I have a dell inspiron and cannot access my webcam?
Q. I used to be able to, but have not used my laptop in a couple months. Now I cannot access it; it's not even showing up in my control panel

A. Hi Jessica,

Try launching the Dell Webcam Central (Start > Programs > Dell Webcam Central) application and see if the webcam works. If application is missing or does not open, you may reinstall it from the link below:

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/Browse_For_Drivers/Monitors,%20Electronics%20&%20Peripherals/Monitors/Dell%20SX2210WFP%20Monitor/Drivers%20for%20OS%20Deployment/Application/Windows%207%2064-bit/2012-08-28%20-%20Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam%20SW%20RC1.1_%20R230103.exe

If the application opens and the webcam still does not work, check the bottom left corner of the Webcam Central window to check the status of webcam.

If it says no webcam detected, check if it is detected in the Device Manager. Steps to access the device manager are listed on the link below:

The webcam should be listed under imaging devices. While in Device Manager, you may also try uninstalling and reinstalling the USB Root Hubs. The steps are:

1. In Device Manager, click on > sign next to USB Universal Bus Controllers to expand the category.
2. Right click on each USB Root Hub listed under USB Universal Bus Controllers and click on Uninstall.
3. Click on Yes on the security warning.
4. Once all entries for USB Root Hubs have been removed, close the Device Manager and restart the system.

You may also try pinching the area near the webcam on the LCD to check for any loose connections. If it still does not work, you may have to get the webcam replaced.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
GauravS
