What is a good LCD monitor for doing some photo work (hobby not pro) Budget = $400?

Q. Looking for a monitor good for doing photo editing but not anything completely professional. In researching monitors, many mention the gaming, video, text capabilities but not photo. I just want something that will have good color accuracy so that if I print what I see it's fairly the same thing.

A. Wait, maybe your budget is actually $500? Isn't that what you said, $500?

What 1080p LCD monitor is the best for me?

Q. I want a 1920x1080 LCD monitor. 16:9 aspect ratio. A low response time and a high contrast ratio. With no less than 1 VGA (analog) port, 1 DVI (digital) port. And a HDMI port if there is one would also be nice, but i dont need it. And my budget is around 200 but i will consider going over that.

A. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010190020%201106217860&name=1920%20x%201080

What kind of lcd monitors are suitable for ps3 gaming?
Q. what kind of lcd monitors are suitable for ps3 gaming? just need to make sure it has a dvi or hdmi port right? and make sure it is hdcp compliant right? is the aspect ratio important? what about things like 720p etc
if a monitor supports only 1280x1024 resolution, which is 4:3 (right?), is it still compatible with ps3 gaming?

A. It should be HDCP compliant and ideally have a HDMI input, but DVI will work as well. If it only has VGA input (almost all new monitors now have at least one digital input) then you will need to use a transcoder box.
Many PS3 games are in 16:9 widescreen, so ideally you would want a monitor in that aspect ratio. Any resolution should look fine, but 1920x1080 resolution is needed to fully resolve every pixel in 1080p games. Anything higher than 1920x1080 is unnecessary and may actually degrade picture quality.
Fast response time is an important specification on LCD/LED monitors as well. Ideally, it should be no greater than 5 milliseconds.
LED monitors offer better contrast and color, but are more expensive than conventional LCD monitors.

A SXGA (1280x1024) monitor should be able to play the games, but you will either have letterboxing (black bars at the top and bottom) or a vertically stretched picture. SXGA monitors can display 720p perfectly. Set the aspect ratio of the game to 4:3 or Full if possible. Note that many LCD SXGA monitors are actually 5:4 aspect ratio.

what's the difference between ghosting and motion blur on an LCD monitor?

Q. I think my LCD monitor has it bad while playing games with a response time of 25ms, NEC LCD 1980sxi.

A. Yeah, that's pretty low-spec for a monitor. motion blur should not affect you when you're simply chaning your point of view. Also, motion blur is a desirable effect while ghosting is not.

What is the difference betweeen an HD tv and a lcd monitor?
Q. I have a normal flat screen tv, i am planning to buy a new HDTV or lcd monitor ( depending on which is better) . The only reason i will be using my display unit will be for gaming ( using my xbox 360). Any suggestiions on which is best for gaming?

A. Jes - if ALL you will use this for is games, a monitor is fine. However, to get the very best, and most authoritative advice on the very best monitors available for gaming use, post your question in the 'Games & Gear' forum, especially in the Xbox sub-forum. That's where all the gameing experts hang out. Good luck!

What is the best monitor brand that I can use for my ps3?
Q. What is the best monitor brand that I can use for my ps3?I need an monitor that can support the resolution of 1080p for my ps3. I also have a question if a monitor has the max resolution of 1980x1080 does it mean it can support 1080p?Thanks.

A. Get Samsung PX2370, its awesome. On cnet website its the best reviewed monitor. I bought it 2 months ago for my ps3 and its a treat to play games on it. It supports1080p resolution which means 1920x1080 (not 1980x1080, there is no such resolution like 1980x1080). And its very thin & sexy. Here is a link:

Can I use a LCD monitor to play my xbox 360 and watch DVDs?

Q. I am planning to buy an xbox 360 arcade. But I need a television. And I was looking online and I saw that monitors are cheaper then televisions. So can I? And if I can't is there any cords outputs I need to buy to make it
possible? Thank you!
Oh and it has a VGA thing if that helps you

A. To use your XBox 360 with a computer VGA monitor, all you need is the Microsoft HDAV VGA cable set: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874103025

No need for any rube goldberg multiple adapter contraptions.

Hope this helps.

What are the dangers of operating CRT monitors at low temperatures?
Q. I am getting an arcade cabinet made in 2002 with a 27" CRT monitor inside it. I have to keep it in my garage which is uninsulated. I am investigating potential winter use, but have heard that CRTs and cold weather do not get along.

What is the lowest operating temperature for a CRT monitor? What happens if you run it below this temperature?

A. CRT monitors are not that affected by cold. Condensation would only happen if you took a cold object, like a monitor, from the cold (your garage) into a warm environment (the house) where the humidity in the air would then condense on the cold surfaces. Otherwise condensation is not a concern.

CRT's will take a little bit to warm up, as they use heaters in the tubes to generate enough heat to produce the electrons, but otherwise they will work just fine.

Now LCD's and cold weather can be an issue, as they would become slow to respond and potentially could freeze and break if cold enough, due to the liquid crystals inside reacting with the cold, but I've not had one break on me yet with temps down below zero.

What brand of LCD TV would work best as a computer monitor?

Q. Gonna be building a brand new computer almost specifically for gaming and want to know if anyone has any input with experiences on different TVs. The computer I am currently using is hooked up to a 26" vizio and while its okay I'm looking to go to something in the 40" range since im getting the new comp. Would really appreciate some suggestions and certain specifications that are a must have for this new TV. Thank you in advance!

A. Plasma is the only way to go for gaming. Get a 42" 1080p Plasma by Panasonic, its the smallest they make, with a 15.8 GBps or greater transfer rate HDMI cable. Panasonic bought Pioneer's panel technology when they went out of business. Plasmas don't have that screen burn issue any more either. Plasmas have 0.00001ms or something like that pixel response, and true 600hz refresh rate. (600 pictures per second). Remember, your taking 1,920 pixels by 1,080 pixels and putting them on a screen, the bigger the screen, the bigger the pixels are getting. Stretching the picture, thus giving you a fuzzier image. The rumors that its all about viewing distance, response 5ms response time tv's being adequate, that the human eye cannot detect anything past 60 HZ are reviews from retards. I have tested many tv's, and the differences are HUGE, there is a very noticeable difference between 2ms and 1ms response time monitors. The problem with 240hz and 120hz tv's is its all picture processing and creates a fair amount of input lag and unnatural movement. LCD's are terrible for gaming, no matter what the refresh rate or pixel response time and will ALWAYS suffer from motion blur, very noticeable in first person shooter games, the background will get very distorted whenever you move. If you want a small screen, benefit would be a very sharp picture and less money, get a Samsung 2770FH monitor, its a 27", with a 10.2 GBps transfer rate HDMI cable, and be sure to set the response time setting to fastest. They are a 1ms pixel response time monitor, 60hz which is ps3's native output refresh rate, and the reason pixel response is important is because the lower the response time, the sharper the picture stays. Get internet that is at least 1 mega byte download speed, and always set whatever screen you get to game mode.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of an LCD TV compared to a CRT TV?
Q. Well, there is many great advantages for using a TFT monitor instead of a CRT monitor, firstly because of its size, it is much smaller and thinner and can come in various screen sizes such as 17", 19" and 22". Also in a TFT monitor the resolution is much greater and can also work with a HDMI slot which gives a HD (High Definition) picture, and a much greater experience,

A. LCD advantages:
Very thin panel
Much lighter weight
Available in a wide variety of screen sizes
Easier to build high-resolution variants (720p and 1080p)
Overall greater brightness
Lower power consumption
Less heat produced
Less likely to burn in
Screen is always flat

LCD disadvantages:
Higher cost
Input lag
More fragile screen
Dead pixels possible
Narrower viewing angle
Slow response time / motion blur
Cannot accurately reproduce full gamut of NTSC/PAL colors
Low contrast and poor black levels
Native resolution means non-HD content looks poor

Can I force a higher resolution on my PC and monitor?

Q. I have a middle of the road eMachines PC with a 22 inch LCD monitor. My resolution settings are the highest they can go right now (1920x1080)

Can I "force" or trick my PC or monitor into a higher resolution setting??? Is this possible and how?

A. No. If it were a CRT monitor, you MIGHT be able to ever slightly at the sacrifice of refresh rate (vertical scan rate), but pushing the hardware to its limits can cause failure.

LCD monitors have one fixed resolution at which everything must be displayed.

What's the ideal viewing distance from a 22" LCD monitor?
Q. Can anyone tell me what the ideal viewing distance is from a 22" widescreen LCD monitor (resolution 1680x1050) ? Thank you.

A. 7 feet

How Do I setup a Multiple Monitor Computer?

Q. I would like to setup three or four monitors on my computer. I want the screens to have individual properties but also be connected in a panoramic fashion. Can I add more video cards or should I get a ready made unit that supports several monitors? If so, where's a good place to look for one?

A. The Three main ways to Setup Multiple Monitors

1) You can replace or add an extra video card to your existing computer, depending on how many monitors you wish to support. Although this sounds easy enough, this is a rather complex solution for a beginner, especially when trying to find a compatible graphics card. For this reason, I am going to write an entirely seperate post on that topic and will link to it here, very soon.

Multiple Monitor Graphics Cards:
http://www.multi-monitors.com/category_s/1914.htm

2) You can get a USB to VGA Adapter, or USB to DVI Adapter that will allow you to add an extra monitor to your computer via any USB2.0 Port. You can also add multiple extra monitors by using multiple adapters. This is a great option for viewing documents, surfing the web, using Microsoft Office and many other business tasks. This is not a good option for intense graphical situations such as HDTV, Blu-ray, Gaming and 3D / CAD Workstation applications. For those types of scenarios, it is highly recommended that you purchase a high-powered multi-monitor workstation or a Matrox Dual or Triple Head2Go.

Multiple Monitor Adapters:

3) You can buy a pre-manufactured multiple monitor computer. The best place to purchase a multiple monitor computer is at: http://Multi-Monitors.com. They carry a multi-monitor computer line called SUPER PC that can support from 2 to 12 monitors (or more if you ask).

how to tilt the laptop screen to get true color in photography?

Q. I'm just starting out in learning photoshop to edit my photos. I only have a laptop and depending on how far forward or backward I put the screen it changes the colors dramatically. At what position should the screen be to show the true color so that it prints the same as I see it on the screen. FYI I have already color calibrated. Thanks!

A. Only when you're dead square onto it will the colour be right, you can always connect an old big, heavy, bulky CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitor to it and not have any problems very cheaply, even free these days. Calibrated it will give you truer, brighter colour.

You have to spend a lot of money to get even close the the accuracy and quality of the CRT image with an LCD monitor.

How is the Dell studio 17 for photography?
Q. Just need to know about the screen. I currently use a Dell monitor 17'' nothing really special and it's fine, I will still use it with my laptop but I'm wondering how much difference there is between the two.

A. Until the monitor is calibrated and profiled, NO monitor will provide you with the information you need if you are attempting to retouch image files or adjust colour. This applies to notebook computers as well.

Since the only LCD monitors that be used professionally by retouchers cost from $2,500 and up, most of us poor photographers still use CRT monitors that have been calibrated and profiled. We do this each week to assure colour accuracy.

Do you have a calibration tool like the Pantone huey, I1Display 2 or ColorMunki?

http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/pantone_huey.html

http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=788

http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=1114

The huge plus for the Studio 17 are as follows:

* Intel® Core™ i5 CPU
* 64-bit operating system
* 4-pin IEEE 1394 port
* 54 mm ExpressCard slot
* 8-in-1 Media Card Reader

I would add 6 gb of RAM if you intend to do any video or RAW file processing

What is the best type(LCD, LED, Plasma) of tv for console gaming?
Q. I think I'm going to go with the brand Samsung so really I'm wanting to know if LCD, LED, or Plasma will give the best gaming experience. Longevity is also a small factor.

A. Go with a 42" plasma by panasonic, its the smallest they make, with a 15.8 GBps or greater transfer rate HDMI cable. Panasonic bought Pioneer's panel technology when they went out of business. Can you connect a PS3 to a computer monitor?

Q. I was wondering how can I connect a ps3 to a monitor using VGA or DVD-D connector. I have a LCD monitor and I would like to a ps3 connected to it. How do I about the sound?

A. Hiya Andre,

Yes, this can be done easily with a VGA box which is made just for this type of purpose. Here are some links to help you hook up and get it running quick. As far as the sound goes, you can attach to the monitor if it has speakers, otherwise you will need a small pair of Walkman / PC type speakers. You can also run the audio through a home stereo and some portables.

1) Magic VGA Box, seems to have the best reviews by users and is priced a bit higher then the others:
http://www.easybuy2000.com/store/compute...

2. XCM 1080p VGA box, compatible with the Nintendo line of consoles. Looks neat.
http://www.totalconsole.com/servlet/the-207/XCM-1080p-VGA-box/Detail

3. The YPbPR to RGBHV may be the one for you. It has a switch for 2 consoles:
http://www.mayflash.com/vgabox/vga001/vga001.htm

Basically, you plug in the console, then the monitor and fire everything up. You can also switch to a computer if you want.

GOOD LUCK!!

What would be the best brand to buy a LCD flat screen?

A. Filipino rin ako Bro kaya alam ko na naghahanap ka ng Mura pero may Quality diba?

I recomend a "View Sonic" good price for your money..
Good Specs like the Branded ones pero mas mura at maraming good reviews sa Monitor na ito...

Pero I get a "Samsung 940 BW" with 4 Ms response Time ..

What is the difference between TFT Monitor and LCD Moniter? Which is the best? and Why?

Q. There are many different types of Moniters in the market-CRT, TFT, LCD etc. I would like to know is there any difference in display,? Which is the best for the eye to view without much strain ?

A. A TFT monitor uses thin-film transistor technology for the ultimate LCD or liquid crystal display. LCD monitors, also called flat panel displays, are replacing the old style cathode ray tubes (CRTs) as the display of choice. Nearly all LCD monitors today use TFT technology.

The benefit of a TFT monitor is a separate, tiny transistor for each pixel on the display. Because each transistor is so small, the amount of charge needed to control it is also small. This allows for very fast re-drawing of the display, as the image is re-painted or refreshed several times per second.

Prior to TFT, passive matrix LCD displays could not keep up with fast moving images. A mouse dragged across the screen, for example, from point A to point B, would disappear between the two points. A TFT monitor can track the mouse, resulting in a display that can be used for video, gaming and all forms of multimedia.

A typical 17-inch TFT monitor has about 1.3 million pixels and 1.3 million transistors. That leaves a significant chance for a malfunctioning transistor or two on the panel. Upon delivery, a TFT monitor can have "dead pixels" for this reason. A dead pixel is a pixel whose transistor has failed, thereby creating no display image. On a solid black background, dead pixels will stand out as tiny dots of red, white or blue. Most manufacturers will not replace a TFT monitor that has less than 11 dead pixels. Often, a TFT monitor won't have any dead pixels —- always the hope for any buyer, though dead pixels are not noticeable unless located in a critical position on the screen.

There are only a handful of TFT factories that turn out panels for all brands of TFT monitors. Since there is a given failure rate -- considering how many transistors are on each panel -- only so many of the displays come out bearing no dead pixels, while a certain percentage bear an acceptable number of dead pixels and other panels are unusable. The panels that bear some dead pixels are often sold to be used in discount models. If looking for a TFT monitor, it is a good idea to read feedback provided by buyers at popular online retail sites. By scanning the reviews for several brands, it is easy to get a feel for which models have consistently good panels that rarely bear dead pixels.

A TFT monitor delivers crisp text, vibrant color and an improved response time for multimedia applications. If interested in gaming, video editing or other multimedia applications, look for a TFT monitor with a response rate of 16ms or less. The DVI (digital visual/video interface) is also a good feature to get, as it will make the monitor more future-proof.

i broke my sony camera, should i invest in a new sony digital camera or buy a canon?
Q. i've heard canon brand is better than sony, but since i already have the battery, charger and memory card i was thinking about getting another sony..

so do i buy a Sony camera or go for a Canon?????

what's your advice?

A. Tough choice, but think the Canon below would really be the best.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Please read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $134.99 at Best Buy or $116.30 at Amazon.com
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be severely damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with safety timer, temperature monitor, and trickle charge technology ($9.76) at Walmart. For longer life, use Duracell 2000mAh batteries and a full cycle charge monthly. To preserve battery charge, use the view finder and not the LCD screen when possible.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices.

What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.
My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/di

Is there a search engine that SAVES energy with LCD monitors?

Q. For LCD monitors, Blackle.com and Earthle.com do NOT save more energy that Google.com. In fact, they use a little bit more. Blackle.com and Earthle.com only conserve energy with the older, glass computer screens. So my question is, is there a search engine designed to save energy for LCD monitors?

A. Hi there ELMOtional,

Regarding a search engine that will save energy via an LCD monitor, the energy use will not change regardless of which search engine you are using as the power in an LCD is used via a fluorescent tube / tubes and are always on whilst an LCD is switched on.

There are ways in which you can set things up to run on Carbon Neutral energy.

If you go to http://www.homebrewpower.co.uk or email andy@homebrewpower.co.uk he will advise you on how, for example, to set up a small solar panel, charge controller, batteries and an inverter so you can power your PC and monitor from the SUN.

He sells kits and also provides a complete installation package for what he describes as Eco Sockets.

He even sells a DVD on how to create your own carbon neutral electricity for free!

Hope this helps you out x

What is the standard warranty for LCD Monitors of Dell UK ?
Q. I bought it from PCWorld UK, dont know if the manufacturer warranty is valid ?

A. If you bought it retail, then unless you purchased an extended warranty - you get the legally mandated 1 year warranty from the date of purchase.

If you purchased it using a credit card (instead of a debit card) check with your credit card provider to see if they give you extended warranties.

What kind of TV should I get for college?

Q. I'm going off to college Fall of this year (2012), and I looking to buy a TV for my dorm room. I have my own dorm room (no roommate) that is the size of a smaller bedroom. I would maybe use this TV for an xbox 360 and maybe a monitor for a computer if I needed to. I'm mainly looking for an LCD TV because I heard that those last the longest. I would want to keep the price lower than $500. Any suggestions?

A. sony all the way

Would buying an ultra HD monitor be the wise choice with my system?

Q. HP Pavilion p6674y Desktop PC
HP 2010 Series Wide LCD Monitor
Windows 7 Home Premium
ATI Radeon HD 4200 video card

My computer can play HD videos (720p and 1080p) but the colors are always REALLY dark or the playback is choppy. My drivers are up to date, but I can't help but think the problem is the monitor (which I assume is pretty middle-of-the-road quality). I want to be able to watch clear 720p and 1080p videos.

I'm looking at the Asus VS247H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED-Lit Monitor, but don't want to spend the money if it's my whole CPU that's the issue.

Thanks!

A. I really wish people would stop using the term "CPU" to refer to their entire machine. But that's besides the point...

I doubt that the monitor is your problem (your monitor doesn't really have much of a say over how choppy your video is). If I had to venture a guess I'd say the problem if your graphics card: the Radeon 4200 is kind of lower end.

My recommendation would be to buy a new graphics card. If all your doing is watching videos then you don't need to spend money on a gaming card or anything - just a basic $30-$50 card should cut it for you.

How do you modify the magnet effect of the windows 7 taskbar?
Q. I have been on the windows 7 beta for a while, and just recently I decided to start pinning programs to the taskbar.

However, I would like it if the pinned stuff went to the right instead of mixing with my already open stuff (I have a 24 inch Samsung LCD monitor 1920x1200 resolution). I hate having a huge untidy taskbar filled with random pinned stuff AND open programs.

Anyone know what can be done?

A. I don't think that's possible... What is wrong with that, anyway? I didn't find it confusing... I suggest you just separate the programs you use most often from the programs that you use less often.

How to have audio on Xbox 360 via HDMi on LCD Monitor without having the LCD connected to a Desktop?

Q. Is it possible to connect the Xbox 360 to one of my LCD monitors with HDMi and still have audio without having to connect the PC in and other stuff ... The problem is that the actual LCD Monitor does not have incorporated speakers ... so can normal speakers be connected to my xbox using some cables or extention. Much appreciated

A. Yes, you can do that. You have two options:

1. You can use HDMI for video and the optical audio output on your Xbox if you have one of the model with both.

2. You can use HDMI for video and buy the A/V HD adapter that allows you to use either optical or the red/white rca stereo hookups. You can find these adapters on amazon.

And, of course, you'll need a sound system/speakers that can use whichever connection you go with. You can can an adapter that will go from rca stereo to 3.5mm for portable speaker systems.

how do you connect external speakers to my 23 inch acer lcd monitor?
Q. my lcd monitor has internal speakers but they are not that good. i currently have my xbox 360 connected to it via hdmi cable. my monitor has an audio in input in the back, but when i try to connect my external speakers to it, sound does not come through the external speakers but comes through the lcd monitor speakers. someone help?

A. Well since there is no Audio Out input then you can't use external speakers on the monitor itself.

Q. I've just bought a macbook and need a large lcd monitor to work with it. I decided not to get an apple monitor as I was told I could get just as good a monitor by another company for less money. Any recommendations would be great. It needs to be as good as - or better than the apple cinema display. Thanks!

A. It'd be good for you to check Viewsonic monitors, they're probably the best in these days, especially if you're a designer and care about things like color, contrast, brightness and pixel quality. Hope that I helped you. The page's the following www.viewsonic.com

Any practical way to connect a cable TV box to LCD monitor?
Q. I have an Explorer 4200 cable TV box with RCA jacks, RF coax and an S-video port, and a Gateway 900W LCD computer monitor with both DVI and VGA ports. Is there any way of connecting the cable box to the monitor with simple cables, or will it require an expensive converter of some kind?

A. Just call your cable TV company and ask for a digital HD cable box.

Most cable companies like Time Warner, Comcast, Cox, Cablevision, etc. all offer free upgrades to an HD cable box.

These digital HD cable boxes usually have either a DVI or HDMI output port, which you can connect to any HDCP-compliant LCD Monitor. (Yes, DVI is compatible with HDMI). This works most of the time.

If by some chance this doesn't work, then start thinking about spending money for a converter or something.

Hope this helps.

Where can I find a generic driver for my new 19 inch LCD monitor?

What amplifier i need for my car PC project?

Q. I have a 2008 VW golf GT with the standard 8 speakers package and i am planning to put a car pc. I will remove the oem Head Unit and put a 7" inch lcd monitor. I will need an amplifier to connect the speakers to it and then the amplifier to the carpc. My question is what type of amplifier i will need? I will have to buy 2 4-channel amplifiers?

Thanks in advance

A. A 4-channel with an optional mono amp for subs.

For a "carputer" the idea is to have a "non-hard drive" based computer that runs stand alone Windows XP/Vista from a Bootable USB drive that runs the music player of your choice using plugins.

Your MP3's are stored on another USB drive that can be removed for editing.

This all ties into your sound system (amps, subs/speakers).

No hard drive means nothing will crash. A touch screen display is really the only other peice of equipment needed that can be custom mounted in your dash as you say.

Look up BartPE and Sherpya. These two guys found a way to run the full GUI of Windows XP on a USB drive (under 600 Mb).

A shuttle style computer is all you need for the computer. You can even have 5.1 or 7.1 Dolby digital.

Here is a good place to start:

A. A half a million colors.

Why do old crt monitors have better picture quality than lcds?

Q. I have a 22" 1920x1080 lcd monitor on my computer. Well the other day I went over my friends house and he had a old CTX 17" crt monitor, and it was the clearest thing I ever seen. Perfect black levels, very crisp text, and the colors were much richer. Why does his crt have a better picture than my 22" 1080p full hd monitor?

A. It really depends on your LCD monitor, there are cheaper models with less mature technology, whereas CRTs have been around a long time and hence it's cheap to produce good models, and they don't (afaik) make them anymore.

Try look at high-end IPS monitors, which do have much better colour reproduction, viewing angles and then the price :P.

People moved to LCD, not because of image quality, but for energy-efficiency and how light it is.

How has computer LCD monitors changed over time?
Q. i need help! pls tell me how has the computer LCD monitors changed and developed over the past years!!!!! a million thx to u all!

A. Yes.

The biggest change has been the drop in price.

TN technology has been a mainstay of LCD panels, but has become faster to respond and the introduction of prismatic layers has improved the viewing angle.

Alternative liquid crystal orientations have improved viewing angles - In-Plane-Switching (IPS) and a variety of vertical alignments and also has better gray scale tracking for luminance and colour. Usually at some level of price, brightness and response time.

Improvements in the scaling algorithms has made the display of non-native resolutions better (but still not especially good)

Improvements in the DLP processor in the monitor have given better uniformity and better response time (by overdriving the pixel for 1 cycle to get the crystals to move faster)

Improvements in the CCFL backlights have made them brighter.

Improvements in the colour dyes have produced better colour ranges.

The breakout of LCD TVs has also meant that prices have dropped and screen sizes have gotten larger as the manufacturers have set up production lines for bigger and bigger pieces of glass.

What cables do I need to connect a Mac laptop to an LG W2343T-PF 23-Inch Class Widescreen LCD Monitor?

Q. I just bought an LG W2343T-PF 23-Inch Class Widescreen LCD Monitor and I want to be able to connect it to my Apple laptop so I have a larger screen. What cables do I need to purchase to make that happen?

how can i use an external monitor as my primary monitor for my laptop?
Q. I tried it once, connected a LCD monitor to my laptop, and it worked. the problem is, all i see on the external monitor is my wallpaper. No icons, task bars, mouse pointer, everything but my wallpaper. I tried changing the settings on Control Panel>Appearances and Themes>Display>Settings but the "Use this device as the primary monitor" check box is disabled. Do i need to install any drivers or install programs?

Oh, by the way, my laptop's video card is Nvidia GeForce 7200 Go.

A. Have you tried toggling your Function Keys (FN) for the Monitor display. To do this hold down the FN key on your keyboard and find the corresponding key on the key board. There will be a tiny picture of a couple of monitors on the key. On my IBM thinkpad it is F7. Generally there are 3 toggle settings:
1. Laptop monitor is on
2. Laptop Monitor is off and your external monitor is on
3. Both are on
I hope this helps.

Is there a cable that can turn my lcd monitor into a tv?

Q. Lcd has a vga connector to it and I want to connect my monitor to my dvd recorder that has a tv tuner. To basically convert my lcd monitor into a tv without using one of those converters like TVBox. Can it be done?

A. You need to have an input on the LCD monitor which matches one of the outputs on the DVD unit. Most LCD units these days accept a variety of inputs. List the respecitve inputs and outputs, and if you find a match, the appropriate cable will do the trick.

Should I get an LCD monitor without a tv tuner or an LCD TV with tuner?
Q. Should I get an LCD monitor without a tv tuner or an LCD TV with tuner? I'm thinking about getting a 30-32" screen for my computer that I will use a lot (and mostly for computing purposes and probably watching Blu-Ray and Netflix on). It seems like LCD monitors without tuners that are 30" are significantly more expensive than LCD TV's. Why is that?

Which should I get?

A. I would suggest getting one without, and buying a tuner for your computer. Only 70 bucks at best buy and you can get a even better monitor without the tuner. It sounds like you are getting a TV that doubles as a Computer Monitor which in most cases is not good. A true monitor will give you the best quality compared to a tv with Monitor Capabilities. Also you can hook up your Cable to the TV tuner and DVR shows, and save yourself some money but not having a dvr from the cable company if you have one already. Go Single Monitor Only, you will be much happier, and buy the tuner separate. Link below for Tuner Cost. I am sure there are cheaper out there but this is the one I use and it has been great.

Cheap HDMI Field Monitor?
Q. Is there any cheap HDMI field monitor, for under 100$ preferably? At least 7"

A. There is nothing "cheap" about HDMI field monitors, but for around $200 you can find a number of them

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=hdmi+field+monitor&tag=mh0b-20&index=electronics&hvadid=1675750756&ref=pd_sl_4qji5j6alk_e

But for any quality, you need to consider something like this

You did not mention if you were using this monitor with a dSLR. If so, you need to spend some time on this link

And this

By the time you add all the accessories necessary to make your dSLR a viable video camera, you could buy a real video camera

Q. Im looking a DSLR for macro photography. I'm only just a beginner. What brand and unit of DSLR camera can you recommend to me? IMy only budget is 450 USD - 560 USD

A. List of the best DSLR camera available now under $550:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_36_5?bbn=3017941&qid=1331655443&rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A!493964%2Cn%3A502394%2Cn%3A281052%2Cn%3A3017941&rnid=386442011&low-price=300&high-price=550&x=7&y=9&tag=faumioe-20

Out of these i recommend the Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. It is one of the best cameras available now and in your Price range. It has great features and impressive results. Some of its features are:

- Includes 3x 18-55mm Zoom-NIKKOR VR Image Stabilization lens
- Full 1080p HD Cinematic Video with full-time autofocus and sound
- Easy-To-Use Nikon Guide Mode with intuitive controls and on-board assistance
- Capture images to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards

Pros:
- Better image quality and lower noise at high ISO with the D3100
- MUCH MUCH lighter, which will be nice when traveling
- Larger LCD screen
- 11 focus points, including 3D focus which tracks the motion of the subject or camera.
- 1080p Video
- 14 megapixels

- Cannot use old 50mm 1.8 lens.
- As of 10/1/2010, Camera RAW for the D3100 is not supported in Photoshop or Lightroom. Need to shoot .jpg + RAW or use Nikon Capture NX2 for RAW files.
- Can hear the lens focusing when recording video.
- No depth of field preview.
- Can't use wireless remote

How to secure flat panel monitor better?

Q. I just bought two 22" LCD monitors on put them on my glass desk. I have a keyboard tray with my keyboard and mouse on them. Whenever I type, the monitors shake because of the cheap keyboard tray. Even when I put the keyboard on the glass where the monitors are sitting they still shake. Anybody have any ideas as to how to secure them better so they don't wobble around when I type? It's annoying!
Yes, they "clicked in" when I put them together. I can't believe they wobble so much.

A. first of all are they secure in their individual stands? you might want to double check that. i put mine on a lazy susan so i can easily turn or move but it also gave it more stability.

I want to connect 3 LCD monitors i in a Single Computer. Pls advise How & what is cable specification PLS hlp
Q. want to connect 3 LCD monitors i in a Single Computer. Pls advise How & what is cable specification PLS hlp
The type of Cable and the maximum length

Thanks

A. The people who have answered are all complete idiots, with no understanding about anything. So let me simplify this for you..

Unless you want to spend $300 to buy garbage, the Matrox Triple Header ToGo, then use my method. The MTH is a piece of garbage - it tricks your computer into thinking you are only using 1 monitor, and splits the signal into 3 different ones. You sacrifice a ton of quality, and I can almost guarantee you your computer will not be able to support it.

There are multiple things you can do depending on what kind of video card you already have, and the motherboard of your computer. If your computer supports AGP, it will most likely support only PCI (not PCIe, the 'e' meaning 'express'). If so, buy an AGP card that has dual DVI output (almost every video card these days has that), and then buy a regular PCI video card (NOT PCIe). You can connect your two monitors via DVI to your AGP video card, and the third monitor to the PCI video card. The rest is software configurations in Windows Display manager. If your monitors are VGA (if they are CRT monitors, a.k.a. not LCD flat panel monitors), then you will need to buy a VGA to DVI convertor for each CRT monitor. If all your monitors are flat panels, you do not have to worry about this.

If your computer does not support AGP, then it supports PCIe and PCI. Buy a PCIe card with dual-DVI support, and either another PCIe video card or another PCI video card - they can be as crappy or as high-end as you want. The rest remains the same.

Almost all modern video cards will support 2 monitors each. However, there are no motherboards that are still being produced that support more than 2 AGP cards. Therefore, you can have two times as many monitors as your computer can support video cards, assuming each video card has dual output. However, Windows XP has a cap at 10 monitors; I believe Windows Vista increases this cap. If not, I believe there is a patch you can find on Google that will allow you to support more than 10 monitors on Windows XP.

All you other idiots need to learn before you spew off garbage.

What is the diff between a TFT-LCD and LCD monitors? Which is good for eyes in terms of long working?

Q. I wanna buy a 19" LCD monitor and currently weighing between HP and Samsung monitors. All HP monitors are called LCD monitors as per the package details as well as per their website, while all Samsung monitors are called TFT LCD Monitors. I am a bit confused, as I work a lot on PC, I would like to protect my eyes and health. Can someone help me with correct answer?

A. LCD monitors use Liquid Crystal Diodes.

TFT is an LCD monitor that uses Thin Film Transistor technology.

Other types are:
TN+Film - Twisted Nematic
IPS - In Plane Switching
MVA - Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment
PVA - Patterned Vertical Alignment
S-PVA - Super Patterned Vertical Alignment.

TFT is the most common today, and LCD is accepted as being TFT-LCD. Usually you only see a differentiation if it's one of the other technologies. The other types all have their advantages and disadvantages, but TFT is the cheapest to manufacture today.

For your eyes, you want an LCD. LCD's are on, and change when they change vs. a CRT which has a refresh rate. In a CRT, the phosphorus is charged and glows, but then dims very quickly. The refresh recharges it, but there is a dimming and brightening affect. The higher the refresh rate, the less noticable it is to you.

Within an LCD, if cost is no object, you want an IPS (better) or S-PVA (best). They will have the highest contrast ratios and brightest screens. Be prepared to pay, and pay well for this luxury though.

Is there a LCD monitor which can connect to a PS2?
Q. I need to buy an LCD monitor, preferably 21 inch or 22 inch which has connectors for PS2 and preferably PS3 also (though the latter is not important).
I already have a Z-5500 speakers which are said to be the best in pc speakers, I also would like to get an LCD monitor which will make it really cool to play games on with my PS2.
Thanks.

A. i recommend Samsung Touch Of Color T220HD 22-inch LCD HDTV Monitor.
Touch of Color bezel - While the crystal-like bezel frame catches light beautifully, it actually reduces reflection of light off the bezel. And since the rich red color is injection molded for a blown glass effect, instead of spray painted, there is less environmental impact. It's easy on your eyes as well as on the environment
Dolby Digital Surround (3 W x 2 ch) An invisible speaker system with Dolby Digital Surround (3 W x 2 ch) gives sound quality to match the impressive picture.
10,000 - 1 Dynamic-Contrast Ratio - The ultra-wide range gives you blacks and whites that are full of detail, even under adverse lighting conditions (typically 1,000 - 1 static-contrast ratio)
300 cdm2 Brightness
Full HDTV monitor - The T220HD features a built-in full HD 1080p digital HDTV tuner, so you can watch both TV and HDTVDual HDMI inputs, DVI and VGA inputs / 2 HDMI connections

List Price: $679.00

What is the best light gun for a pc and lcd tv combo?

Q. Hi,

I'm using an lcd as a monitor for my computer and wanted to play some games with a light gun on MAME. Any suggestions?

A. I have always used Top gun and Top gun II http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1i-49-en-70-16s7.html you may need this program in some instances http://xoomer.virgilio.it/guncon2/

How can I change the resolution on the mame emulator?
Q. It seems that the default resolution for the emulator is a little blurry. I tried messing the options but didn't find anything that would let me make the picture more pixelated/grainy. Anyone find anything that I may have looked over? Oh, I am using a lcd moniter.

thanks

A. 1 are you using a video card?
2 are you speaking all games in general or specific games?
3 what size monitor are you using?

OKay generally you might change the monitor res or the videocards res. In a lot of the older games it has to do with the video freq. You need to also remember that MAME is an emulator and could be combining backgrounds, foregrounds and the game. (Bezels).

I'll give you more info soon.

Okay back here is a great article:

Here is the card http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainf.html I recommend in most cases people building arcade machines with the classic monitors.

How to clean the back of a glass screen on an lcd monitor?

Q. My Dell Monitor is an LCD monitor with a glass pane over the top. Some dirt got behind the glass screen and I was wondering how I would go about either cleaning it like it is or how to take off the glass pane to clean it like that.
There has to be a way to clean the glass panel. It's not attached to the screen directly so there's no reason for it to damage it

A. There is not any way to disassemble the monitor and have it work afterward

Best way to Hook my Laptop to my Monitor and Speakers?
Q. Whats the best way to hook my hk395 Dell Desktop SPeakers, and my Dell 17inch LCD Monitor to my Dell XPS Laptop? Also where would be the best place to pick up the necessary cables?

A. Your laptop is likely to have a VGA monitor output if it is recent. You then just use a normal monitor VGA cable to hook that up.

As for the speakers, put the cable into your headphones socket on your laptop.

About the monitor, you can probably have a dual screen setup going, which is awesome.
