Can i use an LCD monitor in playing ps3?

Q. Can i use an LCD monitor in playing ps3?

I am planning to buy an LCD monitor for a ps3 but i am wondering if it has the ports that a ps3 needs and if it is capable of running the games smoothly.

A. The PS3 is designed to work best with an HDMI-equipped display.

So if you want to use an LCD monitor with the PS3, make sure that LCD monitor has an HDMI input.
.

PS3 on LCD Monitor?
Q. I've heard bad things about connecting XBOX360's to LCD monitor, that it displays weird bars and has odd resolution and whatnot,

but how about the PS3?

in a few years i plan to get a PS3, and put it right next to my computer, and have it share the monitor - my monitor is a 20.1 Widescreen HP with standard DVI and VGA, and 1650x1050 resolution.

will it work right? It should....
it will display black bars on the bottom on top because the monitor is 16:10, but thats expected. anything else i should know?

A. The main thing with PC LCD monitors, is that in order for it to work with the PS3, the monitor has to be HDCP compliant.

The monitor could have every type of connection known to man, but if it isn't HDCP compliant, the PS3 WILL NOT WORK with that monitor.

In other words, if your monitor is HDCP compliant than you'll be fine, otherwise, you'll need to go out and get a monitor that's HDCP compliant if you're planning to hook up your PS3 to it.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

I have a problem with my LCD monitor! can u help me?

Q. ok this is the problem:
1 month ago i hit my LCD (accidentally) with a think
1 day after the accident it start to have some kinda blue spots in the place when he was hit
now here is the question:
can i fix the monitor?
i have the guaranty of the monitor for the next 2 years
can they fix the monitor?

A. I think you can test your monitor for damaged pixels by selecting "test monitor" on google search.Once you find the extent of damage....you can try to convince the damage wasn't caused by you,it was a manufacture defect. You might be able to get away with a new monitor,it all depends if they find out the damage was caused by neglect....I would try because you don't have anything to lose.Often it all really is a question of how good your warranty policy is and the person who makes the decision.Good Luck.

Issue: Video card or LCD monitor?
Q. A few months ago, my LCD monitor started acting strangely. It was displaying moving lines kind of similar to what you might expect on a CRT monitor with a too-high refresh rate. Shortly thereafter, it began acting even more spastic, sometimes flickering the width and height to about 1/4 of the normal size, discoloring similarly to when a magnet is next to a CRT monitor, or displaying "shimmers". I'm sort of confused as to some of this behavior, as I thought LCD panels weren't as prone to interference as CRTs. This leads me to believe that it's actually a hardware issue. My problem is, I can't tell whether it's video card or monitor. I tried hooking up my monitor to another computer and couldn't recreate the issue, but that doesn't mean much. I can't put the video card in another computer to test it, because it's on-board. Since on-board video cards are generally pretty lousy anyhow, I'm shortly going to upgrade--but I'll be mad at myself if it's actually the monitor. Any insight?
Oh, I tried completely uninstalling the video card driver, wiping it with a driver wiping software, then reinstalling, and still having issues.

A. I'd say if you tried this LCD on another computer it's probably the onboard video. But have you tried another monitor on this computer? That may give you the double check you need to feel safe getting a new video card.

Lg e2040t LED monitor or Samsung B2030 LCD monitor?

Q. not able to decide which one to prefer, LED or LCD, can somebody help me on which to buy.

A. They are both LCD's, the "LED" type monitors just use white LED's to provide the backlight. They replace the cold cathode tube lights that current LCD's use for back light.

All LCD screens need light behind them shining through the LCD panel to be able to see anything on the screen, its just the way LCD's work:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlight

The LED's have certain advantages, they are cooler (heat-wise), they last longer (won't die as quickly), and use less power (great for laptops). The disadvantage is they currently are more expensive.

Bottom line, if you can afford it, get the LED, especially if you are buying a laptop. If you are buying a desktop monitor, either will work, but the LED backlight will probably last longer, as long as the rest of the monitor's electronics hold up.

what is difference between lcd & led monitors?
Q.

A. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. The way it actually works is pretty complicated. This is a good article if you'd like a better definition of out it actually works.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_LCD_and_how_does_it_work

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. The way they work is much simpler. It is basically a bunch of very small Diodes(more or less light bulbs) that are turned on at different times and with different colors in order to get the image on the screen. This is an article that goes into more detail.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_does_an_LED_work

LED TVs or monitors consume less energy, produce less heat, are smaller and last longer than LCD TVs or monitors.

Are there any LCD monitors out there (in the 19" range) with good built-in speakers?

Q. It seems that most people find that built-in speakers in LCD monitors are pretty bad -- weak and not enough bass. Are there any LCD monitors that have decent speakers? They don't need to be loud enough to fill a room, but good enough so if I'm sitting at my desk I can reasonably listen to tunes or watch a video.

A. By my definition of 'decent' no.

If you are shoe-horning a speaker into the cabinet of a monitor then there is not going to be enough space for a decent size speaker, and the cabinet is not designed for it.

You can get a pair of reasonable speakers and sit them behind your monitor for less than extra cost for having worse speakers in the monitor..

Playstation 3 on LCD Monitors?
Q. does anyone have a FULL tutorial on how i can hook my PS3 to a LCD Monitor?

what do i need? the EXACT type of cables so i know what to purchase.HDMI cables and adapters? i read and watched some tutorials from random people and i get confused because they included alternative solutions. i jus need ONE solution please

also for the speakers, what exact cables or adapters do i need in order to hook up the speakers to the LCD monitor?

thank you
i have a ASUS monitor and it does support HDMI and HDCP. so i assume i jus need a HDMI cable?

i heard the built in speakers are as great so people suggest using PC speakers. what kind of cable do i need to hook the speakers?

A. The problem is that there is no one solution, it depends on several factors. For example, if your LCD monitor has an HDMI port and speakers built into it, then you should only need an HDMI cable to get both video and audio.

Warning: check your LCD monitor supports HDCP before getting anything, the PS3 system requires that its display supports this.

But, lets say your LCD monitor has VGA and DVI, but no HDMI, and no speakers, so you want to output the sound to a nearby stereo, then you will need either an HDMI to DVI cable, or an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI adapter, then for the sound you will need a PS1/PS2/PS3 AV multi cable (for most countries, this is the cable they supply), which you can then connect to the stereo via RCA (This is the most common method, but there are other ways too).

To be sure what solution you require, you will need to supply the models of your LCD monitor and if applicable, any sound hardware (like a stereo) you plan to use.

22 inch monitor LCD for a desktop computer?
Q. I don't know what brand and model is the best for a 22inch LCD monitor. I have plan before to buy HP w2228h 22 inch LCD Monitor but I have read bad reviews for this one. It is so elegant but the reviews are bad.

Pls suggest me a brand and model that is best for gaming and watcing movies. Also a videocard that is suitable for it

A. Best Value - Hanns-G Hi-221DPB 22-inch
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PC display technology hasn't changed all that much in the past few years. The same LCD panel technology and CCFL backlights are still used in the majority of displays. As such, the somewhat dated Hanns-G Hi-221DPB offers a good overall if dated display at a very competitive price. Prices range from as low as $150 up to $180. The 22-inch panel uses the 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1680x1050 resolution. Brightness and contrast ratios are good as response times are quick a 5ms. It doesn't feature a newer HDMI port but does come with both a DVI-D and VGA connector. There are built-in 1W stereo speakers. Of course, to reduce costs, the screen only features a tilt adjustment and just a VGA cable.

Best Overall - HP LP2275w 22-inch
--------------------------------------------------------
Those who are looking for a display that can do just about anything, the HP LP2275w offers a very amazing screen. The 22-inch screen features a 1680x1050 resolution with 6ms response time and 92% NTSC color gamut. This gives the display a high level of color for those looking to do high quality graphics work while still providing sufficient response times for video or gaming. It uses a DVI-D port that is backward compatible with VGA video cards with the supplied DVI to VGA cable. It also features the new DisplayPort connector and cable. Also built into the monitor are several USB 2.0 ports. The heavy stand provides a stable base with tilt, height, swivel and pivot adjustments. Prices are around $350.

Best Gaming - LG W2286L 22-inch
---------------------------------------------------
The LG W2286L is their latest 22-inch series monitor that features a new LED backlit display to help improve contrast and improve color. Gamers will enjoy the deep blacks produced by the monitor when gaming and the fast 2ms response times will help keep motion blur to a minimum. It even features an auto-brightness sensor to adjust the brightness for when those gaming sessions run into the early morning hours. The display uses a standard 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1680x1050 resolution for excellent widescreen gaming support. Input connectors include two HDMI, a DVI-D and a standard VGA. Prices range around $200 to $230.

Best Multifunction - Samsung ToC T220HD 22-inch
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many people are looking to use their LCD monitors as more than just a computer display. The Samsung Touch of Class T220HD provides the ability to use the display for multiple video sources and even doubles as an HDTV with its built-in TV tuner. The 22-inch display does fall short of full 1080p HD support due to the 1680x1050 resolution but many might not find this a problem. Connectors for the display include HDMI, DVI-D, VGA and component. Color is good with a bright display and high contrast levels. The fast 5ms response time allow it to provide fast motion from videos or gaming without and frame ghosting. One downside is the stand that only features tilt adjust. Pricing ranges from $240 to $300.

Best Multitouch - Dell SX2210T 21.5-inch
---------------------------------------------------------------
Multi-touch is one of the new features of the Windows 7 operating system and a steady stream of new multi-touch enabled monitors is starting to come to market. The Dell SX2210T is one of the first available with the interface built into the display for use with Windows 7 PCs. The 21.5-inch display uses a 16:9 aspect ratio with a higher 1920x1080 resolution. Brightness is a bit lower than average but contrast ratios and response times are both very strong. Connectors include HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs plus a two USB 2.0 port. A USB cable is required to use the multi-touch functions. The screen even includes a built-in 2 megapixel webcam. Prices are a bit higher at $470.

Best Graphics - NEC Multisync P221W-BX-SV 22-inch
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even the highest end display for professional graphics require color calibration though. This is where the NEC Multisync P221W-BK-SV display is a great choice for the graphics professional. In addition to the 22-inch display that covers 96% of the AdobeRGB color gamut, it also includes the SpectraViewII color calibration unit to ensure that the screen is properly setup for color. The 22-inch display features a 1680x1050 resolution with a somewhat slower 8ms response time that is still acceptable for video but probably not suited for gaming. It features a VGA and DVI-D connector with HDCP. The stand is fully adjustable for height, tilt, pivot and swivel. Prices are around $700 to $800.

My 19 inch LCD monitor has "stuck Pixels" how can fix this?

Q.

A. If your LCD screen has a stuck or dead pixel , it's usually malfunctioning because the liquid in the liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) has not covered the whole screen. This can be easily fixed.

Steps
Turn off your computer monitor.
Get yourself a damp cloth, so that you don't scratch your screen.
Apply pressure to the area where the stuck pixel is. Do not put pressure anywhere else, as this may make more stuck pixels.
While applying pressure, turn on your computer and screen.
Remove pressure and the stuck pixel should be gone. This works as the liquid in the liquid crystal has not spread into each little pixel. This liquid is used with the backlight on your monitor, allowing different amounts of light through, which creates the different colours.

Tips
Many people report success with this technique but these instructions won't work in every case.
These instructions will fix "stuck" pixels, not "dead" ones. Dead pixels appear black while stuck pixels can be one constant color like red, blue or green.
An alternative, but similar technique involves gently massaging the stuck pixel on your screen. Another method involves playing a video (available for download in external links below) which changes colors 30 times per second.
If these instructions don't work, you can hopefully get the monitor fixed through your manufacturer. Follow the link at the bottom of the page to the Tom's Hardware article on how many pixels it takes for your specific manufacturer to replace the whole monitor. If your monitor falls under the specifications of replacement, get in contact with the manufacturer to set up replacement plans.
Gently tapping the area can also work in some cases.
You can find a program for removal at this site: http://fixdeadpixels.uv.ro. Put the colour square from the "dead pixel remover" on the actual stuck pixel from your screen.

Warnings
Do not attempt to open the monitor as it will void the warranty and the manufacturer will not replace it.
Make sure you don't get any electrical equipment wet or it may break.

LCD Monitors or CRT Monitors...Which do you prefer?

Q. Do you like the LDC Monitors, or CRT Monitors...
I like the LCD monitors (Flat Panel) what about you??

A. This choice comes down to a few key requirements. The LCD is the lightest and smallest, but the color accuracy and viewing angle are not as good as a CRT. Although if you are looking straight on, the difference is much less than with an angle. As time passes the viewing angle and color accuracy is becoming far less of an issue. As of today, for the absolute best color and viewing angle the CRT is my choice. For everyday use, gaming too, the LCD is the preferred style.

Is a CRT monitor more accurate than LCD for proofing?
Q. I just got 2 new LCD monitors. I have heard from colleagues that LCD's are not as accurate color-wise as CRT's - so I am considering keeping one in the loop (1 LCD and 1 CRT - I run dual display). I do a lot of print work and I want to be sure I have accuracy as far as color. The problem is my 19" CRT is massive and I would rather use an LCD for space on my desk.
Additional info: I have a Samsung Synchmaster 19" wide LCD and a 17" Dell Trinitron CRT...hope that helps

A. A good high-end CRT will surpass any LCD for proofing.

That said, you can often alter the color profile in the Display Properties window (click the Advanced button) if you are running the video card manufacturer's driver and management suite. Compare hard copies to the monitor and adjust as needed. That's a good idea with any monitor, CRT or LCD. And you should re-check it periodically; once a month or so should be fine for most work.

One last thought on LCDs. Make sure that you are running it in its native display resolution. Most LCDs can display at other resolutions but you will get heavy pixelization (jaggies) at anything other than the native resolution.

Good camera for a photographer?

Q. I am going to collage to be a photographer next year and was wondering what is a good camera to buy?

A. Digital SLR cameras are the ultimate for professional and amateur photographers alike. They offer all the great features of a film SLR camera with the ability to view your photos immediately and edit the digital images quickly and easily. Though the right camera for you is truly whichever fits your budget and wish list, follow these steps for some hints to choose the right digital SLR camera.

Compare camera sensors and resolution. The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II and EOS 5D, for example, have full-frame image sensors, meaning they're the same size as a 35mm film frame. Resolutions for digital SLRs range from 5 to 16.7 megapixels, the higher range being more professional and more expensive.

Check the LCD monitor for size and readability. Make sure you can comfortably read the screen in bright as well as normal light. Some cameras offer larger, and therefore more expensive, monitors for those who prefer them.

Look for the amount of internal memory as well as the ability for memory cards. You can buy extra memory cards of varying sizes to in effect never run out of space while you're on vacation or doing a photo shoot and don't have time to dump your photos into your laptop.

Search for the white balance and subject modes that suit your photography needs. Lighting settings such as automatic, sunlight, shade and flash help keep your photos bright no matter where you are. Automatic subject modes such as portrait, close-up, landscapes and action assist you in the achieving the correct settings for your photo type.

Compare the physical size of digital SLR cameras to decide what's best for you. Canon EOS Digital Rebel NT or Nikon D50 are smaller and easier to carry than the larger Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II or Nikon D2x. If you have multiple lenses and other accessories, your camera bag could get heavy and bulky very quickly with a large camera--however, those larger cameras carry some great functions that may be worth the extra weight.

Seek out a quick operating speed if you love to take lots of photos quickly. Some of the fastest digital SLRs are the Canon EOS-1D Mark II N with 8.5 frames per second and the Nikon D2x and D2Hs at 8 frames per second.

Buy a camera after looking at unique features, lenses and accessories. Tripods, camera bags, remote clickers and softening lenses are all extra costs but can add to the ease and beauty of your photographs.

what is the major difference besides price between a digital camera and a digital slr camera?
Q.

A. http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/difference-between-slr-and-digital.html ...

No Movie Mode
Right up until September of 2008, this was a huge difference between digital SLRs and compact digital cameras.

SLRs are mostly focused on capturing still images, not video.

But in September of 2008, Nikon released a camera called the D90 - the first digital SLR that can capture both still photos AND High Definition (HD) video.

Hot on the heels of the D90 came the announcement of the new Canon 5D Mark II - the second digital SLR that captures photos and video (also HD).

While the addition of a movie mode appears to be an emerging trend in the digital SLR market, the vast majority of old and even new SLR cameras can not capture video.

Limited Live View
If you've seen any compact digital cameras, then you know that you can compose a photo just by looking at the LCD monitor on the camera's back.

You'll notice that virtually everyone who uses a compact camera takes photos this way - they never look through the viewfinder.

A surprising difference between SLR and compact digital cameras is that some SLRs don't have a live preview mode (especially models released prior to 2007).

The LCD is only good for reviewing shots that you've already taken - it won't show you the photo you're about to take.

This means that you must compose all your photos by looking through the viewfinder.

Many newer digital SLR cameras allow you to compose photos using both the LCD and the viewfinder (these are called live view digital SLRs), but they all have one huge limitation: the sophisticated autofocus systems that SLRs are renowned for don't work very well in "live view" mode.

For now, live view on SLRs is fine if you to take photos of static subjects, but it's impossible to use for any type of action photography.

Manual Zoom
Compact digital cameras have electronic zooms. Just push a button (or lever) and the camera's lens zooms in and out.

With a digital SLR, you're going to need two hands - zooming is a manual process. In order to zoom, you have to twist a ring on the lens.

Zoom Range
Since we're on the topic of zooms, let's talk about another difference between SLR and compact digital cameras.

Recently several compact cameras have been introduced with "mega-zooms".

In the compact world, zoom range is described by a multiplier (i.e. 4x, 6x or 10x) while with digital SLR lenses it's described in millimeters (i.e. 50mm, 100mm or 300mm).

Compact cameras with a 10x or 12x zoom cover an extremely wide range from wide angle to telephoto.

A similar lens for a digital SLR camera costs $400 or more and it usually doesn't have the same optical quality as zooms that don't cover such a wide zoom range.

If you want a 12x zoom with a digital SLR, it's a better bet to get two lenses instead of just one.

Size and Weight
If your idea of the ultimate camera is something that fits in your pocket, then forget all about digital SLRs.

The most obvious difference between SLR and compact digital cameras (besides price) is sheer size. Even a small-sized digital SLR camera is twice the size and bulk of a compact camera.

While there are many new digital SLR models that are more portable (and are easier to travel with) the addition of a lens to your camera ensures that you'll never be able to stow it away in your pants.

So What Should You Buy?
Even though I've talked about the difference between SLR and digital compact cameras you still might be on the fence.

Here are a few questions that might help you make up your mind:

Do you want to take more professional-looking photos?
Do you want to be able to change the lens attached to your camera?
Do you want more control over the photos that you take?
Are you sick and tired of the slow speed of your compact camera?
Do you want to take lots of photos in dim light?
If you answered YES to every question, get a digital SLR. You'll be happier in the long run.

If you answered NO or MAYBE to one or more, then take a good look at the digital compact cameras.

xbox 360 to lcd monitor?

Q. whats the best way to connect my xbox 360 pro to my 19" LCD widescreen computer monitor? (the monitor has 1 vga input and 1 dvi input currently used by my computer)

i ordered the vga cable on trademe (similar to ebay) to find that i just got a 3rd party vga hd av cable (i think that's what its called)

should i return it and get an official one from town or buy a hdmi to dvi cable, also which resolutions would the hdmi to dvi support?

A. Just use the VGA cable. HDMI is not really necessary on the XBox anyway since it does not have anything that requires HDCP.

Give the third-party cable a try. If it works, no sense spending more money for the Microsoft cable.

which is the best 17 inch lcd monitor available in the market (cheapest)!!!?
Q. hi
im planning to buy a lcd monitor most prebably a hp lg or some thing similar
so here are the main things
1. it should be cheap around 150 dollars
2.it should be of good quality
3.if it has a dvi port that will be good !
4.it should be new and not out of date
5. sure it should be available in black

thanks for reading

A. Got it!!!

You want Value for your money but surely you want Quality...

You have your target Price for the Monitor that is with Quality ..

Try to look for "ViewSonic" same Specs with the Branded Ones with reasonable Price...

But be wise enough to choose the right Model that has good resolution and Fast Response Time you could find...

2Ms or 4Ms response Time is better to to prevent "Ghosting and Blurr" specially when you are into Gaming and Video...

A good Resolution for a 19" LCD Monitor are[1440x900] or [1280x1024]
-----------------------------------------------------------For 20"/21" or 22" the Best Resolution is[1680x1050]
-----------------------------------------------------------I
For:17" monitor the best Resolution would be...
[1440x900] and [1280x1024]
-----------------------------------------------------------
Regarding "LG" brand they don't produced good quality in "LCD" Monitors ...Tho!

But in "CRT" monitors they are one of the best in the Market....

I hope I give a little INFO...

A. The samsung is better. When looking at LCD monitors, the higher contrast ratio and the faster response time are both important factors. Samsung also has a good reputation for video products.

Monitors LCD widescreen 19 inch or greater.?
Q. I need an affordable monitor Whats the best deal you might know of?$159.99 on an acer 19 at tigerdirect is ok, but I want more bang formy buck or mayb step up to a 22 inch. Thanks for your help Merry Christmas.

A. Remember that buying LCD monitors online is always a risky proposal. Negligent shipping practices will get you a monitor with dead pixels (or even worse, one that is DOA)

Spend the extra $30 and get a decent Viewsonic or BenQ off newegg. It's a heavy investment... better to spend a little extra now instead of ending up with a $150 paperweight...

Whats a good refresh rate for a 28" LCD monitor?

Q. I have a 28" LCD monitor for my PC, and some games I play get a little blurry when the background turns. Could this be due to refresh rate?

What is the best refresh rate available, for a top of the line LCD?

A. EVERY LCD monitor has a default (recommended) resolution
and refresh rate. Anything else makes it work harder and
internally re-size/convert things. (Often with blurry results.)
Either look up the settings for your monitor model, or
see if any of the settings offer to return it to defaults.
Do this while using it in the mode you will use the most.
(Like while the game software is active.)

Why are PC LCD Monitor frequency/refresh rates so far behind the 120/240/320 frequencies offered for HDTV?
Q. In CRT days, the monitors were always way ahead of TV's, but now looking into a new PC Monitor, the standard for LCD still seems to be 60Hz, why is it taking so long for the PC LCD Market to catch up to the latest 120+ Hz frequencies that the latest LCD HDTV's offer?

A. For starters, LCD monitors are far more complicated than a TV that only has to display one resolution. Additionally, TVs are in an entirely different price bracket than most LCD monitors. 120Hz LCD monitors exist though.

Need Help hooking up my LCD monitor to my cable box?

Q. I have a HDCP compatible LCD LED monitor with only DVI and VGA inputs. My cable box is an older DIrecttv non hd box with rca (y/r/w) and S-video inputs. Need all the help pls. HDTV's are $100 more and trying to cheat my way around having to buy one.

A. Get an adapter like the ref below. Use it to connect from the S-video output of the satellite box to the yellow composite or VGA input on the monitor. That gives you video on your monitor, which has no audio input. Connect the red/white audio output of the satellite box to the input of an external amplifier (home theater amp or a simple stereo amp) that has its own speakers. Should work very well.

dlp vs lcd?
Q. I have a choice to make. A Soyo 42" LCD or a Toshiba 50" DLP. They are about the same price. Which one should I choose? And why. Thank you.

A. LCD is the best.

DLP and LCD televisions are two emerging technologies competing for a place in every consumer's home theater. Here's the thousand-dollar question: Which technology provides the best picture? The answer: It actually depends on the application(s) for which you intend to use your new DLP TV or LCD TV. Part of the reason has to do with basic mechanics: LCD and DLP technologies differ greatly in how the image is generated. What follows is a brief overview of how both technologies process light and display images.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology utilizes a small digital micromirror device (DMD) to tilt micromirrors less than the size of a human hair in width toward or away from a white lamp inside the DLP television. This process creates a light or dark pixel on the face of the projection screen, depending on how much light is reflected by the mirror. Each mirror can turn on or off several thousands of times per second, so this technology can reproduce 1024 shades of gray. There are four main components in the system: the DMD chip, the color wheel, the light source, and the optics. Light from the lamp passes through a color wheel filter and into the DMD chip, which will switch its mirrors on or off in relation to the color reflecting off them, producing an image.

Whether spread across a flat-panel screen or placed in the heart of a projector, all LCDs are pretty much the same. A matrix of thin-film transistors (TFTs) supplies voltage to liquid-crystal-filled cells sandwiched between two sheets of glass. When hit with an electrical charge, the crystals untwist to an exact degree to filter white light generated by a lamp behind the screen (for flat-panel TVs) or one shining through a small LCD chip (for projection TVs). LCD monitors reproduce colors through a process of subtraction: They block out particular color wavelengths from the spectrum of white light until they're left with just the right color. And, it's the intensity of light permitted to pass through this liquid-crystal matrix that enables LCD televisions to display images chock-full of colorsor gradations of them.

PICTURE CONSIDERATIONS
A Note On Methodology: Size is the most relevant attribute to investigate when evaluating the picture quality of either DLP or LCD televisions. As this is a discussion of both technologies, I must first point out that I compared the units in the sizes where they perform best, i.e., 50" for DLP TVs and 22" for LCD TVs. Today, DLP displays can be purchased in sizes ranging from 43" to 65" on the diagonal. LCD monitors run a bit smaller, from about 13 to 40 inches. I viewed the units in standard modes, that is, with all picture enhancements modes turned off. I found the edge enhancement mode on some DLPs to be very distracting, causing noise and jaggies rather than enhancing the image.

CONTRAST

LCD and DLP technologies have made tremendous strides over the past few years with respect to the reproduction of black levels. The current crop of LCD displays will have contrast ratios ranging from 350:1 to 800:1, while the new DLP televisions will range from 1000:1 to 1500:1. These are the manufacturer's specifications, so they're ascertained with the displays configured to maximize the unit's contrast-ratio performance, not necessarily to provide the best picture quality. Therefore, the manufacturer's specifications can be a bit misleading if you take into account more realistic viewing conditions, where exaggerated contrast rations aren't always the key to good image quality.

This can make for some counterintuitive observations. For example, the units I compared specified their contrast ratios at 500:1 (for the LCD TV) and 1000:1 (for the DLP TV). Therefore, you might expect the DLP to have had twice as good black levels as the LCD. Instead, the smaller 22" LCD TV had the edge over the larger 50" DLP TV.

Advantage: LCD, with the following caveat: There is not a clear winner here, since size impacts this performance level significantly. A large LCD TV cannot reproduce black levels remotely close those of a smaller LCD TV. Therefore, when comparing units of similar size, the DLP set will display richer black levels.

CLARITY

The native resolution of a display has a major impact on the clarity of the image reproduced. The 50" DLP TVs have native resolutions of 1280 x 720 using Texas Instruments HD2 Mustang Chipset. The 22" LCD TVs, by in comparison, had an EDTV resolution of 854 x 480. Thus, comparing playback through a progressive scan DVD player at 480p, the LCD monitors had the edge, since they were displaying the DVD signal in its native format. This allowed the smaller LCD monitors to be much clearer in image reproduction. The DLP televisions have to use built-in scalers to upscale the lower resolution signal to the DLP's higher native format. Given that the DLP televisions were scaling the signal, they produced a remarkably clear image. In general, a smaller screen will evoke a clearer image, especially when the viewing distance is not appreciably different. The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) suggest a seating position to allow for a viewing cone of 30 degrees side to side in order to have the optimum theater experience (this recommendation hold true regardless of the display technology). That equates to approximately 2.5 to 3 times the diagonal size of the screen for 16:9 aspect ratio displays. Therefore, a 50" television screen would have an optimum viewing distance of 10.5 feet to 12.5 feet and a 22" television screen would be 4.5 feet to 5.5 feet. Your viewing position may vary as these are recommendations only and are subject to personal preference.

Advantage: LCD for scenes with fine details, as it will display the image much more clearly than a DLP television within the optimum viewing distance.

COLOR SATURATION

Color saturation is the absence of gray in color. The less gray, the more saturated the color is said to be. The issue of color saturation is also evaluated independently of display size. Upon watching both the LCD TVs and DLP TVs, the LCDs clearly had more vivid color resolution. Watching scenes of nature showing thing like mountains, lakes, and flowers, proved that the LCD reproduced images more realistically.

Advantage: LCD. When you're watching scenes with vibrant and brilliant colors, the LCD displays will seem more lifelike.

ACCURACY / BRIGHTNESS
The human eye is more sensitive to levels of brightness than it is to variations of color. Therefore, most people will perceive a brighter television as being better. The brightness of an LCD display depends on the brightness of its backlight lamps. Likewise, a DLP monitor's brightness is relative to the output of its single lamp. Both the DLP TVs and LCD TVs had bright pictures; however, the LCD unit's were much brighter in their factory default settings.

The method with which color is rendered differs for each technology. The DLP television's color accuracy is heavily dependent on the color wheel filters for single chip designs. Since the color wheel has fixed color filters (red, green, and blue), color adjustment is limited on these single chip designs. The LCD televisions, on the other hand, contain individual red, green, and blue cells in each pixel, which offers increased flexibility in rendering colors. In the factory-default settings, the LCD monitors were clearly brighter and had colors that generally seemed more accurate than the larger DLP televisions. The LCD monitors also had more natural (or accurate) flesh tones than the DLPs did. There was even a large variance in the accuracy of colors amongst the DLP televisions.

Advantage: LCD, with the following caveat: The LCD TVs will be brighter and have a distinct color accuracy advantage during the first few years of their lives (each sets has about a 70,000-hour lifespan). An LCD panel will slowly decay with time, as will its backlight(s). This decay will result in colors that slowly shift (towards more red or blue) over time. DLP technology, on the other hand, may not be quite as accurate, but the colors will not shift over the course its lifespan. The lamps can also be replaced in DLP units (sometimes easily), which should return them to their original brightness levels.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

VIEWING ANGLE
Manufacturers claim viewing angles of 160-170° for both LCD and DLP displays. The viewable picture at these extreme angles is quite impressive for both technologies. The picture on the LCD displays remained consistent throughout all viewing angles. This was not the case with the DLP TVs. Viewing a DLP set from various angles will impact the overall color accuracy of the image. There is a considerable shift in the tints when changing vertical positions. You will notice this if you shift positions (i.e., stand up or sit down) while watching your DLP unit.

Advantage: LCD. If having a sizeable "sweet spot" for optimal viewing pleasure is a must, then an LCD television is your best bet.

COMPUTER USE
Both display technologies can be used with a computer. Neither LCD monitors nor DLP TV's will succumb to the problem of image persistence, which is certainly a concern when displaying static data and graphs (like the Excel spreadsheets, etc.). One will just have to that verify that the television has PC compatible inputs because not all displays will have a computer compatible input.

Advantage: Draw. If you need a display to double as a monitor and television, verify that it has a PC-compatible input through either VGA or DVI.

SIZE / PRICE
From a price-per-square-inch standpoint, the DLP TV is a better value. The initial capital cost of a DLP unit is less than that of a similarly sized LCD unit. However, the LCD TV will draw less power and operate quieter than a DLP will in direct comparison. Your LCD TV will not require any maintenance throughout the life of the unit; however, the DLP will require an occasional bulb replacement every 8000 hours or so. (These replacement bulbs cost about $250 - $350, and you may or may not need to hire a technician to do it. Some DLPs are configured so that a layperson can replace their bulbs, other aren't. This is definitely worth checking out before you buy.)

Advantage: DLP. DLP TVs generally cost less and currently are available in sizes larger than the largest LCD TVs in production. DLP displays are available in sizes ranging from 43-65" diagonally. LCD displays max out at 40" diagonally.

How to turn my LCD TV into Computer Monitor?

Q. My gf wants a LCD monitor for her computer but I have a LCD tv I don't use and was wondering if its possible to connect that as a monitor? Its a Sanyo Vizon like 23". The connections in the back are several standard (yellow, red, white) connectors, and S-Video connections. Is it possible to use this? If so what should I buy EXACTLY? Thanks again.

A. No Display in TV when connected to S-Video port

Step 1:

Check if the Display Settings for S-Video TV Out connections are set appropriate.

You can refer the following links for the configurations:

If still there is no display in TV, check the connection between the TV and the Notebook by performing the following steps:

1. Connect the TV to the Notebook.

2. Restart the Notebook. If the connection is good, then the boot information and the logos will be displayed in the TV. The display on the TV will quit only after entering Windows.

3. If there no display on TV while booting, the issue might be with the S-Video connector or the Cable. To confirm that, replace the cable and check.

4. If the display fails to come even after replacing the cable, then the issue should be with the S-Video connector in the Notebook or with the TV.

Good Luck and Happy Browsing

LCD Monitor vs LCD TV ?
Q. I'm buying the display screen for my ps3 but I don't know which is better and what are the differences ?
Price is not major factor, also are monitors usually smaller than TVs ?

A. It depends on how important you think graphics mean to you. An LCD TV is bigger than most monitors but sometimes have issues with input lag, which is how long it takes to display an image on the screen so the tv can process the image and make the resulting image more vivid and colorful. An LCD monitor, however, do not process the images, they merely show it, which results in no input lag, but typical monitors are smaller. So, the bottom line is if you sit farther away from your tv and like colorful picture quality, than an LCD tv is for you. If you sit closer to the tv and like fast gameplay, than an LCD monitor is for you.

are LCD monitors as reliable as CRT monitors?and what is dead pixel?please read details?

Q. are LCD monitor as reliable and long lasting as CRT monitors?and what brand is the best for LCD monitors?what brand you suggest?

i have a CRT monitor which i have been using since march 2004 now i think i gonna replace it with a LCD monitor but they cost more and i am not sure are they as reliable as CRT monitors cause they look very fragile(build wise) and can't deliver(infact they can only support a lot lower resolution)same resolution compared to their CRT counterparts ( i mean if you compare same sized monitors.

hey i hear sometimes new LCDs can have dead pixel.

what are these dead pixels?how can tell whether a LCD has dead pixel or not?

and how can i be sure whether a new LCD has dead pixel or not ?

and if a new LCD that i will buy have dead pixel will the seller replace it with another one?

and is this dead pixel problem is just happens with only LCD monitors but not with CRT monitors?

thanks for your answer

A. LCD, whether in a computer monitor or a television, does not have the same life span as a CRT. I give as an example my living room television, purchased waaaaaaay back in 1988 which STILL works perfectly. I know LCDs haven't been around for 20 years yet to prove they can last that long, but who do you know who has a 10 year old working LCD?

A dead pixel is a pixel that doesn't light up. I don't know about all manufacturers, but when I worked briefly for Apple, a small number of dead pixels was considered acceptable, i.e. no refund was issued.

If you want to make sure your new LCD doesn't have a dead pixel, see it running before you purchase it. You might have to buy a demo in order to do that, though.

Check out Consumer Reports for which LCDs have good reputations. I'm buying my husband a big flat screen TV this year. I intend to read up on them first at Consumer Reports. They don't accept any advertising so their reporting is unbiased.

What is the best LCD type monitor to play PS3 on (Type, size, manufacturer)?
Q.

A. Monitor as in computer monitor? Or TV? Its best to go with a tv and not monitor (unless by monitor you mean a 40inch TV without a tuner) purely because of size. When playing for hours on a tiny monitor, you eyes will murder you.

Type. PS3 takes full advantage of 1080p so if you have the money this would be the Best. 120Hz is nice but not necessary. And make sure you get LCD, not plasma.

Size. Completely Dependant on the size of your room and how close your going to be. 40 inch looks real nice on the ps3, as does 52 although 52 can be a bit big sometimes.

Manufacturer. Assuming your getting an LCD TV, Sony, Samsung and SHARP make the best LCD pannels. I personally have a Sony and its a thing of beauty. Hope this helps

Best lcd monitor for gaming?

Q. I have a crt monitor right now which is fine and I like to mainly play cs1.6 and i heard crt monitors are better for gaming because it has something to do with faster refresh rates.Im getting tired of staring at my old crt and want a gaming lcd that will look great but also play great like a crt.I really like samsung.Id like the lcd to be at least 24 inches.

A. Refresh rate used to be a problem with older monitors. But LCD technology has advanced a lot and most games these days are played on flat-screen monitors.

I've got a 1-year-old Samsung 2233RZ 120Hz monitor for gaming and it works well for most of my games. It's a 24" monitor but I recommend getting a 32" Samsung or Viewsonic LCD.

What is the best valued LCD monitor for gaming.?
Q. I am willing to spend at most $500 including tax and shipping, but would prefer to keep it around $400. I currently have a 21" CRT Monitor that is too heavy for my new desk. I would like to get a 20+ inch LCD monitor but have no clue on what to get. Any tips?

A. This viewsonic looks good, in australia it retails at around 310 USD.

Whats the best 22" LCD monitor for under $350?

Q. I'm building a computer and the last thing I have to decide on is the monitor, there's so many to choose from and a lot of conflicting information on many so I figured I'd ask people what they would choose as the best 22" LCD monitor for under $350.

A. I don't know if it is under $350 yet. When I bought mine it was a few dollars over $500 but that was a year ago and it was just out on the market. I have a Samsung, SyncMaster 226BW.

I LIKE it a bunch. It allows me to have two copies of MS Word open at once with two documents active and I can cut and paste back and forth. The documents are large enough for my old eyes to easily read both documents.

Did I say I LIKE it.

Check out Best Buys in your area, they have them set up so you can actually use them and get a feel for which you might like best.

I have noted one odd thing that happens on my monitor. Not sure if it computer, monitor or video card but it does something strange that you might like to know about. I do some JigSaw puzzles on line, usually one a day. I have noted that I get a darkening of the colors when I take a piece of the puzzle and move it from the bottom of the screen to the top. Some colors are more prone to it than others and it is not BAD at its worst. It is just something I have noted and felt you should know about it.

Good luck and Good hunting...

Hanns G 281D 28" LCD monitor 1920 x 1200 windows vista 64?

Q. I just bought this monitor this week and today i got the hdmi cable in the mail. my pc is only showing 1920 x 1080 as an option and there is a black border around the picture. it looks good, but it should be able to fill the screen with 1920 x 1200. any help would be great. thank you

A. Hmm... I would try this first: Go into Control Panel, choose Adjust Screen Resolution, then click on Advanced Settings. Click on the Monitor tab, and un-check the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" box, and click Apply. Then, click on the Adapter tab, and click on "List All Modes." See if 1920x1200 is available, and if it is, choose it.

If that doesn't help, try downloading the latest reference version of your video card's drivers. Sometimes newer drivers enable support for more video modes.

Good luck.

How do I get 1920 X 1200 resolution on my monitor?
Q. I just picked up the 24" Samsung SyncMaster 2433BW LCD monitor and cannot figure out how to get the max resolution on it. I'm no computer wiz so I'm not even sure if my Dell Dimension 4600 graphics or video card will even support it. Right now it is maxed at 1280 X 1024 with the highest (32 bit) color quality. I purchased this PC in 2004 and it came with the Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz 2.79GHz & 1.0 GB of RAM. I don't know how to check to see what type of graphics card was installed but I had it customized for multimedia usage. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks...
This monitor does support 1920 X 1200 resolution. About the drivers, how do I install them to see if that may fix the problem. A friend of mine said the Dell model I purchased would support that resolution...

A. Hello OU812?,

You can only reach the full resolution of your monitor if your video card supports it. If you have a basic video card, it will only let you as far as you currently are. You will need to go get a new video card or a newer computer.

Good Luck!

**********************************************
Update:
**********************************************

EDIT: The best bet would be to find out what kind of graphics card you have and do some research on it in Google.

* Right click your My Computers on your desktop and click properties.

* Click on Hardware.

* Click on Device Manager

* Click on Video Adapters and Find your Video Card.

* Note down the name and model number.

Take this information and plug into google. Find out what the max resolution is. If it is the size of your screen or bigger, you will need to contact Dell or find the video card adapter (remember that name and model number you saved?) and type into a search at dell for Drivers. Update the driver and you should be good to go.

I just think you havent installed the driver maybe since you formated a computer at some point and when you update it, you will probably be able to use the 1920 X 1200. Without the type of graphics card, I am unsure if your computer will or wont.

What is the best LCD monitor for my MacBook Pro?

Q. I have a MacBook Pro 13" and I am looking to purchase an external LCD HD monitor. I would like it to be 30". What is the best one that I can get while keeping the price under $400?

A. Presently, there is no such thing as a 30" monitor that costs under $400.

30-inch monitors are usually very high-resolution monitors that do 2560x1600, and those cost upwards of $1000.

Unless you want a 32-inch LCD HDTV, those might be had for $400, but their resolution is far lower, usually 1366x768. There are also LCD HDTVs that can do 1920x1080 (aka 1080p High Definition), but you would be hard-pressed to find one of those for under $400.

I need a HD LCD monitor that I can play my XBOX 360 on and also run my Macbook pro 13"?
Q. My budget is preferably below AU $350. I am a design student so accurate colours would be good but not essential. I also wouldn't mind speakers, but also not essential and I would like no lag for gaming.

Can you guys help me out?

A. If your 360 has HDMI out, then this is what i would recommend. if it only has component then see at the bottom.*

ASUS VW246H Widescreen LCD Monitor is what i recommend.

Welcome to JustCarDVDPlayers .com. This holiday season give the gift of car DVD players to loved ones, friends and the kids you love to spoil rotten! DVD players in the car have become one of the premier luxury features of any vehicle.

At JustCarDVDPlayers .com, you can learn all about car DVD players, car LCD screens, car video systems and more. Whether you are looking for in-dash DVD players, overhead car DVD players, portable DVD players, or twin in-car DVD players, JustCarDVDPlayers .com has the products, tips and articles to increase your knowledge.

Car DVD players have become exceedingly popular with families with young kids. DVD players in the mini-van, etc. are the perfect way to entertain children and adults alike on long and short road trips.

Luxury car owners include DVD players in their cars, some just because they can and because the finest models are truly must-have luxury items. But compared to five years ago when only people with money could afford car DVD players, they are now available in a full-range of capabilities and for any budget.

The technology has also advanced. Screens illustrate this best you can now buy LCD screens for your system that are small as five inches up to 15 inches. These screens can really be any size you want if you have the money to pay for specific customizations.

DVD player screens are mounted right into the backs of seats or overhead (the screen folds down for viewing with the push of a button). Some car DVD player screens are also available to be mounted up front in-dash.

A big advance in car DVD system audio is wireless headphones. If youre a family on a road trip, this is optimal; the kids can be entertained for hours with the same movie they watch every day, except the parents up front dont have to hear it!

Portable DVD players are also popular with the family set. These dont have to be mounted in the car or anything. Portable DVD players are sold as a self-contained unit with screen, speakers, and DVD drive all in one. Headphones are easily plugged into a jack on the unit.

Monitor Color Calibration?
Q. what type of monitor color calibration do you use, or do you just leave it alone?

A. I use the Spyder3 Elite. http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-mc-s3elite.php It has good reviews and the price is decent. It does monitors (both CRT & LCD), laptops, and projectors.

Every now and then the question "why doesn't an image look the same when I put it on a friends monitor?" or "when I had photos printed, they don't look like they do on my computer" appears on Y!A...the answer is always monitor calibration.

Some key tips on calibration:
1) have the monitor on and in use for at least 30 minutes
2) avoid direct light on the screen when calibrating (can you see any light reflecting on the screen?) I turn off overhead lights and shut the shades on the windows.

LCD Monitor??Price!?

Q. I want a lcd moniter+tv!! like i could also connect my and my pc to it and has speakers so how much would be its price??

A. Go to www.BestBuy.com and check and see for price listings... then deduce 25% of the price mark...cause bestbuy is not really a best buy

lcd monitors ?
Q. i have a samsung crt monitor and am planning to buy an lcd monitor ! how do i know if my system would be compatible with it ??? i have a intel d101ggc mobo [ integrated graphics ] .wat would be the price ?

A. If your connectors are the same you should have no issue. Not all LCD monitors or graphic cards support both DVI and VGA so you might need to get an adapter or just match your connectors.

Now your graphics card might not be able to optimally handle your LCD monitor but that's usually on the higher end LCD monitor. For instance, your graphics card may only be able to display 1024x768 while your LCD monitor may be able to handle much higher resolutions (this isn't a problem for lower end LCD monitors).

So worst case scenario is you pay for a premium LCD monitor but could have gotten away with a cheaper LCD monitor and get the same quality (but not be as future proof).

LCD computer monitors?

Q. I am in my sophmore year at college and i am really getting into using many differernt programs in the visual world like, AutoCad, maya, and 3Ds stuido max. I am working on a 15in. labtop now and i am looking to by a 19 or maybe 21+ in. lcd monitor to use. I was wondering what specs i should be looking for and whats good like Brightness, Contrast Ratio, Display Colors, Display Type. So if anyone knows anything about these, could you tell me whats a good or an ok spec. I am looking for something pretty cheap, like under $200. thanks for the help
and responce time

A. Get the biggest LCD monitor you can for the price. They're all pretty much the same in that price range you're talking about so the rest of the specs won't matter much.

man i need help on lcd monitor.?
Q. hi there, i wanna buy new lcd monitor. is the benq lcd monitor good?

BenQ E900HD with DVI
http://benq.com/products/LCD/?product=1375&page=features

i have samsung 15 inch lcd monitor for over 8 years and no problems. and i wanna replace this monitor. but i wanna know the benq monitor quality. i want use it like 5 year above. please tell me man before i wasting my money.

thank you very much.

A. When you've had good "life" from a product, why not go right back to that same manufacturer? Samsung is the leading selling LCD TV manufacturer in the US and possibly the world so it makes sense that their monitors are great! Their monitors are still great and the specs on this new one you're looking at are not all that impressive. Want to save energy? Turn the monitor off when you're not using it, plain and simple.

I have 2 in the house, even preferred the Samsung monitor over the one that came with my new computer package. It just plain looked better on the store display.
