I would like to get started in photography..?

Q. ...especially since i plan on traveling a lot when I'm older and out of school. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what are some good, affordable camera's that I would be able to buy in order to start out?

A. Well....Anyone planning to start digital photography and purchasing a new digital camera should think about this:

There are TWO primary factors to consider:
1. How much money do you have to spend????
2. What level of photography do you aspire to "progress to" in the coming years ? (i.e. basic beginner, intermediate, or professional/business use).

For most beginners to intermediates I usually suggest one of these two manufacturers:

1. Canon EOS Rebel model XSi. (Also known as the Canon 450D in Britain)
The "kit" package comes with an 18-55mm zoom lens. The camera has pop-up flash, 12.2 Megapixels, and shutter speeds up to 1/4000th, 100-1,600 ISO sensitivity, 7 autoexposure Scene modes, PLUS Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority and Programmed Exposure Modes and Manual. It also has a 3 inch LCD screen, 3.5 frames continous per second max., 9 point AF system, Live View Functioning and the ability to record photos in 3, 6 or 12 Megapixels PLUS numerous other great features found only on more expensive cameras. Wal-Mart is also selling them now for about $799. Sam's Club also has them for $729.

I bought one of these 6 months ago and use it as my "back up" camera to a more expensive Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I absolutely love it. I have gotten some fantastic photos with it and cannot praise it enough. I routinely enlarge my photos to make 8x10's and 11x14 size enlargements with no noticeable distortion or loss of detail in the pictures.

2. Nikon D-90: If you prefer to use Nikon equipment I strongly recommend the Nikon D-90 which has 12.3 Megapixels, 3 inch monitor with Live View, 200-3,200 ISO sensitivity, 11 point AF system with Face Priority, 4.5 frames per second in continous mode, 5 advanced Scene modes for auto exposure plus Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority, Programmed Auto plus Manual. The D-90 sells for around $900-950. (Body ONLY. The 18-55mm lens cost an additional $150.-175.) Typically, Nikon equipment is slightly more expensive than Canon equipment, but (having owned both Nikon and Canon cameras), I have seldom noticed BETTER quality results using Nikon equipment.

These two selections are probably the best choices for any beginner to intermediate skill level, offering the most lenses and other accessories, dealers and places to purchase.

I strongly recommend that ALL beginners buy a good book on digital photography AND take a class from a Vocational school or Community Education Center in your area.

Q. This is going to be my 1st time buying a camera myself. I take pictures all the time with my moms but the zoom isn't that great and it take a long time for the camera to take the picture. A. You have listed quite a few different camera types.

Keep in mind the following points.

Compact cameras (the slim, colorful ones) - designed to be easy to use, take decent pictures and be suitable to be carried around or slipped in a hand bag. Lenses and sensors are small. All have live view, viewfinders are becoming rare. In this range, look at Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic.

Mid Range/Big Zoom/SLR Like (The sony H50 and similar) - Smaller than an SLR, but often have some manual control options available. A larger body than a compact, allowing for a larger sensor and zoom. Lens quality is generally higher than a compact, but you have a fixed lens which cannon be removed. Generally have live view and viewfinder. Look at Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic.

Digital SLR. - "Bulky" Cameras with large sensors and removable lenses. A lot more versatile, as the camera can be adapted to your needs through purchases of flash, lenses etc. Many models do not have live view, but all have viewfinder. Generally do not have any movie modes (Except the D90 and 5D Mark II). DSLRs come in Entry level, Enthusiast level, and Pro level Models. If you are looking at an SLR, take a look at http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/ as there is an awful lot to consider.

Good Luck!

What features should my not pricey digital camera have? I have never used a digital before?

Q. Auto focus, manual focus, what else for under $200. Himself is about to go out & buy me one what features shall I tell him the camera should have? (No I can't go with him, it's a gift for me.)

A. Cameras are judged by image quality rank system..

But mostly ppl buy on the basis of Brand name, mega pixel and LCD monitor size..not good option..

Other factors are
-Good Flash Range.
-Speedy performance
-Quick Flash recharge Time
-Good indoor picture capability

I can recommend some cameras which have image rank 8 or 9 (out of 10).

Fujifilm F40fd (Best).
Fujifilm F20 (Best).
Fujifilm F31fd.
Nikon L11
Olympus FE-250
Canon A720IS

What are the dangers of operating CRT monitors at low temperatures?

Q. I am getting an arcade cabinet made in 2002 with a 27" CRT monitor inside it. I have to keep it in my garage which is uninsulated. I am investigating potential winter use, but have heard that CRTs and cold weather do not get along.

What is the lowest operating temperature for a CRT monitor? What happens if you run it below this temperature?

A. CRT monitors are not that affected by cold. Condensation would only happen if you took a cold object, like a monitor, from the cold (your garage) into a warm environment (the house) where the humidity in the air would then condense on the cold surfaces. Otherwise condensation is not a concern.

CRT's will take a little bit to warm up, as they use heaters in the tubes to generate enough heat to produce the electrons, but otherwise they will work just fine.

Now LCD's and cold weather can be an issue, as they would become slow to respond and potentially could freeze and break if cold enough, due to the liquid crystals inside reacting with the cold, but I've not had one break on me yet with temps down below zero.

where can i find a 4:3 lcd tv for inside a arcade cabinet?
Q. What i did was took an old arcade cabinet and gutted it. I want to put a playstation with a tv inside of it. Problem is all new tvs are 16:9. I need an lcd tv thats 4:3 since the arcade machine used to have a tube television in it. Can anyone help?

A. No new 4:3 LCDs are being made anymore, you'll have to look on the used market. Best option is to get the largest 4:3 or 5:4 LCD monitor you can find, which will probably be about 19 inches or so. But be ready to be disappointed by the picture quality. Arcade games are intended for use with a high-contrast CRT monitor.

Can you use the lcd monitor to view your shot on a Canon 5d?

Q. As oppossed to using the viewfinder? Is there a setting I have to change to turn the lcd monitor on while shooting?

A. The Canon EOS 5D does not have Liveview.

If you mean the 5D Mark II then it does, and check your manual to see how to turn it on. If you lost it you can download the full manual direct from the canon website.

What's the difference between these two monitors?
Q. I've tested out to different monitors SEPARATELY with a DVI cable on my computer.

They are both 23" Dell LED monitors. One gives exceptional picture quality. The other one is good, but just not as a bright nad vivid, though they are on the exact same settings as far as brightness, contrast, etc.

The first one is:
Dell S2340M 23” Flat Panel HD LED Monitor (1920x1080)

What am I missing?
Thanks.

At first I hooked them up as dual monitors, one with a DVI connection and the other HDMI. And that's when I noticed the stark difference.

So, then I thought maybe it had something to do with my graphics card. So as a test, I tested out the second monitor separately with just the DVI cable, no other monitor hooked up. But it still showed the same quality. I even used the VGA cable, and still it looked the same to me!

I even got someone else to look at it, to see what I was seeing, and we both noticed the difference. I adjusted the color brightness, contrast, color saturation, etc, but that didn't help any. And yes, all under the same lighting conditions.

So perhaps, you're right, something about the specs that's not listed or something with the viewing angles. I have no idea. It doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks.

A. The difference is panel type, which is what you should focus on when choosing a monitor. Most of the specs and features listed for monitors are just marketing gimmicks.

The S2340M uses a IPS panel and the ST2321L a TN panel. IPS panels are mainly used in premium displays and offer the best viewing angles and color reproduction of any other LCD panel type. TN panels are just the opposite, with narrow viewing angles and a limited color gamut.

How do I get my speakers to my monitor to work ?!?

Q. Okay so I have no speakera & I just noticed that my monitor comes with built in speakers, So how do i get my Speakers to my Monitor wich is a HP 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor with BrightView Panel, 16:9, W2338H <-- That is the exact Monitor i have That i bought from walmart.. PLease help ! :)

A. On the back of the monitor, there should be a connection for a 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone jack. This is the sound input connection.

You simply need a cable that has the standard headphone jack on both ends. One plugs into the monitor and the other plugs into the computer.

That cable should have been included in the box with the Monitor.

How long do LCD monitors typically last?

Q. I bought an Acer X163W LCD monitor from wallmart for $99.99, and i was wondering ho long it will last in a 24/7 media environment. I've already had it on for 4 months 24/7 and don't notice anything changing with image quality and brightness.

A. Typically the backlight is rated 50,000 hours, so do the math to see how many years that is. 50,000/24/365 = 5.7 years. Multiply that by 3 if use averages 8 hrs/day. However, if other electronic components are overrated or substandard, or you physically fatigue a connector or break something, that may shorten its life.

Of all the laptops and LCD monitors/TV's at home or small office at work, I have only seen one failure. A 17" Dell LCD monitor failed at work, but not sure exactly what the issue was, maybe a fatigued VGA connector. At first it would fail to wake from standby unless I jiggled the cable. But eventually it was just a black screen with blinking green power LED (which was usually solid green when on or amber in standby). Same cable works fine with different monitor.

I have a PIII 500 laptop purchased Jan 2000 that still works. And I left it on 24/7 for a couple of years as a wireless terminal for a PC in my basement. Although, the display did go into standby when not in use. I have not fired it up much lately other than to get some data from it (dual boots Win98se and Linux).

Is there a LCD monitor which can connect to a PS2?
Q. I need to buy an LCD monitor, preferably 21 inch or 22 inch which has connectors for PS2 and preferably PS3 also (though the latter is not important).
I already have a Z-5500 speakers which are said to be the best in pc speakers, I also would like to get an LCD monitor which will make it really cool to play games on with my PS2.
Thanks.

A. i recommend Samsung Touch Of Color T220HD 22-inch LCD HDTV Monitor.
Touch of Color bezel - While the crystal-like bezel frame catches light beautifully, it actually reduces reflection of light off the bezel. And since the rich red color is injection molded for a blown glass effect, instead of spray painted, there is less environmental impact. It's easy on your eyes as well as on the environment
Dolby Digital Surround (3 W x 2 ch) An invisible speaker system with Dolby Digital Surround (3 W x 2 ch) gives sound quality to match the impressive picture.
10,000 - 1 Dynamic-Contrast Ratio - The ultra-wide range gives you blacks and whites that are full of detail, even under adverse lighting conditions (typically 1,000 - 1 static-contrast ratio)
300 cdm2 Brightness
Full HDTV monitor - The T220HD features a built-in full HD 1080p digital HDTV tuner, so you can watch both TV and HDTVDual HDMI inputs, DVI and VGA inputs / 2 HDMI connections

What is different between a progressive scaned and none progressive sacned image?

Q. Do they effect on the image quality or not. Or is the the progressice scan effective in all tvs?

A. Progressive scan creates a complete image in one field (1/60 sec in the US) by displaying every line one after the other. The other method, called interlace, takes two fields to complete an image; the first field displays only every other line (the odd-nombered lines, e.g.), and the second field displays the remaining lines. Interlace scanning was used when television was first developed to reduce the required bandwidth needed to transmit the signal. For images that are stationary or slow-moving, your eye retains the image of the first field while the second field is being displayed, so you have the illusion of a complete picture with all the scan lines.

There are two problems with interlacing: 1) fast-moving objects will contain only half the number of lines in any position and will suffer loss of resolution. Edges of moving objects will appear jagged. 2) Cathode ray tube (CRT) displays have difficulty keeping the spacing between the two sets of lines exactly right. This is especially noticeable in text images (even stationary ones) and this is the reason that computer monitors are always progressive scan, and have been from the early days.

New TV sets have gone away from CRTs and use "fixed pixel" displays such as plasma, LCD or DLP. All of these displays are progressive scan; program material that is interlaced is converted to progressive by the electronics in the TV.

May I get a better image by connecting my screen to a DVI port?
Q. My LCD screen has both a VGA and a DVI input. I'm currently using the VGA one, connected to my 9800gtx+ with a VGA->DVI adapter.
Will I get a better image quality by using the DVI input?

A. You should use DVI whenever possible for a totally digital connection. I don't see the point of converting a digital video signal into analog VGA only to have the monitor convert it back to digital for display.

How to program a remote to work with a computer monitor?

Q. I bought a 24 inch HDMI lcd computer monitor a while back for my computer, but I now use it for my Xbox 360. The monitor has speakers, but I can only adjust the volume if I get up and use the touch buttons on the front of the monitor, which are usually unresponsive and a pain in the butt to use. I was wondering if their is any way possible for me to program a remote to use with the monitor. If that isn't possible, is their a way to control the volume directly from my Xbox 360? I saw an Xbox 360 remote, but does that actually control volume?

The monitor is a Samsung 24 in. SyncMaster 2494 HM.

A. If the monitor didn't come with a remote, it has no infrared sensor on it for a remote to begin with. To make it simple for you to understand, it ain't gonna happen.

How to hook up a pc monitor to cable box?
Q. Hello I have IO digital cable and I am using a fifteen year old piece of c&%p tv that is on its last legs. But for my computer I have this beautiful 24 inch LCD monitor for my computer. Is there any way for me to hook up my IO box to my monitor directly or must I have a tuner card put into my pc

A. Does the cable box have an hdmi port on the back of it? You could potentially run an hdmi to dvi cable to your monitor (Or hdmi to vga whatever your monitor is using currently.) Then you would just have to use the cablebox remote to change the input source.

Why should i get a new computer monitor when i get buy a new TV and use it as computer monitor?

Q. I have an old TV and an old computer. I waa looking at new computers today and almost bought an HP tower with LCD monitor. The latter was on sale for $90. Then i noticed that a new HD tv was on sale for $140. Why not get the new 19inch TV and also use it as my computer monitor? The only thing i use the computer for is buying and selling stocks. I watch stock prices in real time. Your opinion please.

A. I myself have a 32 inch tv as my monitor as well as a tv in my office. An HDTV as a monitor your display will be sharp and clear. All new units have a pc selection on your source or input options. Just plug the computer into the tv using a VGA cable..

Should I buy widescreen monitor if the optimal resolution on my current laptop is 1024x768?
Q. I'm using a ThinkPad T41p as my sole computer right now. Would like to get an LCD monitor...either 19" LCD regular (not widescreen) or 20-22" widescreen...trying to decide which to get.

Widescreen monitors seems to be the new standard. However, I'm limited by my laptop video card with optimal resolution is 1024x768. Should I purchase a widescreen monitor and just deal with the flattened stretched out text and images, or will my limited video card never be able to take advantage of the benefits of a widescreen monitor?

From usage perspective: I use Microsoft Office Powerpoint, Excel, Word, and surf the internet all day long. I watch online videos on YouTube. I do not play games, but watch occasional movie.

Thanks for your suggestions!

A. "Optimal Resolution" is a function of the LCD screen, not the video adapter. Go into your graphic settings and see what widescreen resolutions are available. Some common WS resolutions you will see are 1280X720, 1440x900, and 1680x1050 - the last two being the most common in full sized monitors. Setting your color depth to 16 bit will usually allow a wider range of resolution settings, BTW. If any of those resolutions are supported, pick a monitor that matches. You may get additional resolutions settings if you update your graphics driver to the latest version.

Is there a real difference between HDMI and component cables?

Q. I have a Sony Grand Wega LCD rear projector HDTV. I have digital cable installed and am running component cables from the HD-DVR to my television. Would I notice a huge difference if I switched from the component cables to a HDMI cable? I know that YPbPr is for analog signals and YCbCr is for digital signals, but I honestly don't know which cables I have.

A. Between an HD-DVR and an LCD HDTV such as your Sony Grand WEGA you probably wouldn't notice much of improvement in image quality if any.

If you're not using an HDMI or DVI-D interconnect between your video source and your display then you are using an analog YPbPr component video interconnect.

You're essentially correct that “YPbPr is for analog signals and YCbCr is for digital signals.” YPbPr and YCbCr are not “analog component inputs”; YCbCr is the COLOR SPACE FORMAT used for DIGITAL component video and YPbPr is the familiar color space counterpart for ANALOG component video. All digital video content on DVD-Videos, HD DVDs, and Blu-ray video discs is encoded as YCbCr component video.

Using an HDMI connection between a digital STB, DBS receiver, or DVD disc player, rather than analog YPbPr component connection, would indeed eliminate one digital-to-analog conversion step as well as “one less analog to digital conversion” step when using a digital display such as a high-definition LCD TV or monitor. Compliant HDMI connections should invariably provide an advantage when using digital displays even if masked by other equipment-related image quality shortcomings.

HDMI is currently positioned to become the preferred digital interconnect for consumer audio-video equipment though, as mentioned, compatibility issues do remain.

Aside from the issue of audio or video quality, using HDMI-HDCP compliant connections should mitigate potential problems that may arise in the near future when ICT enabled HD video content becomes more commonplace (ICT enabled HD video content is inevitable.)

The HDMI specification also provides for a Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) bus on CEC enabled equipment, which is intended to provide enhanced interoperability. This allows HDMI-CEC enabled A/V equipment to automatically communicate with each other across a compatible system. This provides the ability of “plug & play” auto-configuration with the potential to minimize the number of remote controls as well as the overall number of key-presses required to execute various control functions. (The downside is that the HDMI “plug & play” auto-configuration may not always provide the best possible equipment configuration. This is more an issue of a manufacturer’s implementation of HDMI-CEC than a shortcoming of the HDMI specification itself.)

The enhanced audio and video features supported by the use of HDMI 1.3a compatible A/V equipment are as follows:

   • Preserve the full, unaltered transmission of the new lossless Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ compressed digital surround sound formats between compatible A/V receivers, A/V pre-amplifier/amplifier combos, or A/V control centers and compatible A/V sources. (Note: Onkyo has just released a couple of new A/V receivers* that support HDMI 1.3a, Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ decoding);
   • Lip Sync - automatic audio/video syncing capability (helpful whenever a large quantity of video processing occurs in 1.3a compliant A/V equipment);
   • Deep Color™ - 30-bit, 36-bit and 48-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths; a larger color palette eliminates on-screen color banding for smoother transitions between colors;
   • Extended color gamut (IEC 61966-2-4 color standard) "xvYCC" support. ("xvYCC" is an abbreviation for extended-gamut YCC color space for video applications.)

Though not a 100% guarantee the best assurance of HDMI compatibility, along with the potential to offer the highest quality of audio and video performance, is to purchase A/V hardware that is certified as SimplayHD, SimplayHDT, or is certified by a third-party HDMI Authorized Testing Center (ATC) as fully compliant with the HDMI specifications.

Q. I need a gaming tv (yea call of duty mw2) and i am looking for a good 1080p tv no too big i dont want to search the entire tv for people lol. I am looking for a good quality tv but I am not looking to spend hundreds. Does anyone know a good place thats trustworthy and will have a good tv and wont rip me off?

A. "I am not looking to spend hundreds" - well what does that mean to your budget exactly? Are you looking to spend under $100? Is a bit confusing.

Generally good pricing options can be snagged from Amazon.com or ABC Warehouse though. They both consistently have some of the best prices out there. And Walmart is Walmart, always worth looking at. If you're looking for something a bit smaller, maybe in the 20" - 24" range, you could look at TV/Monitor combo devices. Something like that you might find a bargain from newegg or Tiger Direct.

Again, I don't really understand your budget needs, but here are some smaller, and what I think, cheaper options,

Found out my Dell E153FPT is a touchscreen. How do I restore?
Q. Bought a nice Dell E153FPT LCD flat screen monitor at a thrift store. Found out that this model number is a touchscreen. I am disabled and would find it very useful to have this feature restored. Any suggestions? Thanx!

A. >I know that Windows 7 has accessibility features for handicapped individuals and so if you have W7, you should look at HELP to see how accessability features are enabled including touch screen applications. According to this Dell description, the touch features are enabled by specific touch enabled software...

"While touch optimized applications are not required for touch screen usage they are especially compelling for: Customers with touch optimized applications (Retail Point-of-Sale, Manufacturing, Banking, Hospitality Kiosks, Food Service, Hospitals, Electronic Voting, Tablet applications); customers who utilize menu driven applications (Healthcare); customers who utilize browser driven applications (Call Centers); disabled users, or other users with mouse challenges."

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/popupproductdetail.aspx?sku=320-4088&?~lt=popup&c=us&l=en&s=dfb&cs=28

So I presume this means there is nothing software wise for the LCD itself. Your operating system and software have to provide the ability to use the screen as a touchscreen. if your software has that capability, you should just have to plug the LCD into your computer and it should be working for you.

Read your specific HELP sections in your software and enable any windows features which interface with touch capability.

what is the best laptop brand?

Q. i'm looking for a laptop brand that is relatively affordable, has 4 GB or more, and more than 320 GB hardrive. a mac would be IDEAL, but it costs way too much.

i've been comparing the dell inspiron and hp laptops, and both seem relatively good.
any suggestions?
*** i want to use it for college and for my future career if that helps

A. Apple
Apple is by far the best laptop brand (2010) as it beats most others in almost all departments. Though most of Apple's products are on the expensive side, performance of Apple Macbook and Apple Macbook Pro has proved that its products are worth every penny. With the latest Mac OS installed in these machines, their performance is a cut above the rest. What sets Apple apart is its prompt customer service and technical support, besides the excellent overall design. If you want to opt for one of the best laptops (2010), go for Apple.

Sony
Another expensive but trusted brand is Sony. Its VAIO series is a hit in terms of design, features and performance. Check out Sony if you want to go for stylish and sturdy designs.

Lenovo
Known for creating some of the most ergonomically efficient laptop computers, Lenovo is the best laptop brand (2010), if one purely focuses on functionality and features. Its Thinkpad Edge and IdeaPad laptops are some of the best products to hit the market in the recent past.

Toshiba
If you are looking for low cost, high performance laptops, Toshiba is one of the best laptop brands to opt for. They have delivered one of best netbooks in the form of Toshiba Mini NB305 and one of the best laptops in the form of Toshiba Satellite E205. Even if it's not the cheap laptop brand (2010), it certainly offers many products in the low cost range.

HP
HP was and still remains one of the biggest and best laptop computer manufacturers in the world. HP is a pioneer when it comes to bringing about innovation in laptop technology. HP still remains one of the best, despite a large amount of competition from other brands. The sheer range and variety of products makes it one of the most unique laptop brands.

Dell
If you want to buy a quality product and price is no issue, then Dell remains one of the best choices. The reason why it's the best laptop brand 2010, in terms of quality, features and performance is its reliability. The Dell Vostro and Studio lines are some of the best in the business with a great combination of features, geared towards top performance. Compaq
The Compaq Portable, a portable IBM PC compatible personal computer and the first product of Compaq was announced in November 1982.Compaq- designing of the original Compaq PC was first planned out on a placemat by the founders while they were dining in a restaurant. As IBM mostly used the retro parts for their PC, Compaq was able to market a legal IBM clone. Also Microsoft had retained the power to license the operating system to other computer manufacturers. The only part which had to be duplicated was the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), which Compaq did legally by using reverse-engineering by paying a sum of $1 million.

Which of These Laptop Brands Have the Best Reputations? The Worst?

how to i let monitor screen to show on dslr camera?

Q. how to i let monitor screen to show on dslr camera?

When I am trying to take pictures, LCD monitor screen doesnt show so I have to use the viewfinder eyepiece. i have canon rebel xti dslr camera

can you help please

A. Read the manual. If it does not say anything about LiveView, it wouldn't be possible to use the rear LCD as a viewfinder on your camera. Your only choice is to use the tiny optical viewfinder, the way lots of great pictures were taken decades back during the film era.

what is a good dslr camera that has video?
Q. I'm looking for a DSLR camera that has video, I was looking into the Nikon D3100 or the Canon T3i BUT I like how the T3i Has the flip part of the camera so you can see your self while recording. (from my research I saw that the D3100 doesn't have that) I'm not sure if anyone knows of any that are better, that won't cost an arm and a leg. My budget is approx $800

As of right now I have the Nikon D3000 but.... I decided on selling it so I can upgrade, I want a camera that is good for photography and videos..... Help please?

A. By keeping in view your requirements and your mentioned budget, i would recommend you the Nikon D5100. It has advanced features then the Canon T3i. The D5100 has a slight edge
(0.6 f-stops) in low noise, high ISO performance (1183 ISO). D5100 has Significantly better image quality (80.0) and has a 13 EV dynamic range. D5100 also Distinguishes 1.4 more bits of color
D5100's movies are look great, with smooth motion and impressively low noise in dim light. It has In camera HDR which Combines multiple exposures to capture high dynamic range. D5100 has APS-C 23.6x15.6mm sensor, which is much larger than T3i. It has 3x less delay when turning on. It has contrast detection video autofocus which automatically focuses video shooting. The D5100's boost ISO is 1 f-stop better (25600 ISO) and has 11 focus points which Set focus accurately within the frame. the following link will help you to decide about this camera.

http://www.amazon.com/review/R1KCF39XVQCDBJ/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B004V4IWHY&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=tawerh-20

It has 3-inch, 921,000-dot Super-Density horizontal type Vari-Angle LCD Monitor. It has In-camera Special Effects Mode, n-camera HDR (High Dynamic Range), Stunning Full 1080p HD and Movies with Full Time Autofocus. ISO Sensitivity: 100-6400 (Extended Mode: 100-25600)

Should I clean a glossy-coated LCD monitor with ammonia-free Windex?

Q. I tried cleaning my LCD monitor with water alone, but it doesn't work: it's still dirty and dusty. Many people have recommended to not use Windex because it has ammonia, but I have the ammonia-free solution. Should I clean it with this? Also, what type of cloth should I use?

Thanks.

A. I prefer to stick with water alone. If that's not working, water with the tiniest amount possible of a mild dish soap might cut the grease a bit better.

How Good is LED monitor Compare to LCD Monitor For photo Editing and Gaming?
Q. I have thinking to Purchase LED or LCD monitor monitor for my photo editing purpose but also for GAming, but my question which are the best for editing?

A. For those who don't know, LED monitors are just LCD monitors that use bright white LEDs instead of fluorescent bulbs as the backlight.

The main advantage of LED monitors is that they consume much less power than traditional monitors. They can also have improved contrast ratios since LEDs can be dimmed over a wider range of brightness (the backlight is dimmed when displaying dark colors).

For accurate color reproduction when photo editing, either LED or LCD technology would be fine. The best monitor for the job would depend on other factors such as panel type. A more expensive IPS panel would be better than a cheaper TN panel that would have significant color shifting when the viewing angle changed.

What is the best monitor brand that I can use for my ps3?
Q. What is the best monitor brand that I can use for my ps3?I need an monitor that can support the resolution of 1080p for my ps3. I also have a question if a monitor has the max resolution of 1980x1080 does it mean it can support 1080p?Thanks.

A. Get Samsung PX2370, its awesome. On cnet website its the best reviewed monitor. I bought it 2 months ago for my ps3 and its a treat to play games on it. It supports1080p resolution which means 1920x1080 (not 1980x1080, there is no such resolution like 1980x1080). And its very thin & sexy. Here is a link:

What is a good blu-ray player to run to my lcd monitor?

Q. I just read i could hook up my P244W lcd monitor to a blu-ray player.I have 2 hdmi imput's and max resolution 1920x1080. Do you think a blu-ray player should work with this monitor?

A. Yes HD movies on blu-ray discs have a resolution of 1080p, so your monitor supports that resolution. But 24 inch is low for watching HD movies in full glory (anything of 32 inch or above would be good) .

Besides Blu-Ray players in India are rediculously high priced. If you can afford it, sony PS3 would be great investment for playing Blu-Ray discs as well as games in budget of around 20000 or you can wait for prices to come down.

How can I know if DVI port on LCD monitor is HDCP-compliant?
Q. I'm planning to connect my ps3 to LCD monitor. I have DVI to HDMI cable. How can I know if DVI port in LCD monitor is HDCP compliant?

A. Google up the model name of your LCD monitor and read the specifications on the manufacturer's website.

Or, read your manual

What are some versatile, high-end cameras good for both still and video use?

Q. I haven't used a DSLR before, but since I'm a fast learner and since I need a camera that is versatile enough to capture excellent photos as well as record sharp video, I'm considering investing in one. I have also heard of Sony's SLTs as versatile, as well. Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks.

A. I would suggest you the NIKON D5100, because it has excellent result for both pictures and videos. Judged on its own merits the D5100 is a great camera, but we're concerned that an enthusiastic beginner might outgrow it faster than some of the competition. Image quality is definitely the D5100's trump card. It offers effectively the same image quality as the higher-end D7000, at a lower cost. D5100 has normal interface, but with plenty of manual control. The D5100's movies are look great, with smooth motion and impressively low noise in dim light. At low ISO settings, the D5100 is on a par with the best of the competition, but at the higher ISO settings, it produces some of the best image quality that we've ever seen from an APS-C camera. The following link will give you the more detailed information and reviews of professionals about this camera

http://www.amazon.com/review/R1KCF39XVQCDBJ/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B004V4IWHY&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=tawerh-20

D5100 has 3-inch, 921,000-dot Super-Density horizontal type Vari-Angle LCD Monitor. In-camera Special Effects Mode, 1 Yr Camera / 5 Yrs Lens. In-camera HDR (High Dynamic Range). It has
stunning Full 1080p HD Movies with Full Time auto focus with ISO Sensitivity: 100-6400 (Extended Mode: 100-25600).

Which brand is the best among the best for dslr camera?
Q. well, like the question said.. among nikon, sony and canon which one is the best dslr camera for a beginner like me? and how much does it cost in Ringgit Malaysia?

A. For perfect photos, fast and simple, there's nothing better than Canon's EOS Rebel XS. With powerful features including a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, Canon's DIGIC III processor, fast shooting and more, it's a digital powerhouse. With simple, easy-to-use controls, a compact design, a 2.5-inch LCD monitor, and Live View Function, it's a beginner's dream come true.

Do I have to replace the lcd monitor to get a sharper view after I upgrade my new graphic card?

Q. I bought GTX 470 by EVGA. However, the texts and everything looks kinda blurry at 1280x800 or 768. My monitor is Gateway, FPD2485W and bought it three years ago. If I replace the monitor with a newer one, will that make everything more sharp and clear with XP or 7?

A. No duh it looks blurry. You're not running your LCD at native resolution. Turn it up to 1920x1200 and everything will look fine.

I Have to ship out a 22 inch LCD monitor, help me please?

Q. I sold an LCD monitor on ebay and I am to ship it out today. What is the most careful way to do so? Do I use those little popcorn things, newspaper, plastic bags, what? Should I just get a box from the post office? Because I don't have the orginial box. I just want to make sure no damage occurs during the shipment and I have to give a refund because the monitor broke or got scratched or something.

Thanks!

A. take it to a shipping store that packs it for you. i would use plenty of the jumbo bubble - bubble wrap. peanuts have way too much static. make sure you get a box several times bigger than the monitor so you can put plenty of bubble wrap wround it so it basically floats in the box.

What's the best way to clean an LCD monitor?
Q. My LG LCD monitor is looking kind of dirty. How do I clean it without damaging it?

A. Use a microfiber cloth and anti-static LCD cleaning spray; you can find the latter at Office Depot.

How can I recycle a laptop monitor as a desktop monitor?

Q. I want to recycle an old defective laptop. I have a desktop cpu and I wonder if I can use the laptop lcd screen for a desktop monitor. What should I do?

A. You don't, since you have to design a whole video card from scratch.

Sell the LCD screen on eBay. Someone will buy it since it's far often that someone smashed the screen but the rest of the computer still runs. THEN they do a screen transplant, and voila, whole computer.

How do I hook up a desktop monitor to my laptop with a broken LCD?
Q. My laptop is fine but the LCD screen is destroyed. I have a Dell desktop monitor from an old computer, can I hook it up to my laptop? Thanks and Merry Christmas!
about 1/6 of the screen works, the top left part. I'm typing on it right now because I have moved all the desktop icons to the visible part (through trial and error!) and my internet connection works fine. Thanks for any suggestions

A. It will be difficult because you will need to use the laptop screen to make the PC screen work

What digital camera would you recommend?
Q. I'm looking for a decent digital camera to use primarily for shooting flower arrangements against white backgrounds. Quality and focus are the major concerns here as most of the work will be closeup/macro. A good zoom lens and SLR are a plus for general purpose shooting. What camera(s) would you recommend in the under $600 price range?

A. I recommend to anyone seriously contemplating the purchase of a new digital SLR camera to consider these two primary questions:
1. How much money do you have to spend???? $500.? $800.? $1,500.?
2. What level of photography do you aspire to "progress to" in the coming years ? (i.e. basic beginner, intermediate, or professional/business use).
For most beginners to intermediates I usually suggest one of these two manufacturers: Canon vs Nikon

1. Canon EOS Rebel model XSi. (Also known as the Canon 450D in Britain) The "kit" package comes with an 18-55mm zoom lens. The camera has pop-up flash, 12.2 Megapixels, and shutter speeds up to 1/4000th, 100-1,600 ISO sensitivity, 7 auto exposure Scene modes, PLUS Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Programmed Exposure Modes and Manual. It also has a 3 inch LCD screen, 3.5 frames continuous per second max., 9 point AF system, Live View Functioning and the ability to record photos in 3, 6 or 12 Megapixels PLUS numerous other great features found only on more expensive cameras. Wal-Mart is also selling them now for about $799. Sam's Club also has them for $729. I also think that Amazon dot com has them for around $650.

I bought one of these 6 months ago and use it as my "back up" camera. I absolutely love it. I have gotten some fantastic photos with it and cannot praise it enough. I routinely enlarge my photos to make 8x10's and 11x14 size enlargements with no noticeable distortion or loss of detail in the pictures.

2. Nikon D-90: If you prefer to use Nikon equipment I strongly recommend the Nikon D-90 which has 12.3 Megapixels, 3 inch monitor with Live View, 200-3,200 ISO sensitivity, 11 point AF system with Face Priority, 4.5 frames per second in continuous mode, 5 advanced Scene modes for auto exposure plus Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Programmed Auto plus Manual.

You might also consider the Nikon D-40 ($499) kit that comes with the 18-55mm lens. Another great choice is the Nikon D-60 kit ($649) which also comes with the 18-55mm lens. All of these Nikon's can be found at Best Buy or Amazon dot com for a very low price.

These selections are probably the best choices for any beginner to intermediate skill level, offering the most lenses and other accessories, dealers and places to purchase. Both manufacturers have a good selection of macro lenses, which is just what you need for taking close up photos of flowers.

I strongly recommend that ALL beginners buy a good book on digital photography AND take a class or two from a Vocational school or Community Education Center in your area.
You can learn more about the technical specifications of each of these two cameras at these websites:

Any practical way to connect a cable TV box to LCD monitor?

Q. I have an Explorer 4200 cable TV box with RCA jacks, RF coax and an S-video port, and a Gateway 900W LCD computer monitor with both DVI and VGA ports. Is there any way of connecting the cable box to the monitor with simple cables, or will it require an expensive converter of some kind?

A. Just call your cable TV company and ask for a digital HD cable box.

Most cable companies like Time Warner, Comcast, Cox, Cablevision, etc. all offer free upgrades to an HD cable box.

These digital HD cable boxes usually have either a DVI or HDMI output port, which you can connect to any HDCP-compliant LCD Monitor. (Yes, DVI is compatible with HDMI). This works most of the time.

If by some chance this doesn't work, then start thinking about spending money for a converter or something.

Hope this helps.

How many watts of power will I need for my gaming computer?

Q. This summer I plan on building my own gaming PC and assembling it at home because it is cheaper and I like to customize things myself. It is an 850 dollar computer but the specs are exceptional. For the motherboard and processor, I am following a YouTube tutorial. In the YouTube video it says only 500 watts of power are needed, but in the comment section somebody (who was picked for best answer) claims that you actually need at least 630. I am planning on getting a 750 watt battery anyways, but if I don't need to, I'll try and get something cheaper. So how much power will I need based on this setup:

A. 500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx#2

Thus, for a system with a single HD7850, a good branded 600W PSU is the ideal one to get and since your mobo does not support crossfire, then that 750W is too much for that build since Xfire is already not possible.

BTW, for Xfire, amd recommends 600W minimum, thus 700W is the ideal one to have (just an added info).

What's the best way to clean an LCD monitor?

Q. My LG LCD monitor is looking kind of dirty. How do I clean it without damaging it?

A. You can use a clean soft lint free cloth (microfiber is great) dry (for simple dust & fingerprints) or dampened with warm or cold water (preferrably distilled, or at least clean water like bottled water), or it is also acceptable to use a mixture of 50% alcohol with 50% cool water (anything else can damage the surface), and follow up with a clean soft lint free cloth to dry. Do not use paper towels or tissues if possible as they can scratch the surface. Be careful not to apply too much pressure on the surface.

I normally use just clean tap water (though if you have hard water (water w/high mineral content) you should use distilled or deionized water) on a soft cloth and dry with soft cloth - works great.

Below I've included a couple of good websites that cover this.

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10166_7-6209355-1.html
http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/11/wipe-clean-lcd-screen-laptop-monitor.html

A microfiber cloth usually works well for dust, fingerprints, etc., but if there are little water type spots on it or stuff that doesn't come off with a microfiber cloth you can take a soft cloth dampened with water and wipe the screen well then dry it off with another soft cloth or the microfiber cloth. If there is some ink or something else that the water doesn't touch, I've heard people use standard wipes, but I'd say go to a store that sells computer supplies and get some special monitor wipes for that purpose. Don't use any glass cleaner or other general household cleaners as they will probably damage the surface.

Best of luck.

What is the difference between a plasma and LCD TV?

Q. What is the difference between a plasma and LCD TV? I see advertized on their website, a Vizio 42 inch plasma TV, for $650, including free shipping. Someone told me the reason why LCD is preferable to plasma, but I forgot what it was.

A. TV Size

TV size matters first and foremost. If you look through various consumer and guru guides you will see that its essentially a consensus that you need not worry about high end features unless you are going to break 40" and more so 50". The reason being is that you can not see the advantages of those features in smaller sets. But being that you're looking at 42", an advanced feature/option, like Plasma, makes sense.

LCD

LCDs inherently suffer problems with motion playback. They suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with the 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates. This feature helps out a lot, but is not 100%. And you are expected to pay a price premium for this add-on.

CCFL LCDs have muted colors, grey blacks, and so-so contrast. This is compensated for with the modern LED LCD. The LED backlight provides a massive jump in quality in regard to those 3 things. It brings it to a near Plasma/CRT/DLP level.

But in smaller sets, LCDs are the go to choice. So for the time being they will certainly still fill an important need there. And there also offer a certain sense of familiarity for many, as LCD computer monitors have been the norm for so long now.

Plasma

Plasmas are inherently near instantaneous in their refresh rate. They are flawless in motion playback. While you might see some tagged with 480Hz or 600Hz sub-field motion drives, this is not a refresh rate. Its more so marketing to trick consumers (because of LCD's refresh rates). But in reality the technology just works quite differently (its more like your old CRT/tube set).

Plasmas inherently deliver vivid color, true blacks, and deep contrast. They do this right out of the box. They are a better overall image. And so you get a better image and perfect motion playback without having to pay anything extra.

Plasmas were not always this good a choice though, they have improved greatly over the years. But because of those past problems they do currently suffer from many myths and misconceptions. The main ones being that they suffer from burn-in, they are more expensive, they have shorter life spans, and they are energy hogs.

Modern Plasmas do not suffer from burn-in. After they are conditioned, you would have to actually work hard to accomplish a burn-in. To condition a new set all you need to do is keep the brightness and contrast turned way down for the first 100-200 hours of use. After that optimize and enjoy.

Plasmas are not more expensive than LCD rivals anymore. Any especially with LCDs needing high end features like 120Hz and LED backlights to compete. Those features often make LCD far more expensive to buy.

Plasmas do not have shorter life spans. The reputable brands will deliver models that are rated to 60,000 - 100,000 hours. That basically means that in 10 years time, at 8 hours a day, 365 days a year, you would only really see at most about a 10% loss in brightness. So the set is likely well useable for beyond 10 years.

Current Plasma models are now energy star certified. This means no more being power hogs against LCDs. They can match LCDs in this regard. But every model is different. There are some LCDs that still perform better, and there are some LCDs that perform much worse. It changes ever year as new models come out.

Brands

Though for Plasma I would recommend looking at Panasonic or Samsung before Vizio. Look at Best Buy right now for some sales on 42" Plasma TVs from those better brands. Vizio doesn't really have the reputation of being an elite Plasma TV manufacturer.

The Samsung PN42B450B1D is on sale right now for only $680. The Panasonic TC-P42X1 is on sale for $700. That's two 42" Plasmas from top tier manufacturers, still within the same price range.

Does the lcd Acer X203Wbd come with a dvi cable?
Q. Hello.....I am going to be buying my first lcd monitor and have narrowed my decision to the Acer X203Wbd. If you own it what do you think about it? Does it come with a DVI cable? Please tell me your exprience with it good and bad. Also, what would you recommend to protect the screen. It is an good investment and my first LCD, so of coarse i'm going to protect the screen =) Thank you

A. Sorry to say that my (subjective) opinion is Acer, AOC & Westinghouse LCDs are the lower end of the larger LCD monitors and sell at retail stores from would you believe like $100 to $160 and whether the LCD comes with DVI cable or not shouldn't matter too much in your decision bec price of DVI cable is really small and in fact Did you also check if the video card on your PC has DVI port bec older or less expensive computers do not DVI port and you might have to buy new video card...

I have the superexpensive $500 to $600 24" Dell Ultrasharp LCD sitting on my desk at work that has the adjustable sturdy stand and USBs. Our Agency tends to overkill bec we soon will all workers will be also getting new Dell Latitude Notebook PCs with docking stations as well.

At home I went out & bought a 22" Dell LCD monitor for my new Dell XPS Studio XMT 435 that 6GB DDR3 memory and a 512MB ATI video card and surprisingly the pic is even clearer and better than at my pic at work...implying that a good LCD monitor also needs a good video card. Also I would not worry too much about protecting screen bec I also did same TLC on an expensive Dell Notebook PC with high gloss screen but protective screen looked terrible that I sent back for refund. On the other hand, our Agency bought $150 3M glare protectors for each of the 24" Dell Ultrasharp LCDs and personally I think was a waste/overkill...bec simple water and microfiber cloth keeps good LCD monitor sparkling like new condition...

Bottomline, what I like about the Dell LCD monitors is their sturdier stand but we also have other Dell/Sony desktop PCs at home and recently bought a highly rated 22" LG Flatron LCD on sale at Best Buy from $289 to $189 plus tax. FYI there are so many LCD monitors on the market and the prices for 22" LCD monitors are very competitive that soon it will be like 1080p HDTVs <= we now have 2 and personally I wouldn't recommend going overboard bec technology is rapidly coming out with new models.

Hope the Above Info Helps!

What is the Windows PC monitor equivalent to Apple Mac monitor?

Q. What is the Windows PC monitor equivalent to the Apple Mac monitor?
I'm not talking about programs or software, I'm talking about the actual hardware monitor.

A. Hi Melissa, hope sincerely you are fine.

If you are not talking about software, then certainly you mean the LCD technology behind! The LCD Panel inside iMacs are manufactured by LG, they are made in China and only assembled in California by Apple. For example the 27" LCD in iMac have the following specs: LED-backlit glossy widescreen TFT active-matrix liquid crystal display with IPS technology,
Resolution: 2560 by 1440 pixels,
Typical brightness: 375 cd/m2,
It can be attached to a wall mount, articulating arm, or other VESA-compliant mounting solution using the optional VESA Mount Adapter Kit. Technically speaking, it is really hard to get an equivalent Monitor using this LCD technology in the market presently. I don't find any monitor competing with the Apple LCD technology.

As for the Apple Cinema Display 27" (i.e monitor only) the following can be noted:
27-inch (diagonal viewable image size) thin film transistor (TFT) active-matrix liquid crystal display with in-plane switching (IPS).

Supported resolutions: 2560 by 1440 pixels, 1920 by 1080 pixels, 1280 by 720 pixels
Colors (maximum): 16.7 million
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Viewing angle: 178° horizontal; 178° vertical
Brightness (typical): 375 cd/m2
Contrast ratio (typical): 1000:1
Response time (typical): 12 ms

To get the equivalent for this is really really hard although not impossible. According to my experience, I haven't seen another display equivalent to the Apple Cinema Display. That said, the Apple Cinema Display has it's disadvantages as well for eg it uses a Mini Display Port!

I know that i haven't answer your question by naming to you the exact equivalent monitor but I say that I haven't found anything matching the Apple Cinema Display yet. If you happen to get one that can match Apple's, please do let me know.

I hope that I have been of some help while sharing my experience to you Melissa. Wish you good luck. All the best.

What is the minimum requirement to play 3D games with a laptop?
Q. 1. My GPU supports 3D gaming
2. I'm not sure if my laptop's display is suitable (LCD LED-backlit)
3. Which type of glasses should i get?
4. Crysis 2 3D

A. 1. That's a damn fine start

2. Probably doesn't matter as you can get away with sterographing images

3. Get a pack of any brand 3D glasses made by companies that make 3D TVs

4. I'm pretty sure you're good

As far as I know, all you need is for your video card to be able to output in 3D and the game to be configured for it. There shouldn't be much else you need.

EDIT: You need a 120Hz monitor, but you can still try with a regular 60Hz and give it a shot

How many of you use Google's new power saving search engine Blackle?
Q. Will power really be saved to a considerable amount if we use black wallpapers and backgrounds?

A. Blackle is a non-profit website powered by Google Custom Search, which aims to save energy by displaying a black background color for search result.
Concept

The concept behind Blackle is that computer monitors can be made to consume less energy by displaying darker colors. Blackle is based on a study which tested a variety of CRT and LCD monitors.[2][3]

This concept was first brought to the attention of Heap Media by a blog post, which estimated that Blackle could save 750.0 megawatt-hours a year by utilizing it for CRT screens.[4][1] The homepage of Blackle provides a count of the number of megawatt-hours that have supposedly been saved by enabling this concept.

Applause

The creators of Blackle have been applauded for abundunce of clarity regarding the type, size and manufacturer of monitor that the power usage claims refer to. Darren Yates, a technology journalist who reviews computer hardware, tested 4 CRT monitors and 23 LCD monitors, and found that the CRT monitors did use more energy displaying a white screen but less than the calculations made by the blog post that inspired Blackle.[citation needed] The LCD monitors tested showed slightly less power use displaying a white screen in the majority of cases, although most of the larger (24-inch) monitors did use slightly less power displaying a black screen.
