Is it worth replacing a Broken Back light in an LCD monitor?

Q. Hi, I have a FP91G Benq LCD monitor and today, i think the backlight broke.
The power light of the screen comes on and you can see a very faint image when there is light shined onto the screen.
My question is, is it worth getting the back light replaced or would it be cheaper buying a new screen?

A. A backlight - no. It is integrated into the LCD panel. The cost of replacing a panel will be greater than a replacement monitor.

However, it is possible that your inverter card has gone. This is what provides power to the back light.

That could be worth fixing.

What happens when my LCD monitor gets a tear in it?
Q. My cat likes to chase my cursor, and I just got one of the flat screen LCD monitors instead of the glass panel monitor. Sadly I think one of his claws put a little tear in it. Its very small, hardly noticeable, but I was wondering what will happen to it if anything, and if it can be repaired? Thanks.

A. It may get worse as the plastic protective membrane has been torn, allowing air, cleaning agents etc into the screen.

Sorry to say you will have to replace the screen part of the monitor.

This may not be economic to do.

Either live with it, get it repaired or - Sob - Purchase a new Monitor.

The service agent will not treat this as a warranty issue.

Also consider replacing the cat, or use a "bad dog" background for your Windows display in future. Just joking.
