How do you safely and effectively clean an LCD monitor?

Q. I know you should not clean and LCD monitor as you would an old TV or monitor. I just don't know for sure how to clean an LCD monitor.

A. Use a soft cloth (microfiber or cotton) dampened with water, or some soap solution (liquid hand soap)

It should be damp enough to actually wet the screen but not so wet that water will run down the screen.

If you have a more stubborn mark then you can try some rubbing alcohol on the same type of cloth.

The wipes sold for cleaning glasses or monitor screens also should be good.

Do not use:
paper towels - they are abrasive.
dish detergent - it has abrasive salts in it.
household cleaners - they can contain damaging chemicals.

How do I keep my LCD monitor from streaking when I clean it?
Q. Whenever I clean off my LCD monitor, it leaves streaks behind - not really visible, but noticeable when the monitor's off.

I currently use special wipes for it (LCD screen wipes that I bought from MicroCenter) and a soft cloth (it's an iMac; it comes with a cloth recommended for cleaning). Still streaks.

A. 1: Dry dust lightly first.
2: With the monitor off, spray water on a clean wipe (I'm not sure you need the special ones, but go with those if you have them).
3: Wipe off the monitor without pressing too hard.
4: Dry with a soft dry cloth.

If you still have streaks, repeat.
