What should I look for in an LCD monitor?

Q. I want to hook up an LCD monitor to my laptop. I do mainly Excel/Outlook work so I am more concerned about crisp, clear text than color matching. Which specifications should I focus on? Any recomendations on a specific make/model? I am looking for a 19" or 21" Widescreen for under $250.

A. Getting a monitor at 19 or 21, or even 22 inches is very doable for under $250. I don't agree with the previous answer, since you don't seem that interested in high-powered gaming. I work from home on an Viewsonic Q19WB 19" widescreen monitor. It has a 1440x900 resolution, 5ms latency time, 700:1 Contrast ratio. I scored it for $120 after a $20 rebate from Buy.com in December.

I do a lot of the same tasks as you where text clarity is of utmost importance. I actually split screen with Excel or Word and other programs to cross-reference and extract data from one side to the other, and this monitor does the trick for me.

There are good monitors that pop up all the time on deal sites like Slickdeals.net that I would highly suggest you monitor if you are really interested in purchasing a monitor. You could get a huge bang for your buck there and get the monitor that you desire. Good luck!

What is the best computer monitor I can buy for under $250?
Q. I'm getting a mac pro and doing some video editing and photoshop. I want a good clear monitor that will last and is under $250, and no smaller than 17".

Thanks!

A. LG 19" LCD with 2ms response time & thinnest profile of any LCD on the market ... gorgeous unit !
