Q. I'm not a hardcore comp gamer but love me games like total war and things like that problem is very few work on my simple old computer I know the basic on building a new one but I don't understand all the names for computer parts. Also I can't afford to spend allot of money and I would like to beable to upgrade the computer too keep up with game requirements.

A. likewise, you didn't mentioned any budget which is the most impt factor in building a gaming PC, but oh well, I'll just give you this COMPLETE build that I think is affordable and is decent enough to let you play all games on mid settings and some on high settings:

Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32120 - $128

HITACHI HDS721050CLA362 (0F10381) 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - $80

Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - $60

XFX HD-677X-ZNLC Radeon HD 6770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - $110 ($95 after rebate)

ALTEC LANSING BXR1220 2.0 Speaker System - $18

Acer S200HLAbd Black 20" 5ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1) - $120 (1600x900 resolution)

Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 920-002950 Black 8 Function Keys USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard and Mouse - $27

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

TOTAL : $785 ($760 after rebate), this build is very decent, it can let you play ALL games on mid - high settings especially because the monitor has a resolution of 1600x900 only and not 1080p =P

BTW, these all came from newegg.
