How to get my screen fit my monitor size?

Q. So I've got a Flatron W2353V LG LCD monitor and I just had to reformat to xp and now I've got black bars all around my screen. Any suggestions?

A. alter the screen resolution to fit the aspect ration of your monitor

How do I know the form factor and monitor type of my desktop?
Q. Form Factor:
Desktop: Standard
Desktop: High Performance
Laptop/Notebook

Monitor Type:
LCD (Thin, Flat Panel)
CRT (Older, Larger type of monitor)
Dual LCD Screens
Dual CRT Screens

Monitor Size

How do I know what all of those are? And how do I measure the monitor size, like diagonal, across, etc?
Those are the options a program I downloaded gave me, so how do I know what I have?

A. First off, you probably have a standard desktop (unless you have a laptop) so choose that. The monitor type is like it says. If it is the newer flat type it is LCD. If it is big and heavy it is CRT. Unless your computer is REALLY old, you probably have an LCD. Dual screens is for...well.. two screens. You probably don't have that. The size is measured diagonally from corner to corner. It will be 16 or 17 inches, possibly higher.
