I have a dell inspiron and cannot access my webcam?

Q. I used to be able to, but have not used my laptop in a couple months. Now I cannot access it; it's not even showing up in my control panel

A. Hi Jessica,

Try launching the Dell Webcam Central (Start > Programs > Dell Webcam Central) application and see if the webcam works. If application is missing or does not open, you may reinstall it from the link below:

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/Browse_For_Drivers/Monitors,%20Electronics%20&%20Peripherals/Monitors/Dell%20SX2210WFP%20Monitor/Drivers%20for%20OS%20Deployment/Application/Windows%207%2064-bit/2012-08-28%20-%20Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam%20SW%20RC1.1_%20R230103.exe

If the application opens and the webcam still does not work, check the bottom left corner of the Webcam Central window to check the status of webcam.

If it says no webcam detected, check if it is detected in the Device Manager. Steps to access the device manager are listed on the link below:

The webcam should be listed under imaging devices. While in Device Manager, you may also try uninstalling and reinstalling the USB Root Hubs. The steps are:

1. In Device Manager, click on > sign next to ‘USB Universal Bus Controllers’ to expand the category.
2. Right click on each USB Root Hub listed under USB Universal Bus Controllers and click on ‘Uninstall’.
3. Click on ‘Yes’ on the security warning.
4. Once all entries for USB Root Hubs have been removed, close the Device Manager and restart the system.

You may also try pinching the area near the webcam on the LCD to check for any loose connections. If it still does not work, you may have to get the webcam replaced.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Best answer, 10 points- Computers in the year 2012?
Q. How big will the monitors be, what specs, what's after Quad-Core, what's going to happen??

A. The only thing stopping the size of monitors is having the space to put them. My newest computer (3 months old) has an HDMI output so i could hook it up to my friend's 62" LCD tv if I wanted to.
as for computing speed.... 2012 is 30 months away, and computing speed is doubling every 12 to 18 months right now, so the AMD Quad Core 2.3 that I have right now, could be replaced with an AMD Quad Core 6.9 by then (thats for example purposes only, you'll never see a 6.9 quad core). Having said that I think that after quad cores you will see "dual Quad cores". The # of cores will almost certainly move in powers of 2 (i.e. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc). So instead of a 6.9 quad core I think you'll see something like a 3.0 Dual Quad Core. BTW the number of cores is basically meaningless, because you can always get a bigger motherboard :) If you really want one, you can get multi chip boards. These are usually seen in very large servers, etc
