How do I delete displays on my mac?

Q. I currently have my laptop and an extra lcd monitor, but have six more displays showing up in my display/arrangement preferences. How can i get rid of those unnecessary displays?

A. In Apple menu > System Preferences > Display, there's a button to Detect Displays. That "should" create an accurate list of the displays currently attached to your system.

If it doesn't, shutdown and disconnect all monitors then check the Display preferences again to see if it looks correct then reconnect the LCD monitor and click Detect Displays.

If there's still an issue, you should do some generic troubleshooting steps to rule them out such as running Software Update and applying all patches, run Disk Utility to fix perms and verify your drive, reset PRAM and SMC, etc (see google for specific steps if you need them). The logic being if the system is confused about the number of displays then something is screwed up at a lower level so best to try the standard troubleshooting steps to see if they help or at least rule them out.

How do I use dual monitors with the new mac pro?
Q. I've never used a mac before, and I'm nowhere near a store so before I spend 3k on the new Mac Pro, I just want to make sure I can run dual monitors!

I have two Dell LCD monitors, both have a DVI port.

Can I plug both monitors into my Mac Pro, and have the resolution span both screens? Do I need some sort of special attachment to be able to do this?

Thank You.
