Do I need a computer to watch TV on a LCD monitor?

Q. I'm planning to buy a LCD monitor for mainly to watch TV. Do i need a computer to watch tv with a TV tuner or can I just hook the cable straight to the monitor?

A. No you dont need a computer...but you will definitely need an External Tv Tuner Card...it costs about INR 1000 in india..Plus you will get a remote control with it...So u can use ur LCD Monitor as a normal television set..
and yes U can not directly hook the Cable with the Monitor

What kind of computer would you suggest? What brand is worth checking out?
Q. I am in the market for a new computer, given that the one I have now is over 7 yrs old. Grant it, it does what I want it to do and I can check my email, groups, play some games, etc. But I need alot more space than what I have plus a better processing speed and I will be shopping for a new computer later this year. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tend to play alot of online games and am also into games like The Sims. I also create game files for The Sims. I also collect pictures and edit banners. I'm definitely going to need a good computer but there are so many choices out there. I'm not sure which would make a good investment. I appreciate all replies in advance.

A. Remember, Microsoft writes software. Hundreds of dealers put machines together on which they hope to run Windows. Compatibility is hit or miss. In my experience, Sony put together a great machine but Compaq stinks. Dell has sold out placing all their tech support in India. Now they will begin selling their machines in Walmart. You have to be real cheap to get in Walmart. First of all I'm in favor of the portability of laptops. Buy a locking cable for when it leaves the house and get a full-sized keyboard and mouse for when it's IN the house. If you can swing it, get an external [LCD] monitor for home also. As with any computer, budget for an external hard drive for backing up. If you have to have Windows, go somewhere with good, local support like the Geek Squad at Best Buy. I bought two laptops with extended warranties there. Man, am I glad I did. The Compaq (2 yrs old) is always screwed up and the Sony (4 yrs old) bit the big one once. Plus you get a new battery for free every year, need it or not. All the Windows machines I've had since 3.1 required constant vigilance and maintenance and periodic OS reloading. If you really want a good experience, go Mac! Apple developes both hardware and software to work well together. Whatever you decide, get max RAM and 80 - 120 GB hard drive (minimum). Good luck!
