What kind of graphics card is compatible with my pc and monitor?

Q. I’m upgrading my pc from Win XP to Win 7 OS and need to get a new graphics card that has/supports DirectX 11. I don’t know what type graphics card is compatible with my machine, but it has the following:

1. Athlon64 4200 Dual Core (2.2Ghz) CPU
2. MSI K9N4 Ultra F motherboard , NVIDIA nForce 500 Chipset based with PCIe x 16 slot
3. Acer model P205H LCD monitor with 1600 x 900 resolution

I recently added more RAM to accommodate Windows 7, but now need to upgrade the graphics. I don't game; I mostly use my computer for financial management, photo editing and storage, and some web surfing. I'd also like to be able to stream movies. Please help me determine what kind/type of graphics card is compatible and meets these needs along with being under $150. Thank you!

A. What motherboard?

What is the difference in LCD monitors?
Q. I am planning to buy a new monitor for a new PC, and I wasn't sure what kind to get. I do web design on it and I watch a lot of movies. I also do photo editing and digital drawing. I want something with nice sharp picture, but I wasn't sure what all the numbers mean on the listings. I have been looking at Tigerdirect. Could someone explain the differences and what all the little numbers mean for each?

23" 1366x768 / 720p Native / 8ms / 700:1 Contrast Ratio / HDMI / ATSC Tuner / HD LCD TV

Samsung SyncMaster 216BW 21.6" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 5ms, 1000:1(DC 3000:1), WSXGA+ 1680x1050, Gloss Black, DVI-D, D-sub, 300 cd/m2

The 1000:1 thing and the 720p are what I dont understand at all. Please impart your knowledge upon me.
I know one listing is a monitor and one is a tv, but assuming they will both work with my computer, what do you think.

A. The number 720 stands for 720 lines of vertical display resolution, while the letter p stands for progressive scan or non-interlaced.

1000:1 is a contrast ratio this explains it:
The contrast ratio is a measure of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest color to the luminosity of the darkest color that the system is capable of producing

How to reduce eye strain on high gloss lcd screen?

Q. What kind of windows theme will help reduce eye strain on glossy monitor? Can any settings specific to windows vista or XP help?

A. I find that lowering the contrast of the display to be the most helpful when dealing with glossy monitors. If that fails to help you can try to reduce the amount of room light or light that might reflect off of the surface of the screen. There are no Windows settings that can help with this. You might also consider replacing you monitor with a new monitor with a matte screen. These types are less glary but overall less brilliant.

How can I prevent my eyes from becoming worse when I have to sit in front of a computer all day?
Q. Anything more than 5 feet away is slightly blurred, so I have to wear contacts or glasses. It's not so bad that I can't see where I'm going, but I'd like to stop them from getting to that point. What are some things I can do to keep my eyes from getting worse?

A. make sure your monitor is not set to 60hz (unless its LCD then that doesn't matter, LCD's don't flicker). But CRTs (cathode ray tube) do flicker. I can see the flicker at 60hz, real bad. So it drives me crazy and gives me headaches and makes my eyes hurt. so I set mine to 75hz usually.

Go to control panel, display, settings, advanced, monitor. (you may need to adjust your screen width and height on your monitor after changing this setting).

Off of 60Hz makes the screen looks clearer to most people. But what it is is less eye strain, your pupils are trying to compensate 60 times per second when its set to 60hertz though you may not notice, your eyes most likely do.

Also do exercises with your eyes look at something far away then something close. I even do this if I am at a store, I pay attention to how long it takes for my eyes to focus. I do it more often till I can focus quicker. I have worked everyday with computers for 11 years and my eyes have not changed at all, but I have never needed glasses or contacts.

Q. I am going to buy a 23 inch lcd monitor. I have been doing some research on lcd monitors online and in stores. There are so many different opinions. I am looking to pay no more than $250 before tax and warranty extension.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to which model and where I should buy from. Any concrete models and specifics would be appreciated.

What is a good LCD monitor for doing some photo work (hobby not pro) Budget = $400?
Q. Looking for a monitor good for doing photo editing but not anything completely professional. In researching monitors, many mention the gaming, video, text capabilities but not photo. I just want something that will have good color accuracy so that if I print what I see it's fairly the same thing.

How can I change the resolution on the mame emulator?

Q. It seems that the default resolution for the emulator is a little blurry. I tried messing the options but didn't find anything that would let me make the picture more pixelated/grainy. Anyone find anything that I may have looked over? Oh, I am using a lcd moniter.

thanks

A. 1 are you using a video card?
2 are you speaking all games in general or specific games?
3 what size monitor are you using?

OKay generally you might change the monitor res or the videocards res. In a lot of the older games it has to do with the video freq. You need to also remember that MAME is an emulator and could be combining backgrounds, foregrounds and the game. (Bezels).

I'll give you more info soon.

can anybody tell me from where I can bye monitor in Pune in reasonable rates?
Q. I live in pune. If anybody know the wholesalers in computer peripherals please tell me. I want to take pc and with without cheat by dealers.

A. Try to locate local assembler in Peth area. Like BABA computers on Tilak road. Its near Vijay Talkies.
One good shop is Grace computers which in Bhosle-Shinde Arcade near Deccan theatre.
Also try LG's showroom at Ghole Patil road.
I would recommend LCD moniters by BenQ. The quality is good and its cheap too.
Don't go for CRT monitors.

What is the best monitor brand that I can use for my ps3?

Q. What is the best monitor brand that I can use for my ps3?I need an monitor that can support the resolution of 1080p for my ps3. I also have a question if a monitor has the max resolution of 1980x1080 does it mean it can support 1080p?Thanks.

A. Get Samsung PX2370, its awesome. On cnet website its the best reviewed monitor. I bought it 2 months ago for my ps3 and its a treat to play games on it. It supports1080p resolution which means 1920x1080 (not 1980x1080, there is no such resolution like 1980x1080). And its very thin & sexy. Here is a link:

How to choose the right LCD monitor for gaming?
Q. I am going to be using the LCD monitor with my Xbox 360 and I am having difficulties on what I should look for.

I can't seem to figure out what specs I am looking for. Can anyone tell me about which contrast ratio, vertical/ horizontal refresh rates, resolution, and brightness I should look for on an LCD monitor?

Also would it be better with HDMI or no? If possible can you also list a few monitors you would recommend?

A. HDMI is good, but expensive. DVI will give you the same result for a lot less.

Refresh rates are going to be about the same for every brand. However, some top of the line have 240 Hz rates - very good.

Resolution: 1920x1200 is HD widescreen.

Contrast of 1000:1 or better.

Response: 5 ms or less

Dot Pitch: 0.28 or less

Brightness: 300 cd at a bare minimum, get the highest.

How can I use a salvaged LCD screen to make a second monitor for my laptop?

Q. The motherboard on my old laptop crashed a few years back and I have recently salvaged the old LCD monitor from the assembly. I was wondering if there was a relatively cheap way to add a power source and monitor cable to attach it back to my current machine. Again, the old motherboard is shot so I can't really use it to create the new monitor system. Any help would be great!

Cheers.

A. There is a way to hack a laptop so its screen is used as an extra monitor. Not for the unskilled in wiring. http://www.slashgear.com/hack-your-laptop-to-make-an-extra-monitor-for-your-desktop-275957/
But the motherboard needs to operate, as it has the GPU chipset and interface chipset to run the screen. Not for you. A screen by itself has no electronics to decode the VGA signal into a display format. You have to have a lot of electronics. You can buy up to 23 inch LCD screens new for under $110 on sale at some places. Seems like a lot less trouble.

What do I need to hook up an LCD monitor to my computer and to my VCR and to my DVD player?
Q. I want to buy my boyfriend and awesome monitor that he can use to watch movies and for work. Is this possible? Please give me a step by step process. I'm not high-tech and need all the coaching I can get.

A. VCRs and DVDs players output a video signal that is different from the video display output of a computer. If you want to use a LCD monitor with a computer and a DVD player, it's easier to just connect a DVD drive to the computer so the computer can also play DVDs. If you also want to hook up a VCR, you could get a video capture card for the computer that will digitize the video signal from the VCR and allow it to be played on the computer using the LCD monitor. It's usually possible to find a basic video capture card (either PCI or USB interface) on sale for $10-30.

What is the impact of the resolution to the quality of the gaming experience?

Q. Hay all.
I have a 19" LCD monitor running on my gtx 580. M running it on 1366x768 resolution. Now, I like to play games in the highest possible details, with a lot of FPS <- and i'm not sure my monitor does that.

So my question is, should i buy a 1080p monitor? will it improve the image clarity or will it just reduce my FPS?

thanks
-NICK-

A. both. It will improve image clarity, but the higher the resolution, the lower the frame rate.

Although seeing as how your using the best single gpu card out on the market, your gpu would handle 1080p gaming just fine, even the settings should still be on max or very high.

why the square monitor are being replaced by the wide ones?
Q. why if i want to buy a 26" lcd monitor there is nt way to buy them , even where there were more variety the wide ones were cheaper than the regulars ones? the same happen with the notebooks.
is there a reason why wide is cheaper?

A. People seem to have a preference to wide screens because you technically see more wide space due to peripheral vision; However, it is rare that monitors actually get used in such a way that peripheral vision is necessary, so it's mostly a marketing gimmick. (After all, even if you get a screen that's tall, you can still easily see the top and bottom of it without having to move your eyes much.) Widescreen is also the recorded movie for format, and since people don't like the "ugly" (?) black bars it was decided that it would "look better" if the screens were wide too.
Widescreen also costs less because a monitor with the same designation of size (e.g. 26") has less of a viewing area than a regular monitor of the "same" size! (i.e., 26" WS != 26" regular, because they're measured diagonally.)
(Personally, I prefer the "square" monitors too!)

and i am not a massive gamer and i have not got my heart set on mac and i would also have a look at hackintosh and i will create two of the and write your answer on both so you can get the 10 points

A. If you want a computer for gaming, PC all the way hands down.
If you want a computer for web design/work/video editing/music go Apple.

Personally, I'm a PC lover, but my wife has a MacBook Pro 2011 bc she records music.

If you make a lot of money, get both.
You can build a nice gaming PC for $600-$800.
Sell your MacBook Pro 2011 for $800-$900 and use the cash for the PC build.
Then buy the Mac you want/were planning to buy.

What are the important features to buy a 22 inch wide screen LCD monitor?

Q. I want to buy a 22 inch wide screen LCD monitor for viewing movies. My budget is $ 350. I want high quality picture. So what monitor do I buy?

A. Important things to look at are the resolution, brightness, and response time. The response time is more for games but it would seem logical that a faster response time equals smoother video. the resolution in my opinion is by far the most important although ther is no point in high resolution if the screen is dim. :)

How often should a 50 inch plasma TV be calibrated?

Q. TV is 4 years old & was calibrated 2 yrs ago. Is the color supposed to be calibrated every couple years? Our TV salesperson says after a couple years, it doesn't make much difference & I don't know why he'd think that considering they charge $300!
It is flat screen not rear projection. My husband swears they need to be calibrated every couple years and we don't know how to do it ourselves.

A. Back when CRT-based TV’s, monitors, and projectors were the only game in town—and consumer display calibration was beginning to take roots within a niche market comprised primarily of videophiles and ardent video enthusiasts—it was recommended that such displays be recalibrated annually for those that wanted to maintain the highest level of color accuracy possible. But that was back when the overwhelming majority of consumer electronics manufacturers universally dismissed or ignored color accuracy…regularly producing TV’s and RPTV’s pre-set from the factory to produce a noticeably bluer gray-scale, which is typically perceived as brighter and more vivid.

Once more and more consumers were exposed to greater color accuracy and improved picture fidelity, thanks in large part to the efforts of Joe Kane and the Imaging Science Foundation, and further promoted by the media, most manufacturers of today’s consumer display devices now regularly provide one or more factory settings in addition to a variety of user-accessible picture controls that offer substantially better color accuracy and image fidelity directly out of the box. Without question, professional display calibration is far from a necessity for most consumers; only die-hard enthusiasts and videophiles (and opportunistic big-box consumer electronics retailers) believe/claim display “calibration” is a necessity.

From an earlier post* of mine: “I also encourage you to read the online Peter Putnam article, the Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity articles, and several of the other applicable resources to which I have provided a links below. In the end you may find that the optimization process is more than sufficient.” If you really feel the need for regular instrument-based professional display calibrations then you should strongly consider purchasing your own tristimulus colorimeter—some selling for roughly the same price as a single display calibration from Best Buy’s Geek Squad—and performing your own display “calibrations” at your leisure.

The bottom line is this: without a precision calibrated color reference display, placed side-by-side with your display, it is extremely unlikely that you—not unlike the majority of people with normal color vision—will be able to notice if the color accuracy (or gray-scale tracking) of your television is out of tolerance by a small to moderate amount. Quite often careful display configuration and optimization is all one needs to enjoy a sufficiently accurate color picture. And if you still feel the need to pay for a third-party professional display calibration then you should at least receive a significant discount for regular periodic ‘maintenance’ calibrations.

What is the difference between analog RGB and DVI inputs?
Q. You know, to hook up a computer to an LCD? I heard that DVI has a better picture quality but Im not sure. Thanks.

A. DVI does have better quality, but you need a video card that supports it.

RGB is not a typical monitor connection, because it can scale up to a mere 640x480 pixels. I think you may be referring to VGA, however, which has the same resolution limits as DVI (1920x1200).

DVI will yield more accurate colors, though refresh rates and response times won't differ. For a high-end monitor, such as Dell's or HP's 30-inchers, the resolution is 2560x1600. Under these ridonkulous conditions, you must use a dual-link DVI connection—even then, only if you have a compatible video card. Anything under that should only require a standard single-dvi connection.

However, unless you're an amateur graphic artist or beginning professional photographer, DVI won't make a huge difference (I specified skill level because a true professional would have a dual-link DVI setup). I use DVI on my primary 1680x1050 LCD and the gamut is imperciptibly different from my secondary 1280x1024 LCD which is connected via VGA.

In truth, it doesn't matter what you use. If you already have a DVI cord and a DVI capable computer and monitor, then it wouldn't hurt to use it in place of your VGA connection. Inversely, if you don't have a DVI cord or DVI capable set-up, then there is absolutely no rush to go out and buy one because you won't see any performance increase. Both connections put the same load on your computer. To put the quality difference in perspective, if VGA was 96%, then DVI would be 98% (in terms of color accuracy).

Is it okay to use baby wipes to clean my LCD flat screen monitor?

Q. i just want to wipe it clean and ive read in previous questions and answers not to use windex but someone saif a baby wipe would work, they do have alcohol in them however. could i just use a soft cloth and water? im not really wanting to go buy something if i dont have to.

A. cloth and water works fine. you don't need to buy a baby wipes just to wipe your lcd screen. i use baby wipes all the time (only because there's a baby in the house) for cleaning the screen, and it doesn't damage the screen or anything.

How can I clean the lcd screen on my laptop without damaging it?
Q. I don't really want to go out and buy a pack of lcd wipes, but can someone help me out with a few good tips?
I don't really want to go out and buy a pack of lcd wipes, but can someone help me out with a few good tips?
and please stop with the whole water and paper towels idea...

A. I use baby wipes, no alcohol formula. If its safe enough for my daughter's bottom, it is safe enough for the monitor. No problems in the past 15 years I have been using them.

Also- I live in a remote mountain city in SE Asia. We do have a hardware store but specialty items are rare.

What is the difference between the galaxy s4 vs galaxy tablet?

Q. ?

A. Make your life richer, simpler, and more fun. As a real life companion, the new Samsung GALAXY S4 helps bring us closer and captures those fun moments when we are together. Each feature was designed to simplify our daily lives. Furthermore, it cares enough to monitor our health and well-being. To put it simply, the Samsung GALAXY S4 is there for you.

The original Galaxy Tab was introduced on 2 September 2010 at the IFA in Berlin. It has a single core 1 GHz Exynos processor, and a 7-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Its operating system is based on Android 2.2 Froyo with some custom skins and applications. Most Android 2.2 apps developed using Google's guidelines for Android should scale properly when displayed on larger-screen devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, according to Samsung. In May 2011 it was reported that Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 was being made available in Italy, with other regions expected to follow. Several updates have been made throughout the world and in February, 2012, Android version Gingerbread 2.3.6 is available.

what is the major difference besides price between a digital camera and a digital slr camera?

Q.

A. http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/difference-between-slr-and-digital.html ...

No Movie Mode
Right up until September of 2008, this was a huge difference between digital SLRs and compact digital cameras.

SLRs are mostly focused on capturing still images, not video.

But in September of 2008, Nikon released a camera called the D90 - the first digital SLR that can capture both still photos AND High Definition (HD) video.

Hot on the heels of the D90 came the announcement of the new Canon 5D Mark II - the second digital SLR that captures photos and video (also HD).

While the addition of a movie mode appears to be an emerging trend in the digital SLR market, the vast majority of old and even new SLR cameras can not capture video.

Limited Live View
If you've seen any compact digital cameras, then you know that you can compose a photo just by looking at the LCD monitor on the camera's back.

You'll notice that virtually everyone who uses a compact camera takes photos this way - they never look through the viewfinder.

A surprising difference between SLR and compact digital cameras is that some SLRs don't have a live preview mode (especially models released prior to 2007).

The LCD is only good for reviewing shots that you've already taken - it won't show you the photo you're about to take.

This means that you must compose all your photos by looking through the viewfinder.

Many newer digital SLR cameras allow you to compose photos using both the LCD and the viewfinder (these are called live view digital SLRs), but they all have one huge limitation: the sophisticated autofocus systems that SLRs are renowned for don't work very well in "live view" mode.

For now, live view on SLRs is fine if you to take photos of static subjects, but it's impossible to use for any type of action photography.

Manual Zoom
Compact digital cameras have electronic zooms. Just push a button (or lever) and the camera's lens zooms in and out.

With a digital SLR, you're going to need two hands - zooming is a manual process. In order to zoom, you have to twist a ring on the lens.

Zoom Range
Since we're on the topic of zooms, let's talk about another difference between SLR and compact digital cameras.

Recently several compact cameras have been introduced with "mega-zooms".

In the compact world, zoom range is described by a multiplier (i.e. 4x, 6x or 10x) while with digital SLR lenses it's described in millimeters (i.e. 50mm, 100mm or 300mm).

Compact cameras with a 10x or 12x zoom cover an extremely wide range from wide angle to telephoto.

A similar lens for a digital SLR camera costs $400 or more and it usually doesn't have the same optical quality as zooms that don't cover such a wide zoom range.

If you want a 12x zoom with a digital SLR, it's a better bet to get two lenses instead of just one.

Size and Weight
If your idea of the ultimate camera is something that fits in your pocket, then forget all about digital SLRs.

The most obvious difference between SLR and compact digital cameras (besides price) is sheer size. Even a small-sized digital SLR camera is twice the size and bulk of a compact camera.

While there are many new digital SLR models that are more portable (and are easier to travel with) the addition of a lens to your camera ensures that you'll never be able to stow it away in your pants.

So What Should You Buy?
Even though I've talked about the difference between SLR and digital compact cameras you still might be on the fence.

Here are a few questions that might help you make up your mind:

Do you want to take more professional-looking photos?
Do you want to be able to change the lens attached to your camera?
Do you want more control over the photos that you take?
Are you sick and tired of the slow speed of your compact camera?
Do you want to take lots of photos in dim light?
If you answered YES to every question, get a digital SLR. You'll be happier in the long run.

If you answered NO or MAYBE to one or more, then take a good look at the digital compact cameras.

Good camera for a photographer?
Q. I am going to collage to be a photographer next year and was wondering what is a good camera to buy?

A. Digital SLR cameras are the ultimate for professional and amateur photographers alike. They offer all the great features of a film SLR camera with the ability to view your photos immediately and edit the digital images quickly and easily. Though the right camera for you is truly whichever fits your budget and wish list, follow these steps for some hints to choose the right digital SLR camera.

Compare camera sensors and resolution. The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II and EOS 5D, for example, have full-frame image sensors, meaning they're the same size as a 35mm film frame. Resolutions for digital SLRs range from 5 to 16.7 megapixels, the higher range being more professional and more expensive.

Check the LCD monitor for size and readability. Make sure you can comfortably read the screen in bright as well as normal light. Some cameras offer larger, and therefore more expensive, monitors for those who prefer them.

Look for the amount of internal memory as well as the ability for memory cards. You can buy extra memory cards of varying sizes to in effect never run out of space while you're on vacation or doing a photo shoot and don't have time to dump your photos into your laptop.

Search for the white balance and subject modes that suit your photography needs. Lighting settings such as automatic, sunlight, shade and flash help keep your photos bright no matter where you are. Automatic subject modes such as portrait, close-up, landscapes and action assist you in the achieving the correct settings for your photo type.

Compare the physical size of digital SLR cameras to decide what's best for you. Canon EOS Digital Rebel NT or Nikon D50 are smaller and easier to carry than the larger Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II or Nikon D2x. If you have multiple lenses and other accessories, your camera bag could get heavy and bulky very quickly with a large camera--however, those larger cameras carry some great functions that may be worth the extra weight.

Seek out a quick operating speed if you love to take lots of photos quickly. Some of the fastest digital SLRs are the Canon EOS-1D Mark II N with 8.5 frames per second and the Nikon D2x and D2Hs at 8 frames per second.

Buy a camera after looking at unique features, lenses and accessories. Tripods, camera bags, remote clickers and softening lenses are all extra costs but can add to the ease and beauty of your photographs.

Where can I find a cheap wireless VGA transmitter?

Q. I have a Macbook Pro and a Dell LCD Monitor. I would like to be able to mount my monitor on the wall and use it wirelessly. I know there are wireless VGA transmitters that are kind of expensive, so I was wondering if there were cheaper solutions such as bluetooth transmitters.

A. No such thing as a cheap wireless VGA transmitter. They are all expensive.

And bluetooth does not have the bandwidth to send a monitor signal, that is why there is no such thing as a bluetooth VGA transmitter either.

What amplifier i need for my car PC project?
Q. I have a 2008 VW golf GT with the standard 8 speakers package and i am planning to put a car pc. I will remove the oem Head Unit and put a 7" inch lcd monitor. I will need an amplifier to connect the speakers to it and then the amplifier to the carpc. My question is what type of amplifier i will need? I will have to buy 2 4-channel amplifiers?

Thanks in advance

A. A 4-channel with an optional mono amp for subs.

For a "carputer" the idea is to have a "non-hard drive" based computer that runs stand alone Windows XP/Vista from a Bootable USB drive that runs the music player of your choice using plugins.

Your MP3's are stored on another USB drive that can be removed for editing.

This all ties into your sound system (amps, subs/speakers).

No hard drive means nothing will crash. A touch screen display is really the only other peice of equipment needed that can be custom mounted in your dash as you say.

Look up BartPE and Sherpya. These two guys found a way to run the full GUI of Windows XP on a USB drive (under 600 Mb).

A shuttle style computer is all you need for the computer. You can even have 5.1 or 7.1 Dolby digital.

Here is a good place to start:

What is the projected supply of Barium in the United States?

Q.

A. My search found the links below offering barytes supply/demand articles for sale.

"The Economics of Barytes, 10th edition 2006

The new Roskill report on the barytes industry will be published in May 2006. It will provide up-to-date market analysis of resources, production, consumption, end-use market trends, international trade and prices.

Like all Roskill reports, this new edition of The Economics of Barytes will give you a completely impartial industry overview. Our expert researchers have made a thorough and objective analysis of all available data from the world's most reliable sources, including a large and invaluable network of industry contacts. That's why the breadth, depth, accuracy and expertise of our research is unrivalled.

The new edition of this report has been extensively revised and updated, containing the most up-to-date information available on the barytes industry.

This report offers you in-depth, independent analysis of the current and future supply, demand from end-use markets, and the implications these developments are likely to have on prices in the future, including:

World annual barytes output has risen sharply in the early 2000s. In 2000, output was 5.8Mt rising to 6.5Mt in 2003, 7.2Mt in 2004 and around 7.6Mt in 2005.
China has been the largest barytes producer for many years, but in the 1990s it strengthened its position, accounting for 51% of world production in 2004, as compared with 30% in 1990. The other most significant producers include India (14%), USA (7%), Morocco (4%), Mexico (4%) and Iran (3%).
Drilling fluids are by far the most important market for barytes, accounting 77% of worldwide usage. Because of the size of this market, many aspects of barytes production are determined by the oil and natural gas exploration industry, and the price of oil. Since 2004, increased oil and gas output through high levels of drilling activity, and high prices have resulted in the barytes market rising sharply.
A question mark hangs over the continuing use of barium compounds in the manufacture of television and computer monitor display glass. Demand for cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions in the West is declining rapidly, with many switching to LCD and plasma screens. However, CRT televisions are still a much cheaper alternative, and are the favoured choice in India and China, where most CRT production is now based.
Barytes prices have increased significantly in the last 3 years. This is largely due to the freight rate doubling at the end of 2003, and the phasing out of Chinese VAT rebates.
All the latest Roskill reports are available in hard and electronic format and can be purchased through the secure server on our website, www.roskill.com, or by returning the completed order form to us.

The key trends, issues and developments in the market are now analysed in this major new report from Roskill. It provides a clear insight into all areas of the industry and an authoritative analysis of the prospects for the future."

what's the difference between lcd monitor and flat screen?

Q. is an lcd monitor like the really old big monitors or do they not sell those anymore? i want to buy a monitor but i want a thin, flat, light one. what is the difference?

A. Flat screen could be an old CRT monitor that has, (get this..hehe) a flat screen as opposed to a slightly domed screen. In other words, a "flat screen monitor" won't necessarily be LCD.

A flat panel monitor is what you are thinking of when you say you want a thin one. It will be LCD.

Why does my LCD monitor go out like this? Unplugging it for a minute fixes it for a while?
Q. I have an LG 1952TQ LCD monitor. Every so often, about once every 2 months, overnight, while the computer is off, the monitor will lose all power. If I unplug it, wait a minute, and then plug it back in, it turns back on, and then it'll go about another 2 months before it does it again. The monitor never does this during the day, while I'm on the computer. It has always done it overnight, while I'm sleeping. What could be the cause of this?

A. It is your power settings. Sounds like your monitor is going into sleep mode and not waking up in certain situations. You can power your monitor off when you are not using it or you can adjust the power settings in the control panel so that your monitor does not sleep.

Which has better global picture quality? An IPS LCD or an nowadays LED screen?
Q. I'm asking this because I know people who work with graphics —still pictures, film edition, etc— love LCD screens with IPS technology. However current LCD screens are newer.

Thank you vey much.

A. I like IPS because they seem to have a more vivid picture, this is one I have been looking at with a really small bezel http://httgo.co/2012/11/thin-borderless-ips-23-inch-monitor-by-aoc/

What is the difference between an LCD Monitor and an LCD TV?

Q. Why are LCD Monitors cheaper than LCD TVs? Both receive and process digital information so why the big price difference? Is it the resolution and clarity? Or is it just a rip off the industry doesn't want you to know about?

A. Those LCD panel for Monitor use is design main for text display. LCD display panel for tv use is design for image/picture. is not the same panel, some technical difference ! A low end standard LCD monitor price can be cheap, but a good monitor should be cost more than LCD tv ( compare to same size screen ). For TV..LCD display + tuner RF > IF> colour decode > Audio RF>IF> ..... Total many other parts and circuit design . Monitor need good Resolution LCD panel + VIDEOS display circuit , because of resolution ,LCD Display panel price always high,or even very high ! ( unless ,some cheap monitor use bad resolution panel ). maybe make is more sample for this... F1 engine and WRX sport saloon car engine, is engine, but difference design because of difference NEED !

Should I get an LCD monitor without a tv tuner or an LCD TV with tuner?
Q. Should I get an LCD monitor without a tv tuner or an LCD TV with tuner? I'm thinking about getting a 30-32" screen for my computer that I will use a lot (and mostly for computing purposes and probably watching Blu-Ray and Netflix on). It seems like LCD monitors without tuners that are 30" are significantly more expensive than LCD TV's. Why is that?

Which should I get?

A. I would suggest getting one without, and buying a tuner for your computer. Only 70 bucks at best buy and you can get a even better monitor without the tuner. It sounds like you are getting a TV that doubles as a Computer Monitor which in most cases is not good. A true monitor will give you the best quality compared to a tv with Monitor Capabilities. Also you can hook up your Cable to the TV tuner and DVR shows, and save yourself some money but not having a dvr from the cable company if you have one already. Go Single Monitor Only, you will be much happier, and buy the tuner separate. Link below for Tuner Cost. I am sure there are cheaper out there but this is the one I use and it has been great.

A. Monitor 24"-31" I'd recommend a Dell. TV 32" and up I'd recommend a LG LED set like the LM5800 or LM6200.

Best ViewSonic monitor for playing on an Xbox 360?
Q. I was researching good TV's to play video games on, and couldn't find any. They all had lag. Now, I've decided that I'm going to get a monitor to play games on. I found out that ViewSonic had good monitors especially for console gaming, so which one is the best? I really want the best one available at this time. Thank you.

A. Hi........again, ha ha. Well, when it comes to gaming just as anyone you want the best quality, which gives you a better experience. I like what you've picked considering they also have available 3D versions http://www.viewsonic.com/assets/039/11136.pdf . From what I've learned is that the Viewsonic in general has good or decent Color-depth and Brightness. Not to mention excellent Response time, which is always important to have. I would go with the ViewSonic Vx2250wm-led LCD Monitor.
It was voted best for the 2010-2011 years & out of all the Viewsonic selections. Don't take my word for it though, double check, because it costs $169 - $175 so if you do buy it make sure you pick the one you're absolutly positive you want.

PS - Yes I'm a Movie, gaming, and Space nerd. and proud of it! :D

Do I have to replace the lcd monitor to get a sharper view after I upgrade my new graphic card?

Q. I bought GTX 470 by EVGA. However, the texts and everything looks kinda blurry at 1280x800 or 768. My monitor is Gateway, FPD2485W and bought it three years ago. If I replace the monitor with a newer one, will that make everything more sharp and clear with XP or 7?

A. No duh it looks blurry. You're not running your LCD at native resolution. Turn it up to 1920x1200 and everything will look fine.

What do you think?

A. >Excellent computer. Just realize now that with Home Premium edition, you are maxed out on the gigabytes of RAM you can have, even if you have more slots on the motherboard. Home Premium 64 bit can only access up to 8 gigs of RAM, that is the only condition I see you might want to consider. But other than that, looks zuper to me.

What do you think of my (future) build?

Does anyone have any suggestions? My budget is 2400.

A. i recommend upgrading a few things.
the motherboard and processor change to lga 2011,the costs are the same as what your getting but theres the option to upgrade to a hexacore in the future.
i7 3820
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115229
x79 motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157282

I also recommend staying away from rosewill power supplies.
I had a 850 watt psu rosewill fortress running a gtx 480,i5 2500k,8gb ram,and single hdd,and a dvd burner.
shoulda been at around 50-70% even a max,but within a month it burned out.
I'd go with a corsair,xfx,seasonic power supply.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207021

the evga one is great because while its rated at 1200 it can output 2700.6x12v rails each with 38 amps.
so 38*12*6.because amps*volts =watts.since theres more than 1 12v rail you mulitply it by the number it has 6
38*12=456
456*6=2736
it's so heavily underrated because they wanted all the prestigious approvals of low ripple, clean power output, etc.

switch the ram to quad channel if you decide to change to the lga 2011
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233232

I agree that you should change the gtx 570 out but not to the gtx 660 ti,to the 7950.check sources for benchmarks.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127696
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102989
listed both since it's your choice.go with the 660 ti PE if you choose the 660 ti as it is more overclockable than a regular 660 ti,it has 2 pcie connectors vs the 1 on a regular 660 ti.

don't forget the dvd drive, you need to in order to install the bios, they can't be found online and you won't have internet access without them.

How to dispose of a broken computer and an non-LCD monitor?

Q. I don't want to put it in the garbage. Is there an environmentally friendly way to get rid of it? Oh, and when I get a new computer how are LCD monitors better for your eyes?

Thanks

A. You need to call a recycling company. They will probably charge you to recycle them as the heavy metals have to be removed. Also, LCD monitors are better because they reduce glare (even the glossy ones), and reduce eyestrain because of this.

Can LCD monitors damage the skin around your eyes?
Q. I have an LCD monitor and I wanted to know if it can damage or affect the SKIN around your eye in any way? Like for example can it cause premature eye wrinkles, or thin down the skin around it, or anything similar?

A. LCD monitors are the same light as a lightbulb...just a bit more intense and controlled to display images. Unless you're squinting and straining to read something on screen then you're fine.

How to have audio on Xbox 360 via HDMi on LCD Monitor without having the LCD connected to a Desktop?

Q. Is it possible to connect the Xbox 360 to one of my LCD monitors with HDMi and still have audio without having to connect the PC in and other stuff ... The problem is that the actual LCD Monitor does not have incorporated speakers ... so can normal speakers be connected to my xbox using some cables or extention. Much appreciated

A. Yes, you can do that. You have two options:

1. You can use HDMI for video and the optical audio output on your Xbox if you have one of the model with both.

2. You can use HDMI for video and buy the A/V HD adapter that allows you to use either optical or the red/white rca stereo hookups. You can find these adapters on amazon.

And, of course, you'll need a sound system/speakers that can use whichever connection you go with. You can can an adapter that will go from rca stereo to 3.5mm for portable speaker systems.

Is this PC Desktop enough for my gaming needs?

Q. Windows® 7 Home Basic - Intel® Core™ i5- 3450 Processor - 4GB DDR3 RAM - 1TB SATA HDD - NVIDIA GT620 Graphics - 16X DVD-SuperMulti Drive - Acer S202HLvbd 20" LCD Monitor

Is this a good pc? I'm planning on upgrading the gpu to a gt 550 ti or 560 ti depending on my budget.
I'll use this pc for playing LoL, TF2, some source games, and current games.

A. I would say that you will be fine for most games. Surely the Witcher 2 will be playable when they managed to get it to work on a 360 which has far less power than your rig. Add at least 2 Gigs more memory and you will be ok for a year or so then need to upgrade.

What is the best 20' flat panel computer monitor?
Q. I'm looking for a decent LCD monitor to hook up to my PC for DVD viewing and multi-tasking. My budget is around $300. Any suggestions?

A. Instead getting opinion by the amateurs, my recommendation is to google it for best 20" LCD monitor. For budget around $300, I recommend 22" if possible. Big = Better.

What is an ideal response time and contrast ratio on a flat panel monitor for gaming?

Q. I'm in the market for a new flat panel monitor. I primarily use my computer for gaming. What is an ideal range for response time? What should I be looking for as far as contrast ratio goes? Thanks!

A. Ideally you want a response time below 4ms. Response time will determine the amount of 'lag' your monitor gets. The more lag your monitor has, the more time it'll take for you to respond.

So how low you'll need also depends on the type of game you're playing. FPS games, fast real time strategy games will require a faster (smaller) response time.

Technically your eyes can only see about 30 frames per second. That's about 33ms. However, a lot of people notice lag with 12ms response time monitors, which shouldn't be noticed! So why?

Most LCD manufacturers 'hard sell' their products. When they say 12ms, that's the SMALLEST they could get. For example, if a player scored 10 goals in 1 game, their agent might sell them as "a player who scored 10 goals in 1 game."

But that doesn't mean that player will score 10 goals in every game! That was under a certain situation. Maybe the opposing team sucked (in LCD terms, certain programs). Maybe they had home court advantage (in LCD terms, ideal temperature).

Summary: Manufacturers often give you the BEST response time, not the AVERAGE response time. It'd be best to compare the averages but the manufacturers don't give you that, so you should go with the lowest best and hope the average is good.

An easy way to remember 'response time' (lower/higher) --- how long will it take the monitor to 'respond' to an action? How long will it take you to 'respond' to an action? This should help you remember whether lower or higher is better.

In comparison, CRTs (the older, fat monitors) have a response time of nearly 0ms.

Contrast Ratio --
Again manufacturers give you the best possible, not the likely/average contrast ratio. Still, usually higher is better.

Contrast Ratio determines the amount of colour differences you'll see. Higher Contrast Ratio = more colours.

Between the two, response time is always more important for fast gaming. But having high contrast ratio means you'll be able to see more shades of colours.

What do any of you recommend for a 20" lcd monitor?
Q. I've been looking at Planar and ViewSonic. Each of them has a model I like, but I don't want to overlook something else really good. There are so many choices out there and I've done enough searching and reading reviews to know I'd like some opinions about my specific needs.

I need height adjustable. I think I should be able to get 8ms response, 800:1 contrast and 600+ (?) brightness in the monitor I buy without too much trouble.

My eyes tire easily and I need a larger screen to help with that. I do mostly office-type work. I expect to be doing a little more photo or video in the near future - not professional. I'm not a gamer, but I need really good graphics to help my eyes. I want LCD, also, to reduce my radiation exposure.

I'm also interested in any opinions about buy at a store, or buy online.

Thanks for the help.

A. i dont really have a suggestion but i know a site that gives reviews, ratings and online store pricing comparisons just click the link below

How to repair stuck pixel on lcd monitor?
Q. My LCD Monitor-L1972H suddenly the pixel is stuck, I wonder is it possible to repair ? thanks

A. I've recently repaired a stuck pixel on my 22" Fujitsu-Siemens monitor. I've bought the monitor just 1 month ago and the stuck pixel appeared 1 week after buying the monitor.
Well, "repair" is much to say. After I've notice it, I've run a program "dead pixel buddy" I think, to check if it's indeed a defective pixel. The pixel was stuck on green, but I still found it hard to believe. So I've just touched the area very gently with my fingertip, because it seemed to me it could be a small drop of water or a grain of dust. The pixel started blinking rapidly with the same green color. I've touched it again and the green color dissapeard (and the pixel displayed the correct color). Running the little test program again showed no defective pixels.
I did the whole "repair" thing with my bare finger and I left no fingerprint (I've touched the "pixel" really gently") but, of course, if you try this I would recommend covering your finger in a clean tissue.
After I repaired the pixel I was wondering I somebody else happened the same and I found other similar stories too - including some how-to's that involve switching on and of the monitor. But in my case that wasn't necessary.

Anyway, please note that you can't be sure my method or any of the others found on the web will work. Sometimes you can repair it, sometimes you just cant. But you don't lose anything if you try.

Can I get a clear picture from a laptop through a video switch to an XGA projector?

Q. I'm running 2 laptops & a dvd through a video switch to 2 lcd monitors & an XGA projector. I've connected everything with svideo cables (not VGA). When I'm using the laptops my lcd's are perfectly clear but the projected image through the XGA is incredibly blurry. Note that if I run the laptops to the projector with VGA the picture is clear. Is it the projector itselft or is this an issue that can't be resolved?

A. Not with S-Video.

If you run the projector straight from the VGA port then you'll get a very clear image (because the VGA connector was designed to handle computer graphics, though it can start to have problems when you push past UXGA) but you'll never get a good image from a computer using the TV out feature (S-Video just can't transmit a very clear image).

If the projector can handle PAL and you're outputting NTSC then switching to PAL might give you better image quality (as PAL tends to transmit with 576 visible scan lines while NTSC only transmits 480) although even then it'll be crap (just a bit less crappy than NTSC).

A VGA matrix would probably be better (and use the projector input select to get S-Video for the DVD player).

What is different between a progressive scaned and none progressive sacned image?
Q. Do they effect on the image quality or not. Or is the the progressice scan effective in all tvs?

A. Progressive scan creates a complete image in one field (1/60 sec in the US) by displaying every line one after the other. The other method, called interlace, takes two fields to complete an image; the first field displays only every other line (the odd-nombered lines, e.g.), and the second field displays the remaining lines. Interlace scanning was used when television was first developed to reduce the required bandwidth needed to transmit the signal. For images that are stationary or slow-moving, your eye retains the image of the first field while the second field is being displayed, so you have the illusion of a complete picture with all the scan lines.

There are two problems with interlacing: 1) fast-moving objects will contain only half the number of lines in any position and will suffer loss of resolution. Edges of moving objects will appear jagged. 2) Cathode ray tube (CRT) displays have difficulty keeping the spacing between the two sets of lines exactly right. This is especially noticeable in text images (even stationary ones) and this is the reason that computer monitors are always progressive scan, and have been from the early days.

New TV sets have gone away from CRTs and use "fixed pixel" displays such as plasma, LCD or DLP. All of these displays are progressive scan; program material that is interlaced is converted to progressive by the electronics in the TV.

I am wanting to buy a 22" lcd monitor. Can you give me any useful information about one?

Q. Right now i have a Dell 17" lcd monitor and was wanting a 22" Dell lcd monitor.I only use my computer for about 3 hours a day.Can you give me the pros and cons to buy one or not to buy one.I'm not really a computer genius but i would like to know if i would really benifit from a larger monitor. Thanks

If it means anything i am using a Radeon x300 graphics.

A. you will have a much larger viewing area than a 17 inch, MUCH MUCH MUCH. you iell be able to fit more programs/windows on one screen. if it was me id go for it cuse i just like bigger monitors, and i was in ur position once (or a similar one) and i went for it and was very happy i did. but if you want to save your money, dont get one or wait for a good deal, like i got mine for $200 at bestbuy :). make sure it has at least a 5 ms response time, dvi and vga input, and anything above a 700:1 contrast ratio. and thats its not some cheap brand, get one made by someone like westinghouse, LG, samsung, etc.. not some office depot only brand.
p.s.
if you get this monitor gaming performance (if you game) will be greatly decreased, expecially with that graphics card.

What configuration computer require for a engineering student?

Q. My son will be get admission for B.Tech Information Technology. He has to study four years to complete the course and he may be continue his master studies. So,please suggest a best configuration computer that will suit upto certain years.

A. 64bit, 3GHz, Quad-core processor
4GB RAM
500-1000GB SATA 2 hard drive
512MB video card
Blue Ray/DVD/CD burner
20" LCD monitor
That will give him a good start! I would get a desktop rather than a laptop. You get much more for your money; easier to upgrade, and last longer. Keep in mind that the state-of-the-art computer system you get today, will be outdated, but still functional in 4 years. The conventional computers that everyone uses today will be replaced with a "super" cell phone in less than 10 years!
I would let your son pick out the computer.

A. I would say a sound card, unless you wish to use the onboard, Also a SSD about 128 for your operating system, and your game launcher so it is quicker. You should not get a mini tower, though. You need a full tower to provide better air flow, to keep the processor and the video card cool. also with a mini it is hard to gaurantee everything will fit, let alone any upgrades later on.

The computer case is ATX size and you have a PCIe x 16 slot, so any modern graphics card plugs into it. Your problem is the 250 watt power supply that barely handles your system the way it is, and the old 2006 CPU that has the power of less than the cheapest of laptops.
You need a CPU upgrade as found on ebay and has to be compatible to your motherboard.
You need a stronger power supply as top mounted in the back.
You can use any number of graphics cards, but the CPU is low end and you don't get their performance. I would suggest any of GT 640, HD 7750, or HD 6670 as good value cards, but you must start with a power supply replacement and upgrade before the graphics card, and then you can use a CPU upgrade, but the motherboard is an old socket AM2 and cannot accept good newer CPUs.
