What is a good LCD monitor for doing some photo work (hobby not pro) Budget = $400?

Q. Looking for a monitor good for doing photo editing but not anything completely professional. In researching monitors, many mention the gaming, video, text capabilities but not photo. I just want something that will have good color accuracy so that if I print what I see it's fairly the same thing.

A. Wait, maybe your budget is actually $500? Isn't that what you said, $500?

HP LP2475w (24 inch H-IPS panel, 1920 x 1200), $507,

Are iMac 24" screens suitable for displaying accurate colours in print work?
Q. I've been using a CRT monitor (Sony Trinitron G520) for print purposes and was wondering if anyone would recommended the iMac screens for this line of work? Can the colour accuracy be trusted like my CRT? Many thanks.

A. Not really, CRT is still best for that, LCD hasn't finally caught up.

There are a couple of workarounds.
You can get a colour calibrator thingy, you stick it on your screen once a week (the colour depth drifts over time) and it will tune it back.
The other option is to get a colour swatch or chart and stick to that as your benchmark (that's what I do).
