ideas on fixing a flickering LCD monitor?
Q. I left my computer running while I went to make dinner and came back to the monitor flickering. It is like a strobe light almost where it will display for a second and then turn black for a second. I have tried replacing the cable connecting it to the computer as well as the power cable. I also used different connectors so its not the cable or the connectors causing the problem. any ideas on other things that might need replacing?

A. Hello,

If your monitor is several years old then I would say you have a power supply failing in the monitor. If your monitor fits into this age group then you may want to look at the web page below that talks about why monitor power supplies go out and what needs to be replaced to repair the units. Most monitors should be easily repairable.

Now the second thing, if your monitor has a red or pink tint to the image then you have a different problem. The red/pink tint and flickering is caused by the backlight florescent bulbs going out. they are just like the bulbs in the lights in an office just much thinner and smaller. When they start to fail the color changer from white to reddish pink. You can replace the bulbs but this is a much bigger task than most people want to tackle.

Remember before you start repairing anything check the warranty on the unit, some monitors have a 3 year warranty and could get fixed for free.
