20" Apple Cinema Display (2003) vs 27" Samsung Widescreen LCD Monitor?

Q. I'm a photographer working on a 13" Macbook Pro, and I'm looking to buy a monitor so I can edit on a larger screen when at home. I have the option of spending $100 on an older (but working) Apple Cinema Display, or $500 on a new Samsung monitor. I'm just wondering if anyone has an answer as to which is better suited to my needs? I'm looking for image quality, value, etc. Price is not so much an issue, but I could put the extra $400 towards Aperture 3, Magic Mouse, etc. Thanks!

A. For photography work, you want a higher-resolution screen. The old Cinema Display you linked to is 1680x1050 only. The Samsung is 1920x1080 (200,000 more pixels). I would go with the Samsung.

Heck, if you are really serious about doing photography work, why not get a 30-inch monitor that does 2560x1600? The macbook pro can drive one of those (though you will need to buy a miniDisplayPort-to-Dual-link-DVI adapter).

NIKON D3100 VS. NIKON D5000?
Q. so im getting really into photography and i've been taking a class i school that they teach us using mostly film cameras to get us to understand it and stuff
i asked my teacher and my other friend (an aspiring photographer) what are good digital cameras to use for photography, and they both said nikon
i went to the store and was looking at the nikon cameras but i cant decide which model!!
after loads of research im stuck between the D3100 and the D5000..
the D3100 is a bit newer and sightly more expensive than the D5000 but they differ in some features..
im extremely interested in eventually shooting live bands at concerts and stuff so i'd need a fast camera, preferably with live view, that would be good for that type of stuff
i know i'll probably also need a different lens and maybe a flash for that.. but for now i just want the camera lol
it also has to last a while haha like even though im still kind of a beginner, i want a camera that isnt only easy to use when u get started, but professional and good enough to use when u become more advanced in photography
soo.. what do u think?

thankss! :) x

Review: I recently updated my DSLR collection to the Nikon D3100 from the Nikon D70. There are good reviews out there that you should check out. However, I would like to share some of my first impressions.

Pro:
-Better image quality and lower noise at high ISO with the D3100
-MUCH MUCH lighter, which will be nice when traveling
-Larger LCD screen
-11 focus points, including 3D focus which tracks the motion of the subject or camera.
-1080p Video
-14 megapixels
-2nd Generation DSLR
-Quiet, quiet, quiet

Cons:
-No bracketing option. Not a huge deal since I only bracket once a year
-Cannot use my old 50mm 1.8 lens. I knew this before purchasing the camera.
-As of 10/1/2010, Camera RAW for the D3100 is not supported in Photoshop or Lightroom. Need to shoot .jpg + RAW or use Nikon Capture NX2 for RAW files. That should be updated soon, so not a big deal.
-Can hear the lens focusing when recording video.
-No depth of field preview.
-Can't use wireless remote

I'm an amateur photographer and this camera meets my needs. I love the fact that it's small and light, with great quality images. If I were a serious photographer and had more money to spare, I would wait and check out the D7000, which appears to have phenomenal specs. I'm happy with my purchase and I highly recommend this camera.
