Laptop screen broke. I can view it on a home monitor screen but not on another laptop screen. Why not?

Q. I purchased a cable that I can plug in to the laptop that has a broken screen, which allows me to see the screen on a home LCD monitor. When I tried to hook the cable to another laptop to view the items on the broken screen it didn't work. Is there any way to view the broken screen on a laptop or does it have to be on a stationary monitor?

A. The other laptop would need a VGA input port, to my knowledge there is no laptop that has a built in video input port of any kind, VGA or otherwise, it's just not something laptops are ever designed to do. There are ways to capture a video signal using tv tuners (and other video capture devices) but the quality would be mediocre, the cost high, and would actually be running one computer through the other (which may make using it very slow) and it wouldn't likely be full screen.

You really only have a couple of options:

1. remove the HD from the broken laptop and put it in the working one (will need drivers. this may not be a good idea if the other laptop is significantly older that the broken one)

2. Replace the broken LCD with a working one (not super cheap but if the laptops near-new it's worth it)

3. if you don't care about portability, just use the home LCD monitor.

Should I get an Widescreen LCD monitor for my computer?
Q. I use my home computer for surfing the Internet and playing games. I don't watch movies on my computer. I see that most of the LCD monitors on the market are wide screens. Is there any reason that I should get a wide screen monitor for my home computer? What are the any advantages to getting a wide screen monitor besides watching movies?
Thanks for your help.

A. I think you should just get a normal screen if you're only using it for internet and playing games. I got myself a widescreen Samsung SyncMaster 940NM, and I only use it for surfing and chatting. It distorts the photos that I'm viewing. I look fatter in my photos and it frustrates me.
