Just got hd lcd monitor want to use it as tv.?

Q. Hey lol first off ill start by saying im not very technical when it comes to this stuff, but basically my buddy justbought a brand new hd tv (huge) for his ps3 and well as just tv in general, well on the road he used a westing house l2410nm lcd monitor for his ps3, but since he got that he gave it to me. I don't want to use it as just a ps3 hook up, but also would like to use it as my general purpose tv. Somone told me get tv tuner and somone said get hd cable box... not quite sure what each is and their price or how i use them could anyone point me in the right direction and elaborate more on what i need to do. ( i have no intentions of using the monitor for my comp cause i have a laptop. Thanks.

A. I Checked out your monitor at the manufacturers website, and I looked at all the ports it has. I hate to have to put anyone down, but the post on C Net tells you a way that works on all monitors, but it really difficult and requires a desktop computer. In your case you will need some sort of a conversion box if you do not have one. If you want HDTV, you will have to subscribe for HD service and the box comes with it. Below are all the ways you can have television:

Depending on how you get your television, there is a few ways you can hook it up.

If you have tivo or another DVR, or if you have a VCR or DVD recorder that you use to record TV, you can go ahead and set up your monitor without a box as mentioned in the end of this answer.

If you pay for your TV service you either have cable or satellite, you will need a set top box (a box with its own remote, in some cases the remote may also work for you TV), if you do not have one, you could call your service provider for one.

If you do not pay to watch tv, you either have an antenna, or cable provided by an apartment or office, If you have an antenna, you need to buy a digital converter box if you do not have one already. You will need to buy one if you have an antenna anyway because tv goes digital in June. If you have cable, ask the person who pays for it for a set top box.

Once you get a set top box, or a digital converter box, if you do not have one already, there are a couple of ways to hook it up:

The easiest way is to use a composite cable( It is made up of a yellow cable, a red cable, and a white cable, and almost everything is compatible with it) and just plug in each cable into the ports on your box and monitor.

If you want better image quality, you can use a component cable or an hdmi cable if the box has the ports for it. An HDMI cable has one plug, and the port is rectangular, with no screws, you just plug it in, A component cable has 5 plugs, Red, White, another Red, Green, and a blue one, one pair of red and white should be seperated, or have somthing different about it.

Gateway FPD1975W 19-inch HD LCD Monitor?
Q. it says it comes with 4 usb ports on the side. My question is what do you use those usb connectors for thanks

It is coming with the gateway computer i bought

A. It does come 4 USB ports but you use those ports for anything flash drives external drives and they are high speed also if it doesn't come with a cable high speed cable to connect the monitor to the computer it should take a printer USB cable so if you have you can use it or go to office depot and get one there.

which computer LCD monitors won't harm your eyes so you can stare at it for hours on end?

Q. I am looking for a LCD monitor for my computer so that I can do homework (mainly for using office applications) that won't strain my eyes. At my university those computer monitor are pretty kind to my eyes. Meaning I can stare at them for hours and hours before I feel any strain or hurt to my eyes. However it only takes around 45 minutes for my eyes to feel strained when starring at my LCD monitor, forcing me to take a break. Funny thing is that I don't usually feel a thing when I watch movies on it at home. What are some important things to consider when buying another monitor that 'would be kind to my eyes' and what is the maximum resolution for an LCD monitor that I should aim for so I can run my graphic card 'Nvidia 1792MB GTX 295' at it's full potential

A. most gamers i know stare at the monitor concentrating hard
instead of looking blink and look away now and again
get yourself a 24" or 26" as they are most likely going to be 1920 x 1080 or 1200
and have a nice size screen
LG ViewSonic samsung proview all do good monitors

How to secure my LCD monitor?
Q. At work, we're moving from offices to cubicles, and I'm worried that my flat screen monitor might get stolen. Here's why: There are still construction workers all over the place, and little to no security. Someone could walk out with it very easily. I bought a kensington lock for my computer... is there anything comparable out there that I could use to secure my monitor?

A. A lot of LCD monitors have a Kensington lock slot on the back.

Take a look over the covers to see if yours has one.

I am wanting to buy a 22" lcd monitor. Can you give me any useful information about one?

Q. Right now i have a Dell 17" lcd monitor and was wanting a 22" Dell lcd monitor.I only use my computer for about 3 hours a day.Can you give me the pros and cons to buy one or not to buy one.I'm not really a computer genius but i would like to know if i would really benifit from a larger monitor. Thanks

If it means anything i am using a Radeon x300 graphics.

A. you will have a much larger viewing area than a 17 inch, MUCH MUCH MUCH. you iell be able to fit more programs/windows on one screen. if it was me id go for it cuse i just like bigger monitors, and i was in ur position once (or a similar one) and i went for it and was very happy i did. but if you want to save your money, dont get one or wait for a good deal, like i got mine for $200 at bestbuy :). make sure it has at least a 5 ms response time, dvi and vga input, and anything above a 700:1 contrast ratio. and thats its not some cheap brand, get one made by someone like westinghouse, LG, samsung, etc.. not some office depot only brand.
p.s.
if you get this monitor gaming performance (if you game) will be greatly decreased, expecially with that graphics card.

How long do LCD monitors typically last?

Q. I bought an Acer X163W LCD monitor from wallmart for $99.99, and i was wondering ho long it will last in a 24/7 media environment. I've already had it on for 4 months 24/7 and don't notice anything changing with image quality and brightness.

A. Typically the backlight is rated 50,000 hours, so do the math to see how many years that is. 50,000/24/365 = 5.7 years. Multiply that by 3 if use averages 8 hrs/day. However, if other electronic components are overrated or substandard, or you physically fatigue a connector or break something, that may shorten its life.

Of all the laptops and LCD monitors/TV's at home or small office at work, I have only seen one failure. A 17" Dell LCD monitor failed at work, but not sure exactly what the issue was, maybe a fatigued VGA connector. At first it would fail to wake from standby unless I jiggled the cable. But eventually it was just a black screen with blinking green power LED (which was usually solid green when on or amber in standby). Same cable works fine with different monitor.

I have a PIII 500 laptop purchased Jan 2000 that still works. And I left it on 24/7 for a couple of years as a wireless terminal for a PC in my basement. Although, the display did go into standby when not in use. I have not fired it up much lately other than to get some data from it (dual boots Win98se and Linux).

What can you use to clean a lcd monitor screen without harming it??
Q. I just purchased a samsung lcd monitor screen and i need to know how to clean it the proper way

A. they have wipes at office depot and such especially for lcd
