how do you connect external speakers to my 23 inch acer lcd monitor?

Q. my lcd monitor has internal speakers but they are not that good. i currently have my xbox 360 connected to it via hdmi cable. my monitor has an audio in input in the back, but when i try to connect my external speakers to it, sound does not come through the external speakers but comes through the lcd monitor speakers. someone help?

A. Well since there is no Audio Out input then you can't use external speakers on the monitor itself.

Could i hook up a verizon HD Receiver to a monitor with an HDMI port?
Q. The monitor is the ASUS VH236H 23" LCD monitor. It says it has HDCP support. Please let me know if this can be done, and how. Thanks.

A. Now I dont know anything about Verizon..I'm in the UK. I am assuming it has an HDMI output?
If it does simple plug together with an HDMI lead! (too simple...what have I missed)? The Asus has full support for high-def with HDMI (and DVI). It has onboard speakers too, which should work just with the HDMI cable..Is there some funny thing about verizon?

Can you always tell whether the TV is analog or digital just by the image quality?

Q. The image quality of an analog tv can sometimes be poor.

Is Denmark the first country to mandate the change from analog TV to digital transition? I mean, before US mandated the change.

A. Not really. For example, on a large screen LCD HDTV, an analog signal won't look as good as it does on a smaller screen analog TV. On the other hand, an over-the-air digital channel in the U.S., received via a set top converter on an old analog TV, can look a lot better than the former analog signal from the same channel.

If you're unsure about a set or monitor and can't figure it out from the user's guide, search the make and model in Google. A hit on several different sites, Amazon in particular, will give you the set's specs.

Why do old crt monitors have better picture quality than lcds?
Q. I have a 22" 1920x1080 lcd monitor on my computer. Well the other day I went over my friends house and he had a old CTX 17" crt monitor, and it was the clearest thing I ever seen. Perfect black levels, very crisp text, and the colors were much richer. Why does his crt have a better picture than my 22" 1080p full hd monitor?

A. It really depends on your LCD monitor, there are cheaper models with less mature technology, whereas CRTs have been around a long time and hence it's cheap to produce good models, and they don't (afaik) make them anymore.

Try look at high-end IPS monitors, which do have much better colour reproduction, viewing angles and then the price :P.

People moved to LCD, not because of image quality, but for energy-efficiency and how light it is.

What's the difference between the LCD and the old ones monitor? How fast does the computer spoil our eyes?

Q. I would like to know the difference between the LCD monitor and the old ones, then i'm wondering if my eyes will be spoiled by computer cause i spend sometimes in computers,if so how fast can it spoil my eyes??

A. Flatscreens and LCDs certainly do provide a clearer picture, and I do prefer to use them over CRTs except when using my 3D goggles which only work on CRT monitors. If you plan on watching a lot of movies or playing games on your computer, then an LCD is worthwhile, purely for the quality of picture.

Generally, computer use will NOT affect your eyes. I've been staring into a computer screen for the better part of hmm... about 700,000 hours over 12 years. Probably a lot more, definitely not any less.

Most of that screen time was spent in front of CRT monitors. I only started to experience problems with reading about 2 years ago. My optomitrist says this was more due to having a lazy eye as a child that wasn't picked up. I now use glasses for reading books but can get by fine without them normally. If it were true that my eyesight had been affected by CRT use, then I would expect my dominant eye to be just as, or more, troubled as my non-dominant eye. However I still maintain perfect vision in that dominant eye, even though I use both to look at a screen. Eye problems run in my family, so all things considered, I don't think there's much of a correlation.

I know people who've spent just as long in front of computers as I have and they can see perfectly, if not better than most. Skin is also unaffected, but can get a bit blotchy if you stay up all night on the computer... as it will if you stay up all night doing anything else.
The other thing that makes me suspicious of CRTs causing eye problems is that when you use a computer your eyes get a good work out, reading small print, large print, looking here looking there.

If you're concerned about eye strain, try turning down the glare on your monitor (brightness or gamma) and switch to a less goudy colour scheme (ie no bold reds and contrasting greens). If you are further concerned, try doing simple eye exercises such as focusing on your finger close in and then far out, with each eye, one at a time.

What is the best monitor, or monitor settings to stop eyestrain?
Q. I am suffering from eye strain. I work all day on the computer, and take regular breaks, but my eyes are suffering at the moment. I am using a monitor that is 17" diagonal flat screen. I have turned the brightness down and the contrast, which helps a little.
I'm wondering if I should use a newer larger monitor?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks it is a Dell monitor 17". I can't see the model anywhere, but there is a series of no. on the back:
CN OY441764180 589 2X9C thanks!

A. flatscreen lcd's are the best

the screen should be PIN sharp, with NO noticeable flickering
and there should be NO vagueness around character edges.
using a magnifying glass, you should be able to see individual pixels
that are Sharply defined. if not, then suspect that your settings are wrong
each monitor has a single IDEAL setting
this has varied over the years as design progress is made.

make certain you are using the IDEAL setting for this monitor.
we cant guess, each one is different but you could ask another question

note: almost all monitors have a menu button, or button combination
that shows the current screen settings and status check that and state that too.

the worst monitors are those that run at 60hz as this may tune itself in to
other lights in the room.modern low power light bulbs can have undesired effects
old filament lights are much better.
strip lights are a complete no no.

so you see the strain is caused by interacting with ambient lighting.

monitors that operate at 85hz often look the best.

most monitors have a system of 3 settings for colour strength, running between
cool and hot choosing a cooler scheme may help

May I get a better image by connecting my screen to a DVI port?

Q. My LCD screen has both a VGA and a DVI input. I'm currently using the VGA one, connected to my 9800gtx+ with a VGA->DVI adapter.
Will I get a better image quality by using the DVI input?

A. You should use DVI whenever possible for a totally digital connection. I don't see the point of converting a digital video signal into analog VGA only to have the monitor convert it back to digital for display.

I want a camera with professional type images that can still fit in my jeans pocket. What can you recommend?
Q. I've looked at the Panasonic Lumix DMC LX2 which has all the features i want, not sure about the image quality though and it looks a little big for my pocket. Also I've looked at the new canon ixsus 850 and canon powershot g7. Can you recommend others? I'm an amature photographer but need a camera that i can easily take when going on a night out.

A. Check out a Canon Powershot SD900, which is almost a direct comparison, or an SD800-IS, which is a little cheaper (fewer MP) and has image stabilization. My reason for suggesting these two cameras is because the Panasonic you are looking at does not have an optical viewfinder and you will end up going through batteries faster than you like if you have to use that thing all the time.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_sd800is%2Ccanon_sd900%2Cpanasonic_dmclx2&show=all

I would choose almost any camera with an optical viewfinder over one that only has an LCD viewfinder. Why?

1. You never have the option of turning off the LCD and these things eat batteries for lunch and spit them out. Why do away with the option of a viewfinder that has zero electrical drain?

2. It can be difficult to see the image on an LCD in bright sunlight, even if they are "new and improved."

3. You have to hold an LCD viewer out at some distance in front of your face. This is more conspicuous than I prefer to be all the time.

4. The need to hold a camera at arms length will introduce some shake. I like the idea of stabilizing a camera against my face when I am taking a picture. This is especially important with a longer zoom lens. No wonder "image stablization" or "vibration reduction" is necessary with these cameras. Not that there's anything WRONG with IS or VR, but it is really a requirement with LCD viewfinders and telephoto lenses.

5. Using the LCD to view photos after you've taken them slows down the camera quite a bit. You can't shut of the LCD monitor and still take pictures if you don't have an optical viewfinder.

I want to start getting into photography?
Q. What camera is solid camera to start with for a beginner that isnt that expensive but no crappy?

A. There are TWO primary factors to consider:

1. How much money do you have to spend????
2. What level of photography do you aspire to "progress to" in the coming years ? (i.e. basic beginner, intermediate, or professional/business use).

For most beginners to intermediates I usually suggest one of these two manufacturers:

1. Canon EOS Rebel model XSi. (Also known as the Canon 450D in Britain)
The "kit" package comes with an 18-55mm zoom lens. The camera has pop-up flash, 12.2 Megapixels, and shutter speeds up to 1/4000th, 100-1,600 ISO sensitivity, 7 autoexposure Scene modes, PLUS Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority and Programmed Exposure Modes and Manual. It also has a 3 inch LCD screen, 3.5 frames continous per second max., 9 point AF system, Live View Functioning and the ability to record photos in 3, 6 or 12 Megapixels PLUS numerous other great features found only on more expensive cameras. Wal-Mart is also selling them now for about $799. Sam's Club also has them for $729.

I bought one of these 6 months ago and use it as my "back up" camera to a more expensive Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I absolutely love it. I have gotten some fantastic photos with it and cannot praise it enough. I routinely enlarge my photos to make 8x10's and 11x14 size enlargements with no noticeable distortion or loss of detail in the pictures.

2. Nikon D-90: If you prefer to use Nikon equipment I strongly recommend the Nikon D-90 which has 12.3 Megapixels, 3 inch monitor with Live View, 200-3,200 ISO sensitivity, 11 point AF system with Face Priority, 4.5 frames per second in continous mode, 5 advanced Scene modes for auto exposure plus Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority, Programmed Auto plus Manual. The D-90 sells for around $900-950. (Body ONLY. The 18-55mm lens cost an additional $150.-175.) Typically, Nikon equipment is slightly more expensive than Canon equipment, but (having owned both Nikon and Canon cameras), I have seldom noticed BETTER quality results using Nikon equipment.

These two selections are probably the best choices for any beginner to intermediate skill level, offering the most lenses and other accessories, dealers and places to purchase.

I strongly recommend that ALL beginners buy a good book on digital photography AND take a class or two from a Vocational school or Community Education Center in your area.

You can learn more about the technical specifications of each of these two cameras at these websites:

How do I get my speakers to my monitor to work ?!?

Q. Okay so I have no speakera & I just noticed that my monitor comes with built in speakers, So how do i get my Speakers to my Monitor wich is a HP 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor with BrightView Panel, 16:9, W2338H <-- That is the exact Monitor i have That i bought from walmart.. PLease help ! :)

A. On the back of the monitor, there should be a connection for a 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone jack. This is the sound input connection.

You simply need a cable that has the standard headphone jack on both ends. One plugs into the monitor and the other plugs into the computer.

That cable should have been included in the box with the Monitor.

How can I make a lcd panel from an old computer display television?
Q. It is a 10.5 inch hitachi lcd panel (for a laptop) with two cords for power and 31 input slots. Is there some way to use these input slots for video, do I need a signal decoder in between? thanks for your help...

A. if you have the cable box for the monitor to plug into, then you just need a converter from your monitor plug to your tv cable plug

Do you get some kind of digital cable? or Direct TV or something? with these digital cable services you do need a cable box from the company,

If you just have normal free town cable then you prob. just need something like this http://www.cnet.com/4520-7387_1-6341848-2.html?tag=tab

Is there a big difference between 60Hz and 120Hz on pc monitor?

Q. Hello. Im hoping somone can help me out. At the moment im using an lcd tv as my pc monitor. Its 60Hz. Im thinking of going for a proper pc monitor which has 120hz. Will I see a big difference in picture quality between the two Hz?
yes Its for gaming so will I see a big difference ?

A. For browsing the internet, working with Microsoft Word, Excel, doing homework, posting here, you will not see any difference.

Because the Refresh rate (The change to what your looking at) is low.

However if your watching a High Def movie (Blu Ray) or gaming, which quickly changes what you see on the screen - 120hz is better then 60hz.

The 120hz screen refreshes quicker so can keep up better then a lower - 60hz screen.

Regards - Cassandra.

What is the normal refresh rate for LCD monitor and browser scrolling itself?
Q. I have 2 refresh rates 60 and 75. I saw recommended is 75. Main problem of screen flickers is especially on mozilla and internet explorer. Even when I changed the mouse, the browsers scrolled up and down quickly and flicker. Why does this happen, how to solve?

Do provide contact so i can ask again please!

A. LCD monitors use 60hz. 75 makes moving graphics on the screen a little more smooth (mainly only noticeable in games) but most LCD displays don't support over 60.

There are some higher-end displays that support 120hz, but they're pretty damn pricey!

What is the best config for a home desktop ?

Q. Hi. I want to buy a desktop for my home. The usage will be only for watching movies, download, music, browsing and social networking. I want to know what config to buy?
Which Processor, RAM, graphics card, speakers, LCD monitor to buy? Can you also differentiate the difference b/w the new processors that are in the market now?

A. For a basic productivity computer like the one you're asking for, you will need:

A dual core processor.
2GB ram minimum
Integrated graphics - you will not need a separate graphics card for what you plan on doing.

That's all that is required, everything else is up to you.

If you are building it yourself, I'd recommend the following for your base:

CPU: Athlon II x2 250
MB: AMD 785g chipset motherboard ---or--- 740g chipset
RAM: 2GB DDR3 1333 MHz

If you want pre-built, any of these should do:

Here are the monitors:

As for current-market processors, they are differentiated through brand, family, and model number.

The two major brands are Intel and AMD.

Families within Intel: Atom, Celeron, Pentium, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7.
Within each family, higher numbers usually indicate higher performance.

Families within AMD: Sempron, Athlon II, and Phenom II (simple, right?)
Models are numbered, starting with the Sempron 140, and ending with the Phenom II x6 1090t. Generally, the higher the number, the higher the performance. The number following the x indicates how many cores the processor has. Semprons are single core only.

The only other thing to have to consider is CPU socket. CPUs will only fit in motherboards with compatible sockets.

Intel currently has 3 sockets on the market, with 2 more to be released early next year: 775, 1156, 1366, and next year (1155, 2011). None of these sockets are compatible with each other, meaning a socket 775 CPU will not work in a 1156 motherboard, and so on.

AMD currently has one socket on the market (simple, right?): AM3.
On top of that, AM3 CPUs are backwards compatible with motherboards with socket AM2/AM2+, the previous generation socket. The new socket. AM3+, to be released late next year, will also be backwards compatible with AM3 CPUs.

Intel is currently has the best performance, but they cost much more. Their 6 core Core i7-980x is currently going for $1000.

AMD has the best value. They do not perform as well as Intel, but are very good still. An AMD processor can deliver 70%-90% of the performance of a comparable Intel processor for 40%-60% the price. For a point of reference, the 6 core top of the line AMD Phenom II x6 1090t goes for about $300.

What is the diff between a TFT-LCD and LCD monitors? Which is good for eyes in terms of long working?

Q. I wanna buy a 19" LCD monitor and currently weighing between HP and Samsung monitors. All HP monitors are called LCD monitors as per the package details as well as per their website, while all Samsung monitors are called TFT LCD Monitors. I am a bit confused, as I work a lot on PC, I would like to protect my eyes and health. Can someone help me with correct answer?

A. LCD monitors use Liquid Crystal Diodes.

TFT is an LCD monitor that uses Thin Film Transistor technology.

Other types are:
TN+Film - Twisted Nematic
IPS - In Plane Switching
MVA - Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment
PVA - Patterned Vertical Alignment
S-PVA - Super Patterned Vertical Alignment.

TFT is the most common today, and LCD is accepted as being TFT-LCD. Usually you only see a differentiation if it's one of the other technologies. The other types all have their advantages and disadvantages, but TFT is the cheapest to manufacture today.

For your eyes, you want an LCD. LCD's are on, and change when they change vs. a CRT which has a refresh rate. In a CRT, the phosphorus is charged and glows, but then dims very quickly. The refresh recharges it, but there is a dimming and brightening affect. The higher the refresh rate, the less noticable it is to you.

Within an LCD, if cost is no object, you want an IPS (better) or S-PVA (best). They will have the highest contrast ratios and brightest screens. Be prepared to pay, and pay well for this luxury though.

I am planning to do some overclocking hopefully on CPU, RAM, and the 760s. I could use some tips as well. And i will be fitting the case with the needed fans to keep these babies cool. With all of that in mind what kind of power supply do i need?
I need a 750 watt? Then i just rather get this one since its fully modular and it has all sleeved cables!!!!
It has a slick look and several people have it. I personally prefer corsair but in this case the fully modular and the sleeved cables win the battle.

Does overclocking affect anything? Will a 750w PSU handle the overclocking on the CPU, Ram, GPU? And which cooler should i get?

A. 750w+ that has a bronze or better rating.

BTW, the motherboard that I have provided is SLI ready that is why I have given you the 850w Corsair PSU that is capable enough to support 2 GTX 560 ti 448 cores in SLI on a high end system with overclocking.

And since the GTX 560 ti 448 cores has the same power requirement as that of the GTX 570, then it will be our basis of how much power is needed in SLI:

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 570

On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit.

GeForce GTX 570 in 2-way SLI

A second card requires you to add another ~225 Watts. You need a 750+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system (800+ to a KiloWatt is recommended if you plan on any overclocking).

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/13

So, basically, what I have given you is still upgradeable to SLI and you could still add an SSD (120 gb is good, but this is only optional). =D

Is it possible to contact print an inverted image on an lcd monitor to a piece of photo paper?
Q. I am wondering if you could invert an image in photoshop, make it say 5x7, black out your screen tape a piece of photo paper on there, turn the monitor on for a second or whatever and produce a developable print.

A. Yes. There is no reason whatsoever that this shouldn't work and produce a low resolution somewhat out of focus print given the correct exposure time and an environment that prevents the paper from being significantly fogged during the process.

A few things to keep in mind. There is a piece of plastic between the actual displayed pixel on the monitor and the piece of paper you are applying. This will mean that the light will diffuse and scatter somewhat before it reaches the paper thus reducing the clarity of the print. Also your pixel count per square inch on your monitor will be low in comparison to what is considered acceptable in a high quality print. This will depend on your monitor but even the very best monitors do not come near the 240 dpi that is required for a high quality print. Lastly the monitor will not have the orange mask that light sensitive photographic paper needs to produce a proper color image. This could likely be emulated though by experimenting with different degrees of orange being added to the inverted image.

Regardless...cool idea and worth giving it a try. With the right image it might distress it in such a way it might be desirable in some respects.

How many watts of power will I need for my gaming computer?

Q. This summer I plan on building my own gaming PC and assembling it at home because it is cheaper and I like to customize things myself. It is an 850 dollar computer but the specs are exceptional. For the motherboard and processor, I am following a YouTube tutorial. In the YouTube video it says only 500 watts of power are needed, but in the comment section somebody (who was picked for best answer) claims that you actually need at least 630. I am planning on getting a 750 watt battery anyways, but if I don't need to, I'll try and get something cheaper. So how much power will I need based on this setup:

A. 500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx#2

Thus, for a system with a single HD7850, a good branded 600W PSU is the ideal one to get and since your mobo does not support crossfire, then that 750W is too much for that build since Xfire is already not possible.

BTW, for Xfire, amd recommends 600W minimum, thus 700W is the ideal one to have (just an added info).

Is there any software to convert normal LCD monitor to 3D?

Q. Is there any software to convert normal LCD monitor to 3D or is it to buy a new TV with 3D option.. I read somewhat that it is just a software that can convert monitor to 3D. is it true?

A. Absolutely untrue.

Those 3D-ready LCD monitors have DVI or HDMI ports that can receive a 120Hz video signal. Normal LCD monitors top out at 60Hz only-- They are BUILT that way and no software can ever change that.

Is holding one wallpaper all the time burn the monitor or at least some pixels in it?
Q. Hi.
I wanted to ask a question about the computer's wallpaper.
If I never change it can it cause damage to my computer or burn some pixels in my monitor (the black little squares that appear in some monitors)?
I have an LCD monitor if that helps answering my question,

Thanks in advance.

A. First of all, burned pixels are actually called dead pixels and they are caused by the manufacturing process of LCD's. so if you dont have any dead pixels within the first month or so of using your monitor, you should'nt ever get any.

if you have any screensaver or if you have your monitor turn off after a ceertain amount of time. (for example i have my screensaver turn on after 5 mins of inactivity and my monitor turn off after 20), it shouldnt cause any real damage.

but assuming your monitor stays on all the time, and you have the screensaver turned off,it wont "burn" pixels, but it will make them "tired" or "fatigued". meaning they wont display the right color.

for example if a pixel is always displaying a brighter color, it will eventuall show up darker than it is supposed to, and if it is a light colored pixel it will show up darker than it is supposed to.

bu if you have a screensaver on, it should save your screen from "tired" Pixels.(hence the name screensaver"

How large is the average arcade monitor?

Q. I'm vying for CRT, but if I can't find one of large enough size (I don't want to drop the money on an actual arcade machine monitor) I'll have to go LCD.

How big should I go, for a one/two person cabinet? I'm thinking 24".

A. I've built my own arcade cabinet and used a 27" Flat Screen Tube TV and used a video card with S-Video Out which is sufficient for arcade games.

How to get the clearest, most crisp picture on an LCD for gaming?
Q. I have a 32" monitor that I want to look like an arcade machine monitor. How do I give it that crisp look?

A. Well, but arcade machines dont produce any high resolution or crisp pictures. They are not meant to be so.And for your monitor, if you want it to be put for purely gaming purpose you need to get a great game console say PS3 or a CPU of a computer which should be loaded with a great graphic card costing around $500 .

Hope it helps.

I want to start photography, tips please!?

Q. Hey guys

I want to take up photography as a hobby. I am looking to take pictures with a vintage feel. I love black and white pictures and faded tones like the ones in old school cameras. What are some camera suggestions? I am a complete novice so break it down for me!

thanks :)

A. Things you'll need: Software, a place to upload, and a camera.

Software: It really depends on your Operating system
Photoshop: PC and Mac
Arperture: Mac
iPhoto: Mac

Arpeture and iPhoto can store photos, and you can mix and match effects. You can also directly upload photos to flickr and facebook from the software. iPhoto is included in part of iLife, and Arpeture 3 is available for $199. Both can do B&W and "vintage"

Photoshop-It's really complex and you can do amazing things, but for a novice I wouldn't recommend it. It's also quite expensive. For your vintage feel, you can add image noise, which is distortion of the image, add dust and scratches, you can de-noise, etc. It lets you do alot more than the former.

Another choice is Picknick (I think thats how it's spelled) It's an online editor and 100% free. It's actually quite decent.

Now that you've chosen your Software, You'll need a place to upload.

Flickr-It's free and run by Yahoo! but has some limitations to the free version-You can only upload 100MB of photos per month, and deleting photos DOES NOT free up space. You can add contacts and such, and It's great. If you would like to check out my Flickr, It is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tell_the_people/

Another option is Photobucket, which is Similar to Flickr-You have a limit of photos you can upload, but it doesn't have a monthly limit.

Other options are social networking sites such as tumblr, facebook and myspace.

Now that you have software and a place to upload, now you need a camera.

There are two types of cameras-point and shoot, Bridge and DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex)
Point and shoots typically have an attached lens, a built in flash and are very compact.

Bridge cameras have better lenses (sometimes detachable) and are higher end than point and shoot.)

DSLR's are the high end of the spectrum, with detachable/swappable lenses, attachable flashes, etc. They consume the least amount of power, because the image you see is through the viewfinder and not the LCD monitor. The limage passes through the lens and onto a "reflex mirror" which goes through a pentaprism and into the viewfinder-It requires no battery power. Then when a picture is taken, the shutter/reflex mirror goes up, and the light hits the sensor and the picture is taken.

You will need:
A Memory card
A tripod (optional)

A memory card with about 8GB and Class 4 (for SDHC) and 8GB and 30mb/s for CF cards is highly recommended. Eye-Fi is another option, which never fills up your card because it automatically imports the picture through wifi.

A tripod is OPTIONAL but recommended. Your shots will be much straighter than shot with freehand, but they are bulky to carry around. An aluminum tripod is recommended.

Before buying a camera know these things:

Megapixels-More pixels on the sensor means bigger prints and better pictures.
ISO-Light sensitivity-by setting the ISO, you can change how well your camera shoots in low light.
FPS-Frames per second-The amount of pictures your camera can take in a second.
Movie Mode-720p or 1080 movie mode
Sensor Size-APS-C, ASP-H, and Full Frame (35mm). ASP-C is most common the market. Full Frame is the size that old-school 35mm camera size. Full Frame is available on High-end, expensive cameras such as the Nikon D3X and Canon 5D Mark II

Recommended Cameras:
For the point and shoot:
Nikon S8100: 12 megapixels, ISO 3200 max, 1080p movie mode, 5 FPS. $299. GREAT DEAL!!

DSLR:
Nikon D3100-14.2 megapixels, 1080p movie, 3200 ISO 3200, 3 FPS, $699.
Sony A55-16.2 megapixels, 1080p movie, 10 FPS, ISO 12800 $850 with 18-55mm lens kit. Rotating screen, (NO SHUTTER, It has a translucent reflex mirror)
Canon Rebel Xsi-12.1 megapixels, No movie mode, ISO 1600, 3 FPS $649
Canon Rebel T2i-18 megapixels, 1080p movie, 3.7 FPS, ISO 6400 $899 with lens, $799 body only

All DSLR Cameras Except for the Sony A55 and A33 have a shutter, which will need to be replaced after about 100,000-300,000 pictures. It costs about $300 to get it replaced.

Most of these cameras will come with a 18-55mm lens with a f 3.5/5.6 lens. THIS LENS IS CRAP.

I highly recommend:
18-135, 28-135, or Tamaron 18-270mm for a zoom lens
A Macro lens i also recommend, a 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4

Happy Photo taking!

help with canon cameras please? ASAP?
Q. I want the Canon 5d mark ii but 2,000 is a lot to ask for christmas..
Is there any camera that is similar to this one that would be a little bit less..? Like under 1,000 maybe?

thanks so much. i appreciate it.

A. I would consider Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera

Why do the 360 graphics look mediocre ?

Q. I have a 19" widescreen HD LCD monitor. and I'm that impressed by the 360 graphics.

A. My guess is because you may be a computer gamer. The 360 and the PS3 have finally caught up with the graphics that a decent PC has had for quite some time. I wasn't impressed at first either, but that was before I played Gears of War. You also have to remember that game developers have not learned the full potiential of the system yet and as time passes the games will get better and more impressive.

Electronic Service Manual - Which Site Has Service Manuals For LCD Monitors In One Place?
Q.

A. It's hard to find specific manuals with a simple search, but you can try Jestine Yong's LCD site for a good starting point. It's a troubleshooting site with Benq & Acer's electronic service manual, though you can find manuals for other brands as well (Dell, HP, Panasonic, Samsung). The developer of the site is an LCD technician who runs courses in electronics & hardware. He's known worldwide for his troubleshooting skills.

when buying a digital camera for serious photography, what should I look for to make sure it fits my needs?
Q. I intend to get a digital camera for photography, but I'm sort of new at it. I want to take pictures and edit them on IPhoto, but I need a new camera, and don't know what to look for. Any suggestions and tips for camera shopping??

Help? Thanks!!!

A. In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

You may never need expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, but the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one place to get great buys, but click the second link in the information above then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but the second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the next link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of normal use and have not been recharged.

Click this link for other camera tips and complete instructions on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.
http://www.google.com/base/a/4210404/D13701973093918363271

Most NiMH rechargeable batteries lose charge and should be recharged when not used after two weeks, but Duracell and RayOVac new formula 2000mAh NiMH batteries hold charge one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like these batteries at first, but have 12 over five years old and all are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries (about one year old) still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (both hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and ... It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.

This link is about prolonging the life of lithium-based batteries which last from two to three years, but are very expensive. A Sony series G rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery is $49.88 at Walmart.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged, format in camera, and don't delete or fill card completely. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. Check the camera maker's site or view owner's manuals at this link. You will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

Whats a good response time for a LCD monitor that has zero ghosting and is good for games and movies?

Q. Whats a good response time for a LCD monitor that has zero ghosting and is good for games and movies?

A. Around 8mS response would be fine for what you want it for.

Do all LCD monitors with a resolution by 1080 have 1080p? And does having 1080p mean it is full HD?
Q. Im planning to buy a full hd lcd monitor for my computer. I use it for watching movies and playing games. But i don't quit know how to determine if it is full HD. And would you guys know the benefits of having a full hd lcd monitor

A. If you want to play back Blu-Ray DVDs at full pixel-for-pixel 1080p High-Definition, you need the following:

1) A Blu Ray drive.

2) An HDCP-compliant video card.

3) An HDCP-compliant monitor that can display 1920x1080. (So in a nutshell, "Full HD" monitor = HDCP compliance and 1920x1080 resolution-capable.)

Keep in mind that HDCP-protected digital high-def video content like Blu Ray discs requires both the vid card and monitor to be HDCP-compliant. If one of those pieces are not, HD Blu Ray movie playback will NOT work.

Hope this helps.

How do I convert a computer LCD monitor to a tv screen ?

Q. I saw this in a Reebok showroom. They had converted the same LCD monitor I have into a TV screen, They had attached a black rectangular box at the back with an on off switch . I don't want to know about TVTuner cards. I just want a way to give it input through AV wires or whatever you call it. (They yellow, red & white ones). Please tell me the cheapest way to do this in India.

A. i would recommend this one!!
its a bit expensive but is worth it..

What is the best lcd monitor to play your ps3 on it?

Q. I want to know whats is the best quality of lcd monitor so I could play my ps3 on it. I have a plasma tv that I bought in 2003 and I hear that old plasma tv doesn't go with a ps3 because it will break the tv. I want to use the monitor to surf the web, play ps3,watch movies and listen to musics. If possible send me a link.
Thanks in advance

A. you can consider buying Samsung P2250 22-Inch Widescreen Touch of Color LCD Monitor
The ultra-high 50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast ratio of the P2250 creates deeper, more dramatic dark tones and brighter, more striking light tones

Where can I find some square lcd monitors?
Q. Hello,
I cannot seem to find any square LCD monitors anywhere. I cannot stand widescreen, and am looking for two 20"+ square monitors. Does anyone know where to get them?
Thank you.

A. Dell stills makes a 19" square LCD, but it's rather expensive considering you can probably get a 23" widescreen with equal vertical height and better resolution for around the same price.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=320-1092

There's also a few 21" models but they're way overpriced.
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=20073SB&~ck=dellSearch&baynote_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=8

Also, look through this list:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007617+600030156&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=20&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

Basically, LCD panel manufacturers don't make "square" 4:3 or 5:4 panels anymore. They basically pushed widescreen upon the consumer, since they're cheaper to make since they have less area for the same diagonal measure. A 19" 16:9 widescreen LCD has somewhat less area than a 19" 5:4 "square" LCD, but since LCD size is measured by the diagonal, it still retains the same 19" measurement. Most consumers will pick up the widescreen since it's cheaper and they think that widescreen is a feature, when in reality it isn't and they're getting a smaller monitor.

How do you connect your ps3 to your lcd computer monitor to play games?
Q. I would like to play ps3 games in full hd but I don't have enough money to cough up for a new hdtv. I have a VH242H Asus LCD monitor(24 inches). Do you need an hdmi to dvi cable? or can you connect it using hdmi directly since my monitor has an hdmi port. How do acquire audio?

A. you can use a HDMI cable to your computer. Once it starts up it should automatically reset the settings, or you can go to the settings to adjust them.

Audio will be set up after you have done the video settings on your PS3 (like right after so they arn't seperate) or they should automatically be done.

What is the best LCD monitors for the best price?

Q. I am looking into getting a new LCD monitor so I can take advantage of my 256mb video card with a DVI output. I am wondering if anybody has some good input on which brand and model to get , I like the samsung T220 with it's 20000:1 contrast ratio . Thanks for you input.

A. Yes I can give you some input. For real, no b.s. like on Polls and Surveys. I studied monitors last year extensively, and here are my results:

The two best choices I could find were Viewsonic and Samsung. I went with the Viewsonic 22" because of it's extremely high user satisfaction ratings, the unbelievable warranty it came with, and the price. Samsung was neck-n-neck, with Viewsonic. But the warranty wasn't as good, and they weren't on the market as long so I had no long term performance information to go on. You will never regret buying a Viewsonic anyway. They are not going out of business, and their quality is near the top of the heap. I bought it from COSTCO. If you don't have a membership then I recommend that you get one, because you are going to save the membership fee with the monitor purchase anyway. They have both Samsung and Viewsonic. You can go with the Samsung, if you want. You won't hear complaints from me. I'm just advising you from extensive experience and age (unfortunately), how you can make the best choice. You can see my monitor on my 360. The picture is tiny, but, you can see it.

What company makes good LCD monitors?

Q. I'm thinking of buy a new monitor that has 1680x1050 resolution. I see so many companies make that type of monitor. What should I look in when buying a new LCD monitor?

A. Personally i would go for the new Sony's 3D compatible BRAVIA® HDTVs incorporate MotionFlow™ - FULL HD or 3D whether it's PC gaming, watching TV, or playing your XBOX or PS3 which will have loads of 3D games being released.

http://discover.sonystyle.com/bravia/sony3d/

But below is the answer to you're question

The most important thing you need to know about LCD technology is that LCD panels have a fixed resolution. This resolution is called “native resolution”, “maximum resolution” or simply “resolution” and you must configure your desktop to that resolution, otherwise three things can happen, depending on the model of your monitor:

1. The image won’t be “sharp”; it will be blurred. You will see lots of squared areas, without any definition.

2. The monitor will centralize the image in the new resolution, reducing the image size and inserting a black frame around the image. For instance, if your LCD native resolution is 1280x960 and you decreased it to 800x600, this means there are 480 pixels left horizontally (1280 - 800) and 360 pixels left vertically (960 - 600). The image will be centralized and there will be 240 black pixels above and below the image and 180 blank pixels on the sides of the image.

3. The monitor will try to stretch the image in order to not show the black area around of the image, filling the whole screen. This is done thru a technique called interpolation, which isn’t 100% perfect and thus you will feel that the image has better quality (definition) when the screen is configured at its native resolution, even though the elements on the screen (e.g. icons, letters, etc) will be smaller. In general you will feel that the image is slightly out of focus (blurred) when the monitor is not configured in its native resolution.

Because of this inherent characteristic of LCD panels you will have to choose an LCD monitor that has a resolution that you are comfortable with. The higher resolution isn’t always the better. With higher resolutions you have more space on your screen (in other words, more stuff will fit the screen at the same time) but icons and letters will be smaller. So for the average user a monitor with a higher resolution doesn’t always translate into a better product, it will largely depend on the application. If you only use your computer to browse the internet, write e-mails, use spreadsheets and word processing you will probably want to stick with a monitor with a lower resolution, because they are cheaper and won’t make your icons and letters to become very small. But if you run professional applications like video and image editing, then you will probably want a monitor with higher resolution and screen size.

If you are a gamer, you must buy a monitor that matches the resolution you want to play, otherwise the game will look like “blurred”. In other words, configure your game to run at the display’s native (i.e. maximum) resolution. All gamers know that when you increase the game resolution the performance lowers (because there will be more pixels to be drawn on the screen). If your game is running too slow, that means it is time to upgrade your video card. You can decrease the game resolution but, as we are explaining, you will hurt image quality.

How do I find Gamma controls in windows 7?
Q. I just got me an LCD monitor for my computer that's running Win 7 and can't find the Gamma controls in my computer. I've tried to correct it from the monitor and I can't do it... Can someone help me please?!

A. (This is how it's done on my laptop, anyway):
I right click the desktop, and click "Graphics Properties...". In the window that pops up, I have a slider for "gamma" under a color enhancements-type panel. It may or may not be the same for you.

What is the life of LCD Screens comes for Computer ?

Q. I want to buy LCD Screen for my new system but I am afraid,
cause I heard LCD comes in TFT(Thin Film Transistor) technology and It uses 1 transistor for 1Dot pixel in screen, I know the cases of Dead pixel which may corrupt our LCD Screen.
So I want to know what is the Life of Computer LCD Screen?

Is there any different technolgoy available in Computer LCD Screen which can help for long life of LCD without this kind of Problem?

A. The last LCD screen I had with any stuck or dead pixels was a Sony laptop I bought January 2000 and it had other screen issues from a poorly designed ribbon cable.

None of the other LCD laptops or monitors at work or home have have had any noticeable stuck or dead pixels, and I have not noticed any on a 27" HDTV Ready LCD I got years ago or the 40" I have had for a year or two. Not that it cannot happen with a substandard brand. Mechanical failure from abuse is more likely. Typical lifetime of the backlight is 50,000 hours, which if you used it 8 hrs per day every day would be about 17 years.

We did have one LCD monitor fail completely (blacked out) by I think that was probably due to a fatigued solder joint on a VGA socket. Whatever it was, the LED would blink green instead of steady green when on or blinking amber in standby. But that was just one failure of many faultless.

How can I use my Panasonic 27" Led tv as a monitor?
Q. What I actually want is to use both my tv and a LCD flat screen monitor with my tower at the same time. The dual monitor thing yah know?

A. Much depends upon:

1. What output ports are available on your PC.
2. What input ports are available for your Panasonic.

There are converters to change (for instance) DVI to VGA, but you will always suffer some degradation of definition when you use one of these.

I would add that your current video card would also need to support dual monitors for this to be successful. If it does not, you might invest in a USB video card that installs it's own drivers and allows dual monitors to be used irrespective of the original video card.

Something to think about, anyway. :-)

Is there a way I can keep my LCD Monitor from strectching everything?

Q. I just bought a new monitor and it is stretching everything. I use Photoshop a lot and everything looks funny. Does anyone know a way I can make this not happen?

A. Set your resolution to the native resolution of the monitor. This is usually the highest allowed resolution under the display preferences.

The only reason to use a lower resolution than native is if you have problems seeing things.

Any Recommendations For LCD Monitor For Photography?
Q. I'm considering getting a new LCD monitor for photographic use. I currently have a Samsung 931B and Acer x171 (running dual monitors on Gigabyte video card -- 256mb-- and Acer is just for dragging pallettes out of way in Photoshop.) I'm considering a 22" widescreen to go down to a single monitor, but am on a fairly tight budget. I could prolly go up to 'round $350, so I know that's really limiting me.

It doesn't need to be fancy, I just need something that is sharp, true colors, and good contrast w/o being *too* contrasty.

A. I would contact Adobe directly and get recommendations.

I know in the CRT monitors Samsung, Sony, NEC, Dell, Apple and ViewSonic were supported monitors.

In any case you will need to calibrate your monitor. See links below

How do I turn my computer LCD monitor into my TV moniter sans computer?

Q. I'm getting a bigger, better LCD monitor for my compy and I'd like to use the monitor I have to connect to my DVD player and Wii without a computer as the go between. It is not important that I be able to actually watch television as I have neither cable nor network reception.

Any suggestions?

Much thanks in advance!

A. Depends on the monitor. If it only has a VGA input you can't do much.
Some monitors do have composite or s-video input, so if that's the case, get one of those cables.

Can i use an LCD monitor in playing ps3?
Q. Can i use an LCD monitor in playing ps3?

I am planning to buy an LCD monitor for a ps3 but i am wondering if it has the ports that a ps3 needs and if it is capable of running the games smoothly.

A. If it has HDMI or DVI (you will need a cheap adapter) then it will play PS3 games, to play blu-ray it will need to be HDCP compliant.

Most Monitors do not carry sound, so you will need to hook up to an amplifier via the Composite AV cable (ignore the video part of this).

Can you buy the LCD monitor that comes with a camcorder and attach it to a point and shoot camera?

Q. I have a canon point and shoot camera and I film videos. Since I can't see myself in the screen it's hard to see if the camera is focused and pointed in the right place. I'd rather not buy a camcorder and the other canon dslr cameras are very expensive. Please help if you have any ideas or if they sell the screens? Thanks

A. most point and shoot cameras have an AV output so you can watch on TV set. assuming you do have this output, they do make LCD monitor screens but you would find them expensive.

I need to ask a question about the Canon EOS 350D?
Q. Hi, I am new the world on cameras, and I bought this one as my second camera, and I have a very strong feeling that the only screen is the small one about the LCD monitor. Am I correct? Or is there a setting I can change to make the LCD monitor the screen like almost every other camera?

A. "screen"? "about the monitor"? Your question is very strange.

However, I will take a guess, anyway.

I would say you are asking about the viewfinder, and about something called "live view".
Your camera is rather old and basic (but that doesn't make it a bad camera), and it doesn't have that feature.
However, you are not missing out on anything.

"Live View" on a DSLR is not the same as the screen on a P&S.
You can hold a P&S at arm's length in the typical snapshooter's position (and that is such a bad technique), but thankfully you can't do that for very long with a heavy DSLR & lens combo.
Live view has its uses occasionally , for instance for macro shots, but it isn't instant like the display on a P&S, it sort of lags, and just doesn't feel right.
Live View is not meant to replace the view finder, a serious photographer uses the view finder because it is vastly superior, full stop.
I was excited about my first DSLR with live view, but very quickly gave up on it again - the view finder is so much better.

Your camera may be basic, but you have a perfectly wonderful learning tool - use it to your advantage.

Learn about your camera !!!!

Read your manual !!!! Read it several times, and practice in between. If you don't have a book, download a new one from the manufacturer's website.

Attend a class, read some books, read/watch online tutorials.

The major camera manufacturers (like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc) all have very useful sections on their website for learning about photography.

http://www.nikonusa.com/Learn-And-Explore/Nikon-School/index.page

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/oima_learn_center.asp

http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=HomePageAct

http://photographycourse.net/

Understanding at least the basic principles of photography (as well as being familiar with your camera) will enable you to make the most of your gear, and will make a HUGE difference to your images.

Best ViewSonic monitor for playing on an Xbox 360?

Q. I was researching good TV's to play video games on, and couldn't find any. They all had lag. Now, I've decided that I'm going to get a monitor to play games on. I found out that ViewSonic had good monitors especially for console gaming, so which one is the best? I really want the best one available at this time. Thank you.

A. Hi........again, ha ha. Well, when it comes to gaming just as anyone you want the best quality, which gives you a better experience. I like what you've picked considering they also have available 3D versions http://www.viewsonic.com/assets/039/11136.pdf . From what I've learned is that the Viewsonic in general has good or decent Color-depth and Brightness. Not to mention excellent Response time, which is always important to have. I would go with the ViewSonic Vx2250wm-led LCD Monitor.
It was voted best for the 2010-2011 years & out of all the Viewsonic selections. Don't take my word for it though, double check, because it costs $169 - $175 so if you do buy it make sure you pick the one you're absolutly positive you want.

PS - Yes I'm a Movie, gaming, and Space nerd. and proud of it! :D

Feedback and suggestions for my computer build?
Q. Hey, all! Just finished putting this fantastic machine together on newegg! Let me know of your thoughts.
It'll be used for EXTREMELY high quality streaming of games, networking, and various other tasks.

If there's anything I should know, please let me know~
Without further adieu:

A. You can't run two different GPU's in sli. They must be identical.
An i5 is better for gaming because the GPU finds it easier to run of a 4 core CPU rather than a 4 core CPU with hyper-threading. Hyper-threading makes the system recognize the I7 CPU as 8 cores.
If you are doing a lot of editing an i7 would be better for that but an i5 will work fine aswel.
Also you don't need a psu that powerful.
