22 inch monitor LCD for a desktop computer?
Q. I don't know what brand and model is the best for a 22inch LCD monitor. I have plan before to buy HP w2228h 22 inch LCD Monitor but I have read bad reviews for this one. It is so elegant but the reviews are bad.

Pls suggest me a brand and model that is best for gaming and watcing movies. Also a videocard that is suitable for it

A. Best Value - Hanns-G Hi-221DPB 22-inch
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PC display technology hasn't changed all that much in the past few years. The same LCD panel technology and CCFL backlights are still used in the majority of displays. As such, the somewhat dated Hanns-G Hi-221DPB offers a good overall if dated display at a very competitive price. Prices range from as low as $150 up to $180. The 22-inch panel uses the 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1680x1050 resolution. Brightness and contrast ratios are good as response times are quick a 5ms. It doesn't feature a newer HDMI port but does come with both a DVI-D and VGA connector. There are built-in 1W stereo speakers. Of course, to reduce costs, the screen only features a tilt adjustment and just a VGA cable.

Best Overall - HP LP2275w 22-inch
--------------------------------------------------------
Those who are looking for a display that can do just about anything, the HP LP2275w offers a very amazing screen. The 22-inch screen features a 1680x1050 resolution with 6ms response time and 92% NTSC color gamut. This gives the display a high level of color for those looking to do high quality graphics work while still providing sufficient response times for video or gaming. It uses a DVI-D port that is backward compatible with VGA video cards with the supplied DVI to VGA cable. It also features the new DisplayPort connector and cable. Also built into the monitor are several USB 2.0 ports. The heavy stand provides a stable base with tilt, height, swivel and pivot adjustments. Prices are around $350.

Best Gaming - LG W2286L 22-inch
---------------------------------------------------
The LG W2286L is their latest 22-inch series monitor that features a new LED backlit display to help improve contrast and improve color. Gamers will enjoy the deep blacks produced by the monitor when gaming and the fast 2ms response times will help keep motion blur to a minimum. It even features an auto-brightness sensor to adjust the brightness for when those gaming sessions run into the early morning hours. The display uses a standard 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1680x1050 resolution for excellent widescreen gaming support. Input connectors include two HDMI, a DVI-D and a standard VGA. Prices range around $200 to $230.

Best Multifunction - Samsung ToC T220HD 22-inch
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many people are looking to use their LCD monitors as more than just a computer display. The Samsung Touch of Class T220HD provides the ability to use the display for multiple video sources and even doubles as an HDTV with its built-in TV tuner. The 22-inch display does fall short of full 1080p HD support due to the 1680x1050 resolution but many might not find this a problem. Connectors for the display include HDMI, DVI-D, VGA and component. Color is good with a bright display and high contrast levels. The fast 5ms response time allow it to provide fast motion from videos or gaming without and frame ghosting. One downside is the stand that only features tilt adjust. Pricing ranges from $240 to $300.

Best Multitouch - Dell SX2210T 21.5-inch
---------------------------------------------------------------
Multi-touch is one of the new features of the Windows 7 operating system and a steady stream of new multi-touch enabled monitors is starting to come to market. The Dell SX2210T is one of the first available with the interface built into the display for use with Windows 7 PCs. The 21.5-inch display uses a 16:9 aspect ratio with a higher 1920x1080 resolution. Brightness is a bit lower than average but contrast ratios and response times are both very strong. Connectors include HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs plus a two USB 2.0 port. A USB cable is required to use the multi-touch functions. The screen even includes a built-in 2 megapixel webcam. Prices are a bit higher at $470.

Best Graphics - NEC Multisync P221W-BX-SV 22-inch
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even the highest end display for professional graphics require color calibration though. This is where the NEC Multisync P221W-BK-SV display is a great choice for the graphics professional. In addition to the 22-inch display that covers 96% of the AdobeRGB color gamut, it also includes the SpectraViewII color calibration unit to ensure that the screen is properly setup for color. The 22-inch display features a 1680x1050 resolution with a somewhat slower 8ms response time that is still acceptable for video but probably not suited for gaming. It features a VGA and DVI-D connector with HDCP. The stand is fully adjustable for height, tilt, pivot and swivel. Prices are around $700 to $800.

A new monitor?
Q. I want to buy a new 17in monitor for my pc ( not crt ) .
What is the difference between plasma, lcd and tft (or something like that) ?
Which one is better ? and of which company? I had wery bad expirience with my LG monitors.

A. Plasma and LCD panels may look similar, the flat screen and thin profile is where the similarities end.
LCD ADVANTAGES over Plasma include:
1. No burn-in of static images.
2. Cooler running temperature.
3. No high altitude use issues.
....
I find a review of the difference between plasma and lcd. you can have a look:
http://www.cnet.com.au/tvs/0,239035250,240036500,00.htm
If you want to buy a new 17in monitor, you can try Viewsonic VA1703wb 17 inch Widescreen LCD, it is great. A decent deal for it is only $200.

Can you connect a PS3 to a computer monitor?

Q. I was wondering how can I connect a ps3 to a monitor using VGA or DVD-D connector. I have a LCD monitor and I would like to a ps3 connected to it. How do I about the sound?

A. Hiya Andre,

Yes, this can be done easily with a VGA box which is made just for this type of purpose. Here are some links to help you hook up and get it running quick. As far as the sound goes, you can attach to the monitor if it has speakers, otherwise you will need a small pair of Walkman / PC type speakers. You can also run the audio through a home stereo and some portables.

1) Magic VGA Box, seems to have the best reviews by users and is priced a bit higher then the others:
http://www.easybuy2000.com/store/compute...

2. XCM 1080p VGA box, compatible with the Nintendo line of consoles. Looks neat.
http://www.totalconsole.com/servlet/the-207/XCM-1080p-VGA-box/Detail

3. The YPbPR to RGBHV may be the one for you. It has a switch for 2 consoles:
http://www.mayflash.com/vgabox/vga001/vga001.htm

Basically, you plug in the console, then the monitor and fire everything up. You can also switch to a computer if you want.

GOOD LUCK!!

What parts do I need for a gaming computer?

Q. I'm looking to buy a gaming computer. My money range is $0-$1200 and I want my gaming computer to play most games on max settings and those newer titles such as Battle Field 3 on normal/medium at least.I heard building your own computer is cheaper but I don't know anything about computers. Could someone please help and list good video cards, processors etc. and where to get them. Or you could just put a good pc for a reasonable price. Also can you put the links in your answers.

A. here you go:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K - $225

GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $130

ASUS ENGTX560Ti448DC2/2DIS/1280MD5 GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 448 Cores (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $280 ($260 after rebate)

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850M 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular High Performance Power Supply - $140 ($120 after rebate)

COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $60 ($50 after rebate)

LITE-ON Internal 24x DVD-Writer 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model iHAS324-99 - $22

Acer S220HQLAbd Black 21.5" 5ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1) - $120 (1080p monitor)

Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 920-002950 Black 8 Function Keys USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard and Mouse - $27

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 - $34

ALTEC LANSING BXR1221 15 Watts RMS 2.1 Speaker System - $30

TOTAL :$1200 ($1150 after rebate), this is the best COMPLETE BUILD that I could give you for that price, it is well balanced and it already comes with an aftermarket cooler and speakers. The monitor is 1080p and with the GTX 560 ti 448 cores you could play all games on max settings on 1080p with good FPS.

The GTX 560 ti 448 cores is a DOWNGRADED GTX 570 thus it is only slightly slower than the gtx 570:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/499?vs=306

BTW, the motherboard that I have provided is SLI ready that is why I have given you the 850w Corsair PSU that is capable enough to support 2 GTX 560 ti 448 cores in SLI on a high end system with overclocking.

And since the GTX 560 ti 448 cores has the same power requirement as that of the GTX 570, then it will be our basis of how much power is needed in SLI:

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 570

On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit.

GeForce GTX 570 in 2-way SLI

A second card requires you to add another ~225 Watts. You need a 750+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system (800+ to a KiloWatt is recommended if you plan on any overclocking).

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/13

So, basically, what I have given you is still upgradeable to SLI and you could still add an SSD (120 gb is good, but this is only optional). =D

Parts and prices came from newegg.com

The PS3 requires HDMI with a HDCP compliant monitor/TV.

Can I use my own speakers with a new monitor?
Q. I am considering purchasing a new computer monitor. I have a HP computer so I have found a HP flat screen color monitor that has great customer reviews. The only thing that people say is a problem(not a major problem) is the speakers, most say they are not loud enough. I have a great pair of external speakers. Can I plug them in and use them instead?

It is a HP - 20" Widescreen Flat-Panel TFT-LCD HD Monitor - Black
If anyone has one,I would love to here from you.

A. The speaker connection is a completely different connection from the monitor connection. The speakers connect via a 3.5 mm mini plug usually colored green on a desktop PC. The monitor through a 15 pin VGA (usually colored dark blue) or a DVI plug (usually colored white), both of which are way bigger, so you can't possibly get them mixed up with the speaker connection.

So, yes you can still use your awesome speakers.
