Q. Auto focus, manual focus, what else for under $200. Himself is about to go out & buy me one what features shall I tell him the camera should have? (No I can't go with him, it's a gift for me.)

But mostly ppl buy on the basis of Brand name, mega pixel and LCD monitor size..not good option..
Other factors are
-Good Flash Range.
-Speedy performance
-Quick Flash recharge Time
-Good indoor picture capability
I can recommend some cameras which have image rank 8 or 9 (out of 10).
