Best Setup for 3 monitor display + TV mount (furniture, brackets, etc).?

Q. I am redoing my office/gaming/recording (YouTube) setup.

I need a desk, preferably L-Shape with room for 3 monitors and a tower PC as well as at least 1 laptop and some external HD's (the book-sized WD ones).

The desk needs to have space below for shelving that I can place my consoles on (xbox 1, ps4, ps3, etc) as well as an HDMI switch (minimal space) and some other wiring.

I am looking at Ergotech's Triple Horizontal LCD Monitor Arm Desk Stand and think it will do the job of holding my 3 24" monitors.

I would also like to mount a 32"-40" TV above the monitors on my wall (or on a stand if theres a 3 wide by 2 tall in the middle column bracket) so I can run cable/satellite and watch my shows while editing.

Any tips on designing this?

I need a desk first, and was thinking a corner one with the 3 monitors centered on the L bend (90* angle part) so I have room to the left for my laptop and to the right for my tower. As for the TV, not sure how to mount it onto the corner or how well that would work but am open to suggestions.

I prefer amazon for most of my buying, but will look at IKEA and other places as well.

The monitor holder you got there sounds good.
And I would get more that 1 desk If i was you, just so it helps space everything out, so maybe get an L shape, then get a small normal desk if you have room for it. So you could have the monitors, PC and laptop on the L shape desk (So the PC and monitors on the long part, then the laptop on the bottom of the L, which is hopefully the small part) then use another desk to put your Xbox and PS's on, and save up for another monitor.

If your monitor says in the user manual that it is VESA standard fitments to a wall bracket then you simply buy a VESA compatible bracket and this will mean the screw holes should align on both the tv and bracket. As its only a small 19 incher, buy a flat to wall bracket with small tilt adjustment up/down in the 17=22 inch bracket range, The fixings should come in the bag with the new bracket.

Using Monitor filter or change mine to LCD monitor could be better for my eyes?

A. You're still using a CRT?

If your CRT isn't capable of refresh rates at least above 76hz, then you should replace it.

LCD doesn't have that same refresh problem, so there won't be any flickering. It's mainly this flickering that causes eyestrain.

LCD also has a much brighter, crisper picture when sitting close, and isn't nearly as susceptible to glare because the outer screen of a LCD isn't made from glass, like CRT is.

If your eyes are still giving you problems and you wear glasses, many eyeglass places can make glasses that use a special coating that is supposed to help reduce eyestrain when using a computer.

Otherwise, every 15 minutes, you should look away from the screen and try focusing on an object that's far away (further than your arm's length at least) for a few seconds. This will help exercise your eye muscles and keep them from getting tired from just focusing at one length for so long.

new canon rebel xsi- lcd monitor?

Q. i just got my canon rebel xsi- and i am having a hard time trying to figure out something super simple. how can i turn on the lcd monitor to show what i am shooting without having to look through the viewfinder eyepiece? thanks in advance!

A. I don't have the XSi, but I often times shoot with the XS and the way you do it on the XS is you first need to enable it in the menu, it should be there somewhere...

after that you just press the SET button (the one in the middle of the 4-way pad) and up comes live-view...

I imagine its about the same thing on the XSi since its pretty much the same camera...

btw Petra... what makes you say that live-view produces blurry photos? just cause you don't have enough strength to hold the camera, does not make live-view unusable for others... me personally I seem to get better shots with live-view... it just seems like a more natural position for my arms than extending them all the way to my face... but maybe it's cause I'm a 23-yr old male who's in shape... there is no practical reasoning to your empty claim... LV produces the same photos as viewfinder... most people are just too old or weak to hold onto the camera properly...

The LCD Panel inside iMacs are manufactured by LG, they are made in China and only assembled in California by Apple. For example the 27" LCD in iMac have the following specs: LED-backlit glossy widescreen TFT active-matrix liquid crystal display with IPS technology,
Resolution: 2560 by 1440 pixels,
Typical brightness: 375 cd/m2,
It can be attached to a wall mount, articulating arm, or other VESA-compliant mounting solution using the optional VESA Mount Adapter Kit. Technically speaking, it is really hard to get an equivalent Monitor using this LCD technology in the market presently. I don't find any monitor competing with the Apple LCD technology.

As for the Apple Cinema Display 27" (i.e monitor only) the following can be noted:
27-inch (diagonal viewable image size) thin film transistor (TFT) active-matrix liquid crystal display with in-plane switching (IPS).

Supported resolutions: 2560 by 1440 pixels, 1920 by 1080 pixels, 1280 by 720 pixels

To get the equivalent for this is really really hard although not impossible. According to my experience, I haven't seen another display equivalent to the Apple Cinema Display. That said, the Apple Cinema Display has it's disadvantages as well for eg it uses a Mini Display Port!

I know that i haven't answer your question by naming to you the exact equivalent monitor but I say that I haven't found anything matching the Apple Cinema Display yet. If you happen to get one that can match Apple's, please do let me know.

You can hold a P&S at arm's length in the typical snapshooter's position (and that is such a bad technique), but thankfully you can't do that for very long with a heavy DSLR & lens combo.
Live view has its uses occasionally , for instance for macro shots, but it isn't instant like the display on a P&S, it sort of lags, and just doesn't feel right.
Live View is not meant to replace the view finder, a serious photographer uses the view finder because it is vastly superior, full stop.
I was excited about my first DSLR with live view, but very quickly gave up on it again - the view finder is so much better.

Your camera may be basic, but you have a perfectly wonderful learning tool - use it to your advantage.

A. Hi,

The Sony Alpha series has this. Canon and Nikon need to flip the mirror up to refocus, so the screen goes blank for a short time. Sony uses a second sensor to focus - so you can view all the time.

You should ask yourself why you want this though. Live view is good for composition and getting horizons horizontal, but DSLR's are heavy, and holding it to your eye/face makes sure it is steady. That's why so many amateur videos look as if they were made by a drunk - it is just too difficult to hold at arms length.

A. The highest-resolution monitor currently available in the retail market would be the WQXGA monitors like the 30" Apple Cinema Display, Dell 3008WFP, HP LP3065, etc. These are 30" LCD panels with 2560x1600 resolution, and requires dual-link DVI. These display 4 megapixels.

There are higher-resolution monitors out there, but they need to be custom-ordered from companies like Eizo, Barco, ITech, Planar, etc., and they cost an arm and a leg and your firstborn.
