In Floor LCD Monitor?

Q. I am building a bar and have a couple spare LCD monitors that I have acquired. I would like to construct the bar with the screens under the bar oriented face up covered by a hard clear plastic or glass and linked to a dual video multimedia PC housed under the bar. Will LCDs function in that orientation for a good amount of time or will they not work after long? I would of course have plenty of ventilation and airflow through the area. I have only seen documentation on Ceiling mounting for LCDs, but never for floor mounting style. Any ideas?

A. Should work just fine. I suggest instead of just covering thiem in plexiglass, that you mount one piece of plexiglass across the LCD itself, and then mount it inside the bar side. That way the monitor is completely inside the bar but the screen acts as part of the bar "wall". People will be able to see it and you won't have to worry about anything touching it (including drinks ;-)). I've mounted LCD's in just about every position in a lot of places (even INSIDE desktop computers). They're pretty easy.

Q. My 25 inch monitor will at time flash off and hard to get the monitor to work again. Sometimes also get "No single", seem also that in one corner of back (vent) will get really hot) how do you solve this problem. what causes the monitor to just go black?

A. The vents usually do get pretty hot on the LCD monitors, so you shouldn't need to worry about that. The "No Signal" might mean that a video cable is just coming loose, so check that first.

Suddenly having it shut off on you might be caused by overheating however, or a problem with the power inverter board, which supplies power to the TV and backlights. Sometimes overheating can be caused by mounting the TV, say, above the fireplace and the heat rising from it makes it burn out. Either way, it's a hardware issue you're looking at.

If it's under warranty, get it repaired. Otherwise, you're more than likely looking at replacing the power board inside the TV, which varies in price.

One of these problems is especially likely if, after the TV shuts off on you, you let it sit for 10 minutes to cool off and then it powers back on on your first try.

Computer monitor mounting?

Q. I have ordered a dual monitor mounting stand for my husband. It can hold two 27" monitors but they need the VESA fittings (four holes in the back).

What I'm trying to figure out is if the following monitor will work. I can only see two holes. I'm still searching for larger monitors but wanted to know if I see a picture of a back of a monitor that isn't incredibly detailed but that I could see two holes, that it is capable of mounting or not.

A. The pictures of the back of the monitor show the stand bolted in 4 holes. Bottom two are part of the larger 4 bolt pattern called VESA mounting holes for your double stand.

A. Easy.
Buy a touch panel that you either clip on top of your current monitor, or one that you mount inside your current monitor casing. You can get such panels for cheap at eBay. They work by adding a touch-capable transparent panel on top of your LCD screen, and then you simply connect the included USB dongle to a free USB port, install drivers and away you go.

Just search for "touch panel kit" on eBay for instance and you'll get a whole bunch of different types and sizes. I converted my old 19" LCD to touch a couple of years ago by using an internally mounted capacitive panel. Worked great.

How to wall mount a unmountable monitor?

Q. Dear all,

I have a LG Flatron W2254V 22" LCD monitor and I want to mount it on my wall. The problem is, it doesn't have those 4 screw holes at the back of the monitor like what other mountable monitors would have. So in my case, how do I mount my monitor on the wall and what are the hardware that I should use?

I will need an amplifier to connect the speakers to it and then the amplifier to the carpc. My question is what type of amplifier i will need? I will have to buy 2 4-channel amplifiers?

For a "carputer" the idea is to have a "non-hard drive" based computer that runs stand alone Windows XP/Vista from a Bootable USB drive that runs the music player of your choice using plugins.

Your MP3's are stored on another USB drive that can be removed for editing.

This all ties into your sound system (amps, subs/speakers).

No hard drive means nothing will crash. A touch screen display is really the only other peice of equipment needed that can be custom mounted in your dash as you say.

Look up BartPE and Sherpya. These two guys found a way to run the full GUI of Windows XP on a USB drive (under 600 Mb).

A shuttle style computer is all you need for the computer. You can even have 5.1 or 7.1 Dolby digital.

I have a Dell w1700 lcd/monitor how do you take the back panel off?

Q. My Dell w1700 lcd/monitor has power but doesn't show anything on the screen i have been told that it is either/or the fuses and capacitors blew and I was starting to take the back panel off but it feels like its going to break can someone assist me in taking this apart and replacing them. Please help?

A. I just recently replaced the inverter of my dell and to remove the back panel of the screen, you can start by removing the monitor from the mount or the stand and remove 4 screws found after removing from tv stand. remove all other screws from the back and gently pry the front of the screen w by using a small flat head screw driver. you might have to put a little more pressure for it to pop off. Becareful removing the back panel as there is a wire connected to it. Once you have the back pannel removed, follow the detailed instructions from the link below.

How do I secure an LCD monitor that does not have a Kensington lock slot?

Q. Is there any type of lock that uses the VESA mount as the connection to the back of the monitor. I would prefer not to butcher the monitor by drilling holes and do not feel comfortable using adhesive locks. Ideally I would like a plate that screws into VESA mount on the back, then another plate (to cover the screws and prevent tampering). The top place would have either a Kensington lock slot, or a hole that I can run a cable through. Thanks for your help!

A. Kensington do make a lock for LCD's that don't have a lock slot, sadly this just wraps around the lower part of the stand which for 50 quid is a bit much. Most cycle shops sell a very similar thing for under a tenner and do a very similar job.
without drilling holes it is going to be difficult to get anything to secure to the screen on a permanent basis, short of fitting something inside the screen air vents it will be hard to get a secure locking method. Of course dismantling the outer casing to insert a locking mechanism (assuming you find something that works) will invalidate any warranty and may actually cause a shock or fire hazard.
