioned.

I am also using my LCD monitor.

I hope this will help you my brother.

Take care bro.

Widescreen LCD monitor questions?

Q. People look fatter when I view them from my widescreen LCD monitor. Is there a way to make it look normal? Also, what is Hz? Mine is set to 75Hz. There's 60, 70, and 75. What's that?

Thanks!

A. The reason people look fatter is because your display adapter is in a non widescreen resolution.

The resolution of your display is specified in pixels width * height. Non widescreen monitors use a ration of 4:3 between width and height whereas widescreen monitors use a ratio of 16:9. When the wide screen monitor tries to display the 4:3 image it stretches it sideways to fit the 16:9 screen hence the people look fat.

Chances are your current display settings are 4:3 which will be someting like 1024x768 or 1280x960.

You can change this to a widescreen setting in Windows.

Right click on an unused area of your desktop and select properties from the pop up menu.

This will bring up the display properties panel, go to the settings panel and use the screen resolution slider to select a resolution where the ratio between width and height is 16:9 e.g 1280x1024 would be a good starting point .

Click the apply button then click OK in the dialog box which pops up on the screen.

The Hz setting is the refresh rate of the monitor, this is how many times it redraws the screen in a second. So 60 Hz = 60 refreshes per second while 70 Hz = 70 refreshes per second. Higher settings give less flicker, however you may find that it is fine at 60Hz.

A. The samsung is better. When looking at LCD monitors, the higher contrast ratio and the faster response time are both important factors. Samsung also has a good reputation for video products.

Cheap HDMI Field Monitor?

Q. Is there any cheap HDMI field monitor, for under 100$ preferably? At least 7"

A. There is nothing "cheap" about HDMI field monitors, but for around $200 you can find a number of them

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=hdmi+field+monitor&tag=mh0b-20&index=electronics&hvadid=1675750756&ref=pd_sl_4qji5j6alk_e

But for any quality, you need to consider something like this

http://www.coollcd.com/ruige-tls701hda-7-oncamera-hd-lcd-field-monitor-for-dslr-canon-5d-7d-hd-video-cameras_p811.html

You did not mention if you were using this monitor with a dSLR. If so, you need to spend some time on this link

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/camcorders/cam-cam.shtml

And this

By the time you add all the accessories necessary to make your dSLR a viable video camera, you could buy a real video camera

What's the difference between a CANON EOS 20D and 30D?
Q. I know that 30D is updated but what features does it have that a 20D doesn't?

A. The Canon EOS 30D is a mild evolution of the 20D.

New features / changes compared to the EOS 20D:

- Redesigned body (more EOS 5D like)
- Larger LCD monitor (2.5")
- Soft-touch shutter release button
- AE/AF lock remains set if shutter is kept half-pressed between shots
- Faster startup and wake from sleep times
- Direct print button on rear of camera (woo!)
- Spot metering
-100,000 shot shutter cycle
- ISO selectable in third stop steps
- ISO speed shown in viewfinder as you change it (still not once changed though)
- Selectable 5 or 3 fps continuous shooting
- PictureStyles instead of simple image parameters
- 9,999 images per folder (instead of 100 as per the EOS 20D)
- 15 menu languages (3 new)

You can read more about it here:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06022114canoneos30d.asp

And here, to compare the two cameras:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=10464

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=12929

In any case, they both have 8.2 Megapixels and the difference isn't that big. The 30D is about $300 more expensive (prices taken from amazon.com, but it varies according to the stores). So, if you are going to buy your first digital SLR, a 20D will do, in my opinion. I know professionals who use a 20D (the 30D is new). But if you want to go professional and you are willing to invest more money, a 30D might be a better choice.

LED Backlight LCD Monitors vs LED Monitors?

Q. Can someone tell me the difference between an LED Backlight LCD Monitor and a plain LED Monitor? I am looking for a monitor with the least amount of flicker due to an eye problem I have. The flicker causes A LOT of strain on my eyes. Would the LED monitor have even less flicker than the LED Backlight LCD Monitor?

THANKS!

A. led /lcd monitors are the same
having said that some have a better refresh rate than others
most are 50 to 60 hz
update image every 50 to 60 times a second
look for one the will refresh at 75 hz to 84hz will cost slightly more
but you not notice any flicker
the newer ones say they refresh at 200hz and some 600hz a bit over the top for a standard monitor
more for the 3d age
an example 22inch samsung

difference B/W LCD monitor & LCD tv?
Q. i want to buy lcd (max 22") for watching movies as i currently see on my CRT monitor.MY question is what is best way of getting good picture quality LCD or LCD monitor ?

A. Well, and LCD "monitor" will require a TV tuner to receive a
picture. An LCD TV has a built-in TV tuner so you won't need
any outboard tuner (i.e. a stand-alone television).

My choice for best LCD picture is from Sony. I believe they
even have a 23" HDTV. A bit more expensive, but if you
appreciate a great picture, it is worth the extra investment.
Others to consider include Sharp and Panasonic for a 22".

Lcd Monitors?

Q. What does contrast ratio mean concerning Lcd computer monitors I've been looking to buy one and the only difference is the contrast ratio one says 600:1 contrast ration and the other 650:1 which one is better?

A. Contrast ratio is a measure between the brightest whites and blackest blacks. Higher is better. Contrast ratio is about the only weakness LCD has compared to CRT.

Contrast ratio is especially noticable when watching full-screen video. A lower contrast ratio will look less detailed in darker areas and the picture will look "washed out" and not very realistic. 600 or 650 aren't great specs these days... I'd look for at least 800 if you'll be watching any video on the monitor and want the best video quality... It wouldn't be that important for just web surfing, most gaming, etc... Barely noticeable...

My monitor is a little older and has a contrast ratio around 600. Video does NOT look impressive at all and I often think of upgrading. One of these days...

I'd say a higher contrast ratio is more important to picture quality than a higher brightness number... unless you'll be using the monitor in bright light... then brightness is important too... A shorter response time is also desirable for the best gaming and full motion video quality. 8ms is very acceptable and most monitors on the market now will meet that spec or be even faster (lower number).

lcd monitors ?
Q. i have a samsung crt monitor and am planning to buy an lcd monitor ! how do i know if my system would be compatible with it ??? i have a intel d101ggc mobo [ integrated graphics ] .wat would be the price ?

A. If your connectors are the same you should have no issue. Not all LCD monitors or graphic cards support both DVI and VGA so you might need to get an adapter or just match your connectors.

Now your graphics card might not be able to optimally handle your LCD monitor but that's usually on the higher end LCD monitor. For instance, your graphics card may only be able to display 1024x768 while your LCD monitor may be able to handle much higher resolutions (this isn't a problem for lower end LCD monitors).

So worst case scenario is you pay for a premium LCD monitor but could have gotten away with a cheaper LCD monitor and get the same quality (but not be as future proof).

Multi-Monitor Display?

Q. I am looking for a four monitor quad display like I have seen on Wall street. I am a Day Trader and I've been reading a lot of articles about how Multiple Monitors increase productivity, but they never say where to get the proper equipment. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I'd love to setup a multi-monitor display as soon as possible. thanks.

A. Hey, I asked a very similar question a few weeks ago and several people directed me to http://Multi-Monitors.com. I actually bought the same multi-monitor display you are looking for. Here is a link to the multi-monitor displays:

http://www.multi-monitors.com/SUPER_PC_Multi_Screen_LCD_Displays_Multi_Monitor_Arrays_s/21.htm

Also, here's the computer I got if interested:

You have to get a computer that can support four monitors.

Multi monitor display on laptop using DVI cable?
Q. what software do i need and what do i do to use use multi monitor display using a laptop as the primary computer and i have a DVI to DVI cable

A. Maybe this article will help you out...

The Three main ways to Setup Multiple Monitors

1) You can buy a pre-manufactured multiple monitor computer. The best place to purchase a multiple monitor computer is at: http://Multi-Monitors.com. They carry a multi-monitor computer line called SUPER PC that can support from 2 to 12 monitors (or more if you ask).

Multiple Monitor Computers

Multiple Monitor LCD Displays
http://www.multi-monitors.com/SUPER_PC_Multi_Monitors_com_Multi_Screen_LCD_Displays_s/21.htm

2) You can get a USB to VGA Adapter, or USB to DVI Adapter that will allow you to add an extra monitor to your computer via any USB2.0 Port. You can also add multiple extra monitors by using multiple adapters. This is a great option for viewing documents, surfing the web, using Microsoft Office and many other business tasks. This is not a good option for intense graphical situations such as HDTV, Blu-ray, Gaming and 3D / CAD Workstation applications. For those types of scenarios, it is highly recommended that you purchase a high-powered multi-monitor workstation or a Matrox Dual or Triple Head2Go.

Multiple Monitor Adapters
http://www.multi-monitors.com/SUPER_PC_Multi_Monitors_com_Multi_Screen_USB_Adapters_s/22.htm

3) You can replace or add an extra video card to your existing computer, depending on how many monitors you wish to support. Although this sounds easy enough, this is a rather complex solution for a beginner, especially when trying to find a compatible graphics card. For this reason, I am going to write an entirely seperate post on that topic and will link to it here, very soon.

Once you have your multiple monitor system set up and ready to use, you will need to enable all of your monitors in your Display Properties Control Panel. Here is a great link to a complete and animated walkthrough of how to enable your multiple monitors in Windows.

What would cause white horizontal bands on JVC GR-D33U digital camera LCD monitor?
Q. Our JVC GR-D33U Camcorder is almost two years old, and all of a sudden the LCD monitor has begun acting up (see link below for reference photos).

We get horizontal, white bands on a darkened (black) monitor. Occasionally we'll get a clear picture, but only for about 5 minutes before the white bands return. Other times the monitor will look like a distorted black and white picture wherein no object can clearly be seen, but the shape of what's on the screen will shift (reminds me of a less grainy ultrasound picture).

When the camcorder is initially powered on, sometimes the monitor will
read "LENS CAP", indicating that the lens cap needs to be removed, even
though it already has been. View monitor: http://www.users.qwest.net/~rnapoli/jvcGR-D33U.html

A. Factory trained camera tech here. I own one of these cameras and they are actually quite good for their price.

However, several recent models of JVC camcorders had an inherent defect from the factory, including the GR-D33US. The defect caused a high failure rate of the (Sony-made) CCD image sensors in these cams. The symptoms on your webpage are typical of the failure. JVC has posted a notice on their website stating that they will cover this defect under an special warranty if the camera is sent directly to them. See the listed link below.

Also, the triangles you mention are the low-contrast indicators which show up if the camera cannot auto-focus. See page 31 of your owner's manual (available on the JVC website). With the CCD defect, of course, it cannot focus properly.

Good luck!

lcd monitor yellow helppp!!?

Q. When i turned my monitor on today it turned yellow. i checked if all the cable were in propely and it still didnt work. However i tested the monitor on a other computer it was fine. so it must be my CPU. so is by VGA port faulty. Could some please tell me how to fix it.
My monitor is a yuraku and it is a LCD.
i have seen another monitor on my comp and that turns yellow aswell so it is def the cpu

A. It sounds like your blue color is out. I have found that it is usually the cable connection that does that. Try completely removing the connector on both ends of the video cable and reattaching to pc and monitor to see if this helps. Also, if you have another video cable, try that or try another monitor on your pc to confirm that it is the pc's problem.

LCD Monitor problems?
Q. Aight, I got an LCD monitor with my DELL computer about 4 years ago, well, I knew that I should have gottern the extended warranty. the Monitor started turning on and off when the computer is turned on, however, when the computer is turned off, the light shows No Signal, then, when I turn the PC back on, it starts turning on and off again, I think its mainly a problem with the video input on the monitor itself.

A. How does a 3 year extended warranty help in your 4th year? It is always a gamble either way. I always recommend against BETTING against yourself.

Check to see if the switch is goofy. Hit it repeatedly to see if that is the source of the problem. One customer of mine had that problem, and we just TAPED it down, so it would stay on. (He uses a power strip anyway).

Then fiddle with the power cord connection. Maybe that is the source. If you have another power cord, try that. (I had an instance where the power cord was simply not making a good connection, and changing that did the trick).

If this continues to bug you, then consider getting a new one at http://www.newegg.com I recently bought a dozen 18 inch LCD monitors (Samsung) for under $200. They all are looking and working GREAT.

LCD Monitor?

Q. I just got a new widescreen LCD monitor. Want to know the right way to clear the screen?

A. Go to Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA etc. There are special pads (wipes) made for LCD monitors. Not too expensive either. NEVER use anything on an LCD with alcohol or ammonia. This will degrade the screen faster that you can say "oh crap!"

cleaning LCD monitor?
Q. i just got a new LCD monitor. there was a sheet of paper that came with it, that said we are not supposed to touch it because it could damage it. how, then, am i supposed to clean it when it gets dirty? any help appreciated. thank you.

A. It just means you're not supposed to touch it directly with your fingers, or apply too much pressure to it when cleaning etc.

There are plenty of cleaning solutions and "wet wipe" type products intended for cleaning LCD monitors, and most of them work just fine.
