I just bought an xbox 360 arcade,what components will i need to play hi-def gaming on my 24 asus lcd monitor?

A. Yea I bought one bc I was short on cash and you can basically turn it into an elite i bought the 120gig hard drive and HDMI cable. You'll just need to get an HDMI cable for it from a store like Walmart or bestbuy. Unless the monitor doesnt have the correct hook up then more than likely you'll need an S-video cable or a converter.

Q. Im thinking about buying a xbox, but I have no money for a TV.
I need to use my PC monitor.

My monitor has 1 DVI-D port and 1 VGA port
My graphic card is an ATI radeaon 4870(It has 2 DVI)

Im planning on buy the ARCADE version(I have no idea what kind of connector is has)

Can I plug it to my computers monitor?
If so, how do I so?
Will the picture of my monitor going to be ugly or very good?

A. The arcade only comes with the standard component cables (Yellow, Red, White.) So you wouldn't be able to connect it off the bat to your monitor.

You would need to buy the VGA cable. Which, unless you have a 30" plus monitor, then you wont really notice a difference in quality of picture from DVI. As VGA is capable of 720p and 1080i. It's just that the cable is an analog format so the signal is converted from digital, to analog and back to digital, which does degrade the quality a bit. Though to a normal eye, it's only noticeable on a larger screen.

I used this cable for a while when I used a 25" LCD for both a secondary computer monitor and for my xbox. Worked great and the picture quality was great.

Though, unless your monitor has speakers you wont have any sound.
If you have an external speaker system, then you need to run the red and white audio cables from the VGA adapter to it.

Alternatively if you have an line-in jack on your computer and a compatible audio card, then you can buy an RCA to 3.5mm converter that will take those red and white audio cables and make it usable to a standard headphone jack.

Where can I find a large 4:3 lcd monitor?

Q. I am building an arcade cabinet and need a 4:3 monitor for the screen. i have 23 1/2 inches across to fill so i would like to find a 24 inch.

A. The biggest 4:3 LCD monitor I know of are the 20-inch models. Those have a native resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.

Also, keep in mind that these monitors are measured in diagonals... If your cabinet is 23.5 inches across, you will need something on the order of a 26"-diagonal monitor to fill that space.

Q. What i did was took an old arcade cabinet and gutted it. I want to put a playstation with a tv inside of it. Problem is all new tvs are 16:9. I need an lcd tv thats 4:3 since the arcade machine used to have a tube television in it. Can anyone help?

A. No new 4:3 LCDs are being made anymore, you'll have to look on the used market. Best option is to get the largest 4:3 or 5:4 LCD monitor you can find, which will probably be about 19 inches or so. But be ready to be disappointed by the picture quality. Arcade games are intended for use with a high-contrast CRT monitor.

How can I change the resolution on the mame emulator?

Q. It seems that the default resolution for the emulator is a little blurry. I tried messing the options but didn't find anything that would let me make the picture more pixelated/grainy. Anyone find anything that I may have looked over? Oh, I am using a lcd moniter.

A. 1 are you using a video card?
2 are you speaking all games in general or specific games?
3 what size monitor are you using?

OKay generally you might change the monitor res or the videocards res. In a lot of the older games it has to do with the video freq. You need to also remember that MAME is an emulator and could be combining backgrounds, foregrounds and the game. (Bezels).

A. Try to locate local assembler in Peth area. Like BABA computers on Tilak road. Its near Vijay Talkies.
One good shop is Grace computers which in Bhosle-Shinde Arcade near Deccan theatre.
Also try LG's showroom at Ghole Patil road.
I would recommend LCD moniters by BenQ. The quality is good and its cheap too.
Don't go for CRT monitors.

What are the dangers of operating CRT monitors at low temperatures?

Q. I am getting an arcade cabinet made in 2002 with a 27" CRT monitor inside it. I have to keep it in my garage which is uninsulated. I am investigating potential winter use, but have heard that CRTs and cold weather do not get along.

What is the lowest operating temperature for a CRT monitor? What happens if you run it below this temperature?

A. CRT monitors are not that affected by cold. Condensation would only happen if you took a cold object, like a monitor, from the cold (your garage) into a warm environment (the house) where the humidity in the air would then condense on the cold surfaces. Otherwise condensation is not a concern.

CRT's will take a little bit to warm up, as they use heaters in the tubes to generate enough heat to produce the electrons, but otherwise they will work just fine.

Now LCD's and cold weather can be an issue, as they would become slow to respond and potentially could freeze and break if cold enough, due to the liquid crystals inside reacting with the cold, but I've not had one break on me yet with temps down below zero.
