How can I safely clean my LCD computer screen?

Q. I have a 20" Acer computer screen that has a bunch of little spots on it. I've cleaned it with Windex (sprayed onto a paper towel, don't worry) but the spots keep coming back. What are some good ways to clean it, or where can I pick up some wipes specifically designed to clean LCD monitors? Thanks in advance.

A. You can use cleaners that are used for glasses or camera lenses....

What is the best way to clean my comp monitor screen?
Q. I have a NEC flatscreen LCD monitor. It has greasy fingerprints on it. What is the best way to clean it without doing any damage to the screen?

A. Do NOT use:

Tissues - they will break up and leave fibers on the screen.

Paper towels - they are abrasive.

Dish detergent - this too is abrasive.

Use a soft cloth (cotton or microfiber) dampened with a little water (bottled water if you live in a hard water area) If you need a bit more cleaning power use a soft soap solution, such as a plain liquid hand soap.

Any sprays or wipes specifically meant to clean monitor screens or eyeglasses will work too. Just don't let any liquid run down the screen. Water and electronics do not mix well.

I have seen monitor screens totally trashed because they were cleaned with Windex and paper towels.
