A. Monitor as in computer monitor? Or TV? Its best to go with a tv and not monitor (unless by monitor you mean a 40inch TV without a tuner) purely because of size. When playing for hours on a tiny monitor, you eyes will murder you.
Type. PS3 takes full advantage of 1080p so if you have the money this would be the Best. 120Hz is nice but not necessary. And make sure you get LCD, not plasma.
Size. Completely Dependant on the size of your room and how close your going to be. 40 inch looks real nice on the ps3, as does 52 although 52 can be a bit big sometimes.
Manufacturer. Assuming your getting an LCD TV, Sony, Samsung and SHARP make the best LCD pannels. I personally have a Sony and its a thing of beauty. Hope this helps

LCD monitor screen size?
Q. when a LCD monitor says 17" for screen size, is that its viewable screen size? (since in CRT monitors, the viewable screen size differs from the monitors' size)
A. the viewable size of a 17" LCD screen is 17", but on a 17" CRT the viewable size is about 15.5" to prevent from misunderstandings.
