difference B/W LCD monitor & LCD tv?

Q. i want to buy lcd (max 22") for watching movies as i currently see on my CRT monitor.MY question is what is best way of getting good picture quality LCD or LCD monitor ?

A. Well, and LCD "monitor" will require a TV tuner to receive a
picture. An LCD TV has a built-in TV tuner so you won't need
any outboard tuner (i.e. a stand-alone television).

My choice for best LCD picture is from Sony. I believe they
even have a 23" HDTV. A bit more expensive, but if you
appreciate a great picture, it is worth the extra investment.
Others to consider include Sharp and Panasonic for a 22".

LCD Monitor vs LCD TV ?
Q. I'm buying the display screen for my ps3 but I don't know which is better and what are the differences ?
Price is not major factor, also are monitors usually smaller than TVs ?

A. A video monitor just lacks a tuner to connect an antenna to to watch TV direct.

A computer monitor lacks normal A/V in, remote control, and sometimes even speakers/audio.

tv tuner for lcd monitor?

Q. where can i get a cheap tv tuner box example link :
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2707960&CatId=1427

i have a lcd computer screen laying around and i wanna turn it into a tv sience i dont use desktop pc anymore, please links to stores electronic stores or online websites for cheap but working tv tuner boxes with remote any help at all would be apreciated or if there is any other way to connect with out tuner box any tricks or connections any info welcomed

one problem my screen doesnt have speakers so the idea of dvd/vcr combo doesnt help becouse there is no way to connect speakers to it........

A. The best way is to just go out and get a DVD/VCR combo box. It has a tuner in it. You will also need a cable that goes from the S-video or VGA outputs on the back of the VCR to the monitor cable.

This is what I did, and I like it. Instead of just a tuner, I also have DVD/VCR capability.

External TV Tuner CRT Monitor?
Q. I'm aware on how to connect a standard VGA monitor to an external TV tuner - but I've only heard of it being done on LCD monitors - will a CRT monitor work as well. And will pictuer quality be and different than a CRT TV?
I specificaly said EXTERNAL TV TUNER - the PC is not in the equation
Ok here it is - straight out. I have a CRT flatscreen monitor with a cable to connect to a VGA input - I've seen external TV tuners with VGA inputs that you can connect directly to a cable line - thats what I plan on doing.

A. are you talking about a TV tuner on a PC. as in an internal card or USB adapter? what you would do in that situation is hook the monitor up to the computer and watch TV on it.
Please be more specific, give some details of your current or future configuration.

WELL external means it is connected to something. what you are talking about is a set top box.
if your device has a DVI or HDMI port then it is possible to connect that to a VGA connector. but if you only have S-video or RCA then you are going to have to find some wiring schematics cause yous gonna be soldering. the adapter from DVI to VGA would be the most economical and quick route to go. if you told me the model # and brand of the device you are hooking up i could give you are more definitive answer on how to do it.

Is there a TV cable to WUXGA or DVI converter that supports HDTV?

Q. I am looking for a TV tuner to use with this monitor: Sony SDM-P234W 23 inch LCD Monitor that supports HDTV. The monitor's video inputs are VGA or DVI. Is there any tuner that does this? Thanks!

A. Hiya Marcellus,

Yeah, there are many stand alone HD tuners that will give you HDTV over DVI. Here is one that looks good and priced right: http://www.epvision.com/index.htm

That type of unit would do the trick unless you are referring to a tuner that is installed in your PC and will receive HDTV.

Here is a link to Newegg PC TV tuners (4 pages) : http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000380047%201148510222&page=1&bop=And

How can i make my LCD Computer monitor a TV?

Q. I just bought a HP 19 inch Widescreen Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor and i use it to play on my PS3 with a HDMI to DVI converter. I was wondering if i could hook up the monitor to a standard tv cable without a tv tuner. Please help?????????????????????????????????????

A. You might be able to, if you have a digital HD cable box. Digital HD cable boxes usually have either a DVI or HDMI output, and you should be able to hook it up in the same fashion as you did your PS3.

If you don't have a digital HD cable box, call your local cable TV service provider and ask for one.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Should I get an LCD monitor without a tv tuner or an LCD TV with tuner?

Q. Should I get an LCD monitor without a tv tuner or an LCD TV with tuner? I'm thinking about getting a 30-32" screen for my computer that I will use a lot (and mostly for computing purposes and probably watching Blu-Ray and Netflix on). It seems like LCD monitors without tuners that are 30" are significantly more expensive than LCD TV's. Why is that?

Which should I get?

A. I would suggest getting one without, and buying a tuner for your computer. Only 70 bucks at best buy and you can get a even better monitor without the tuner. It sounds like you are getting a TV that doubles as a Computer Monitor which in most cases is not good. A true monitor will give you the best quality compared to a tv with Monitor Capabilities. Also you can hook up your Cable to the TV tuner and DVR shows, and save yourself some money but not having a dvr from the cable company if you have one already. Go Single Monitor Only, you will be much happier, and buy the tuner separate. Link below for Tuner Cost. I am sure there are cheaper out there but this is the one I use and it has been great.

What is an Audio In port on a computer monitor used for?
Q. I have an Acer 19" V193w LCD monitor. I'm thinking of converting it to a television which works with a conventional cable rather than a tv tuner box thingy.

I've been going through a couple of tutorials and I'm all set, except I have the problem of audio output from the monitor. I have discovered, however, an audio in port on the monitor's backside. What the heck is an audio 'in' port? What does it do?

A. the monitor has built in speakers

Does HDMI have the ability to transmit cable TV channels from a tuner or just a single video feed?

Q. I have a DVD recorder that has HDMI output. If I buy a HDMI to DVI adapter can I hook up my DVD recorder to an LCD monitor and be able to use the cable TV tuner or will the HDMI output only send the DVD playback feed.
Hi. Can't figure out how to enter a "reply" on the question so I'll just respond here (yes...it is my first time using Yahoo answers ;) ).

Thanks for the replies guys. Good to hear HDMI is just another output method like coaxial etc.

To clear up the confusion there's just two devices here, a stand alone DVD recorder from Lite-on with an analog TV tuner and HDMI output, and a monitor with a DVI input.

The monitor does have built in speakers but if the audio doesn't travel through the HDMI to DVI adaptor (I'm ordering it from monoprice now that I know it'll work) I'll just use the RCA audio out on the DVD recorder to a mini-system.

Thanks again for the replies!

A. HDMI is just a "bus"; it does not care what goes through.
Yes, you should be able to view both DVD playback and your TV tuner input through HDMI.

What is the difference between LCD TV and LCD monitor?
Q. I want to purchase a LCD TV/LCD Monitor for my PC. Which should I purchase - LCD TV or LCD monitor. Is LCD TV harmful for eyes as compared to LCD Monitor? Which is the best one LCD TV or LCD Monitor?

A. A LCD MONITOR does not have a built in tuner...

That's the ONLY difference between the same model...

They are great if you know you'll be connected to Satellite or Cable and using their HD Set top boxes for the next 10 - 15 years.

If you're unsure, get the LCD TV.
If it was harmful to the eyes, do you think they would be allowed to sell it?

What is the difference between an LCD Monitor and an LCD TV?

Q. Why are LCD Monitors cheaper than LCD TVs? Both receive and process digital information so why the big price difference? Is it the resolution and clarity? Or is it just a rip off the industry doesn't want you to know about?

A. Those LCD panel for Monitor use is design main for text display. LCD display panel for tv use is design for image/picture. is not the same panel, some technical difference ! A low end standard LCD monitor price can be cheap, but a good monitor should be cost more than LCD tv ( compare to same size screen ). For TV..LCD display + tuner RF > IF> colour decode > Audio RF>IF> ..... Total many other parts and circuit design . Monitor need good Resolution LCD panel + VIDEOS display circuit , because of resolution ,LCD Display panel price always high,or even very high ! ( unless ,some cheap monitor use bad resolution panel ). maybe make is more sample for this... F1 engine and WRX sport saloon car engine, is engine, but difference design because of difference NEED !
