can u play play the ps3 on a lcd monitor?

Q. i have an extra monitor and just bought a ps3. i was wonderin if i could use my monitor to play cuz i really dont want to buy a lcd tv

A. The PS3 will work with LCD monitors that have HDMI ports. Just use a standard HDMI cable.

Theoretically it will work with LCD monitors with DVI ports since the video signal carried by HDMI is digital DVI-D, but I have heard of instances where that didn't work. The PS3 HDMI can be connected to an LCD monitor DVI using a DVI-to-HDMI cable.

Keep in mind also that monitors tend not to have speakers, so if you are going to use a speakerless monitor you will have to hook up a separate set of speakers to the PS3 to get sound.

in a few years i plan to get a PS3, and put it right next to my computer, and have it share the monitor - my monitor is a 20.1 Widescreen HP with standard DVI and VGA, and 1650x1050 resolution.

will it work right? It should....
it will display black bars on the bottom on top because the monitor is 16:10, but thats expected. anything else i should know?

A. The main thing with PC LCD monitors, is that in order for it to work with the PS3, the monitor has to be HDCP compliant.

The monitor could have every type of connection known to man, but if it isn't HDCP compliant, the PS3 WILL NOT WORK with that monitor.

In other words, if your monitor is HDCP compliant than you'll be fine, otherwise, you'll need to go out and get a monitor that's HDCP compliant if you're planning to hook up your PS3 to it.

Whenever i play most games a "Resolution Notice" pops up that says for best picture quality change resolution to 1920x1080? ive searched the menu and cant find any way to? is it already on that resolution?

A. The console should automatically adjust resolution. I believe the only options available is to change the quality in the ps3 settings. Make sure it's on 1080p and not 720p.
